USING THE SPORTSYNC RADIO
This second-generation SportSync Radio is an AM/FM digital portable
radio with a very special feature - Audio Time Delay. This lets you watch
sports events on TV with the sound down and listen to the radio
broadcast on your SportSync synchronized with what you see on TV.
Many people prefer listening to the local radio announcers broadcast the
action of their favorite pro or college sport, especially when national TV
announcers are covering a game. For years radio announcers told their
listeners who were watching at home, work, a restaurant or pub that they
should turn the sound down on their TV and turn up their radio. With the
advent of the seven-second “bad language” delay and with the natural
delays built in to satellite and cable TV that no longer was possible as it
used to be in years past with over-the-air TV broadcasts. Unlike TV,
radio broadcasts are generally all in “real-time” as so many people bring
radios to sports events and also there’s no need for cable and satellite
uplinks and delays. Therefore, now, it’s not possible to simply turn the
TV sound down and the radio sound up because the radio broadcast
audio will be well ahead of what you’re watching on TV.
With SportSync you can delay the radio audio to match what you’re
seeing on TV and once again listen to the informative and colorful local
radio play-by-play broadcasts of auto racing, Pro and College baseball,
football, basketball, soccer, hockey and more.
Limitations: Occasionally, particularly with certain satellite broadcasts in
HD, the delay will be longer than 16 seconds. This may vary from game
to game. Also, occasionally, the radio broadcasts will be delayed longer
than the TV broadcast. This is very unusual and it also might vary from
game to game but in this case you can sync the TV and radio audio by
using a DVR box to delay the TV signal slightly. Scanner Master is not
responsible for the delay lengths imposed by broadcasters.
Basic Instructions
INSTALL BATTERIES - Insert four fresh AA batteries into the battery
compartment on the back of the radio. Be sure to insert them as shown
by the picture next to the compartment. You may use regular alkaline or
re-chargeable batteries which must be re-charged outside of the radio.
TURN OFF AUDIO DELAY - Slide the Audio Delay Slider (15) all the
way to the left. This turns off audio delay and allows standard radio
operation.
TURN ON THE RADIO - Turn on the radio with On/Off button (1).
SELECT AM OR FM - You may select either the AM or FM band as
desired by the Bands button (11).
ADJUST VOLUME – Slide the Volume Control (17) up or down.
TUNE IN A STATION - Tune the radio to the station desired with the
Up/Down tuning button (13/14):
a. Short-press to move one frequency step
b. Press for two seconds and release to auto-tune to the next radio
station in your area
c. Keep-pressing to continue tuning up or down and release the up or
down button to stop
The exclusive SportSync feature lets you synchronize the sound
from the radio with televised sports events. To understand this
feature, be sure to read the section below.

SportSync Audio Delay Operation
It is easy for you to match the radio play-by-play call with what you’re
watching on TV. First tune in a radio station that’s broadcasting the
game. Often a team has a network of stations, so you may have a choice
of several. Sports broadcasts may be on AM or FM depending on the
team and city. Radio networks broadcast games on a variety of station
throughout suburban and rural areas. Check your team web site for a list
of stations.
Once you have the game on the radio, turn on your TV. Almost always
the action on the TV will run a few to many seconds behind real time and
what you are hearing on the radio. Now, to make the radio sound match
the TV picture, all you have to do is move the audio Delay Slider (15) to
the right place. This control delays the radio sound by up to 16 seconds.
The number of seconds is shown just above the slider and on the radio
display.
Generally you need to watch a play or two to match up the audio just
right. In a football or basketball game you might hear a referee’s whistle
on both the TV and radio which will help you zero the radio right into the
TV. In baseball you may hear on the radio, “The windup and the pitch…”
and you can adjust the slider to exactly match that moment to what
you’re seeing on the TV. When you’ve found the right delay setting then
you can turn the sound down on your TV and you’re set to enjoy the
game!
Note that you probably won’t have to make any more adjustments during
that game. For the next game you watch the delay could be different,
but you should be able to find the correct setting quickly. The 16 seconds
of delay is almost always enough. But it is possible that technical factors
affecting some game broadcasts can exceed this capability.
Instant Replay
Within its limits you can also use the SportSync Radio to create an
Instant Replay of a great play or simply to repeat a few seconds of any
audio you missed. Quickly move the delay slider all the way to the right
to get the maximum delay of replay. (Note that if you already have the
delay slider set at six seconds, for example, you’ll hear only ten seconds
of replay by moving the slider all the way to the right as soon as the
play/radio call ends.)
TURN ON BEEPS – When you are not using the delay feature it is a
good idea to set the Delay Slider to zero, otherwise you may find it
confusing when you try to tune the radio after first turning it on. If the
slider is not at zero when you turn on the radio then the radio beeps for
the same number of seconds for which the radio slider is set as the delay
memory fills. If the slider is set to eight seconds for example (and the
display will also indicate 8 in this case), then the radio will beep eight
times as it fills with eight seconds of radio audio before beginning to play
out the delayed audio through the radio speakers.

