TheSCAN~LINKArmourSystem™hasbeendesignedtoincreasetheprobabilityofdetectionofagroundworkerinthe
vicinityofmobileheavyequipment.TheSCAN~LINKArmourSystem™consistsoftwounits,theAntennaUnit,andthe
DisplayUnit.TheAntennaUnitistypicallymountedonthebackofavehicletodetectthepresenceofgroundworkers
wearinganArmourequippedSafetyVestand/orHardHat.Whenagroundworkerisdetected,theAntennaUnitsends
amessagetotheDisplayUnitmountedinsidethecabwhichthenalertstheoperatorthroughanaudibleandvisual
alarm.TheDisplayUnitdisplaystheoperationalstatusoftheSCAN~LINKArmourSystem™wheneverthevehicle
ignitionison,butonlygivesvisualandaudioalarmsforgroundworkerdetectionwhentheReverseInputLinetothe
AntennaUnitortheDisplayUnitisPositiveActive.TheSCAN~LINKRapidPair™softwareisusedtoconfigurethe
operatingparametersoftheSCAN~LINKArmourSystem™,includingwhichReverseInputLinetousetoenablevisual
andaudioalarms.
AntennaUnit
TheAntennaUnittransmitsandreceivesdigitalRFIDsignalsoverthe902MHz‐928MHzfrequencybandtosearchfor
Armoursafetyapparelwithinitsdetectionrange.TheAntennaUnitprocessesinformationfromtherespondingtagsto
identifyifanygenuineArmourvestsand/orsafetyhatsareintherange.IfArmoursafetyapparelisdetected,the
AntennaUnittransmitsaseparatesignalinthe2.4GHzfrequencybandtotheDisplayUnittoactivateanaudibleand
visualwarning.
TheAntennaUnitrequirespowerfromthevehicle’spowersource.ItalsorequiresapositiveactivationoftheReverse
InputLineifthisinputisconfiguredtobeusedtoactivatetheAntennaUnitonlyonreversevehicleoperation.Allother
functionsoftheantennaareperformedoverthe2.4GHzradiolink.ThewiresintotheAntennaunitareroutedwitha
splash‐proofconnectortoprotectthedeviceagainstwaterleakage.AmoistureventisincorporatedintheAntennaUnit
casesothatmoistureinsidethecasecanventtotheoutside.

OperatorDisplayUnit
TheOperatorDisplayunitseenbelowistobeinstalledinsidethevehiclecabininthevicinityoftheoperator,butno
closerthan20cm,sothatitcanbeclearlyseenandheard.TheOperatorDisplayreceivessignalsfromtheantennawhen
genuineArmoursafetyapparelisdetectedintherangeoftheAntennaUnit.
TheDisplayUnitisinperiodiccontactwiththeAntennaUnittoensurethecommunicationlinkandtagdetection
throughputbetweentheantennaelementandthedisplayisfunctioningproperlyandreportingnoerrors.Ifthewireless
connectionbetweenthedisplayandtheantennaiscompromised,thepowerLEDwillblinkamberandanoptional
audiblesound(ifenabledthroughtheSCAN~LINKRapidPair™software)willbegenerated.SCAN~LINK™apparelwillnot
bedetectedifthepowerLEDisamber.

betweentheAntennaUnitandtheSCAN~LINKArmourSystem™safetyappareldecreases.Theonsetofdetection
typicallybeginsat6meters,however,consistentdetectionat6meterscannotbeguaranteed.

Thisdevicecomplieswithpart15oftheFCCRules.Operationissubjecttothefollowingtwoconditions:(1)Thisdevice
maynotcauseharmfulinterference,and(2)thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,includinginterference
thatmaycauseundesiredoperation.
ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassAdigitaldevice,pursuanttopart15of
theFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstharmfulinterferencewhenthe
equipmentisoperatedinacommercialenvironment.Thisequipmentgenerates,uses,andcanradiateradiofrequency
energyand,ifnotinstalledandusedinaccordancewiththeinstallationmanual,maycauseharmfulinterferenceto
radiocommunications.Operationofthisequipmentinaresidentialareaislikelytocauseharmfulinterferenceinwhich
casetheuserwillberequiredtocorrecttheinterferenceathis/herownexpense.
TocomplywithFCC/ICRFexposurelimitsforgeneralpopulation/uncontrolledexposure,theSCAN~LINK™Antenna
UnitandtheOperatorDisplayUnitmustbeinstalledtoprovideaseparationdistanceofatleast21cm(8.5inches)from
allpersonsandmustnotbeco‐locatedoroperatinginconjunctionwithanyotherantennaortransmitter.