STATION MEMORY – This radio can store up to 20 stations in each
band, AM and FM. To store stations: Set the Delay Slider to zero, tune to
your desired station, press MEMORY (12) once, use MEMORY +/- (16)
to select the memory slot and press MEMORY (12) again to store the
station. Now you can listen to your favorites by simply pressing
MEMORY +/- (16) while the Delay Slider is set to zero. If the slider is not
set to zero when you select or tune through stations the delay replay of
previous stations may give you the impression that there is a problem.
BROWSING MEMORIZED STATIONS – Set the Delay Slider to zero.
Short press SCAN (10), and the radio will automatically play each stored
program for six seconds. Short press SCAN (10) again and the radio will
stay at the currently stored station.
AUTO-MEMORIZE STATIONS – Set the Delay Slider to zero. Long-
press SCAN (10), the radio will automatically scan and store the first 20
programs it finds. The radio might miss a station if the signal is not
strong enough. Should this occur you can manually tune and place the
station in memory.
SET TIME – When the radio is off, press BANDS button (11), the hour
digit will flash, use the DOWN/UP buttons (13/14) to change the value.
Press BANDS (11) again to switch to minute/year/month/date.
SET ALARM (AUTO SWITCH ON) – When the radio is off, press the
MEMORY/ALARM button (12), the alarm clock icon will appear on the
left top corner and the alarm time will be displayed. While the alarm clock
icon is being shown, press the BANDS button and set the alarm time.
While the alarm clock icon is present on the display, the radio will be
switched on at the preset-alarm time. To turn off the alarm clock icon,
simply press the MEMORY/ALARM button (12) when the radio is off.
SLEEP FUNCTION (AUTO SWITCH OFF) – When the radio is off, press
and hold the POWER On/Off button (1) until the sleep icon appears on
the right top corner on the display, the sleep time 90 min will be shown;
press POWER again to change the period of time from 90, 80, 70
min ……etc., until the desired time is reached and wait three seconds to
exit the sleep time settings. The Radio will switch off automatically after
the set period of time.
RESET – If the radio malfunctions, you may try to reset it by using a
narrow object to press the reset button (2).
TONE – Use this switch (6) to slightly adjust the general audio tone, high
or low.
LOCK – Use this switch (9) to lock selected radio controls so that
stations cannot be accidentally tuned for example.
DESKTOP STAND – Pull out the small metal bracket from the bottom of
the radio to stabilize it when upright on a desk or open the large plastic
stand on the back of the radio to position SportSync at an approximate
45 degree angle on your desk.
AUXILIARY AUDIO INPUT FOR AUDIO DELAY – You can input an
external audio source into the SportSync using the Aux input jack (4).
Set the switch (5) to Aux In and you will note that the radio will display
Aux In when it is turned on. You can then delay the external audio using
the Delay Slider.
Batteries (Not included)
a. Only use new batteries of the same brand.
b. If you do not use the radio for a long time, take out the batteries to
avoid possible leakage that may cause damage.
AC Adapter (Sold separately)
It is possible to use an AC adapter connected at this jack (8) to power
SportSync from an approved external power source. Check our web site
at www.sportsyncradio.com or call 1-800-722-6701 for further details on
available adapters.
Earphones (Not included)
Connect earphones into the earphone jack (7) on the left side of the
radio. Take care not to set the volume too high to protect your ears. Do
not insert earphone buds deep into your ear.
Home Theatre Cable (Sold separately)
SportSync can produce excellent sound when played through a home
audio system or computer speakers. First, tune in the desired station
and locate the SportSync radio for the best reception. Set the radio to a
moderate volume. Plug one end of the optional connection cable (single
3.5mm plug) into the radio's earphone jack (7), and the two RCA plugs at
the other end to your audio system. Typically this will be labeled as the
auxiliary input. Follow the instructions of your amplifier manual to select
that input to play the SportSync audio through your speakers.
Please note - Adjust the volume with your amplifier controls and avoid
changing the SportSync volume control. If turned up too high the
SportSync, like other audio devices, may produce distortion. Also,
Sportsync audio is mono, not stereo but can be played through a stereo
system.
Radio Reception
AM reception can be distorted at times by fluorescent lighting, power
lines, close proximity to a computer or other electronic device or by
nearby transmitters. Moving the radio (as AM signals are directional) and
moving it closer to a window may improve reception. For the best FM
reception adjust the telescoping antenna if necessary. You can also plug
in an external antenna (5) but signal improvement is not guaranteed.

Scanner Master warrants this Product in the U.S. against defects in
material or workmanship for a period of 90 days, subject to the terms
and conditions posted on the Sportsyncradio.com web site. This
warranty does not cover cosmetic damage or damage due to acts of God,
accident, misuse, negligence, or modification, nor to misuse or improper
operation or connection to an improper voltage supply or any other
improper voltage applied. Repair or replacement as provided under this
warranty is the exclusive remedy of the consumer. Scanner Master shall
not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages for breach of
any express or implied warranty on this product. Except to the extent
prohibited by law, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a
particular purpose of this product is limited to the duration of this
warranty, with exceptions that may apply under individual state law. A
copy of a receipt for the radio is required for warranty service. Warning:
Modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible
for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
