GAS DETECTOR FOR DOMESTIC INSTALLATION
SE230K-SE233K
Made
in
Italy
This document refers to gas detectors: SE230K-SE233K series marked Tecnocontrol.
LIMINOUS AND ACOUSTIC SIGNALISATIONS
LIGHTING DELAYS
The catalytic sensor in the SE230K/SE233K, need to be heated for
about one minute of working in a correct way and for that reason, when
the detector is lighted on the green led it will lighten to indicate that
the sensor is in the heating phase. During this time, all the detection
functions will be inhibited.

If, after about five minutes after turning on the detector, all three LEDs
blink, this indicates a sensor problem. In this case the sensor must be
replaced.
OPERATING PROBLEMS
These gas detectors are provided, on the front panel, by three lumi-
nous signalisations:
-GREEN LED (ON): indicates that the instruments is powered.
-YELLOW LED (FAULT): Indicates that the gas sensor is damaged.
-RED LED (ALARM): Indicates that the gas concentration
measured in the air exceeds the alarm threshold.
In case of damage of the sensor, the gas detector is able to indicate the
wrong function, lightning the yellow led and activating a sound alarm
with two seconds’ of intermittence. In case of alarm the detector light-
ning the red led and after 20 seconds the buzzer emits a sound alarm
and the relay activates.
Attention: the installation and the out of service of the instrument
must be done by skilled personnel only. The installation of gas and
the possible stopping device must be in according to the national and
in force prescriptions law.
The instrument has to be installed:
- the detectors SE230KM and SE233KM for methane at a maxi-
mum distance of 30 cm from the ceiling; the detectors SE230KG and
SE233KG for LPG at a maximum distance of 30 cm from the floor.
- they should be fixed at a distance comprises from 1 meter and 4
meters by the gas device (kitchen, boiler room, etc..).
- possible in every room in which there is a gas device and in resi-
dences with more than one floor, at least one detector for each floor.
The instrument does not have to be installed:
- directly over the sink or on the gas device.
- in small rooms where alcohol can be utilised, ammonia and spray
bottles of gas or other substances with flying solvents.
- in low ventilated environments.
- near to walls or hindrance that can stop the gas flow to the detector,
or near to exhausters or fans that can divert the air flow.
- in environment in which the temperature can arrive over 40°C or
under –10°C
-in the environment with a lot of humidity or vapours.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
POWER SUPPLY
Attention: The electrical connection has to be carried out by spe-
cialized technical staff. The detectors are power supplied 230Vac
50/60Hz through connecting terminal one and two, or 12Vdc by con-
necting terminal 3 (+) and 4 (-) (Fig.2). It has to be provided with an
device, to be disowned from the detector and the feeding net, with min-
imun 3 mm contact distance in accordance wit has written in the “Euro-
pean Standard EN 60335-1”.

or
The SE230K and SE233K are gas detectors for methane and LPG that
advices with an optical and acoustic signal the presence of gas in the
environment.
The SE230K/SE233K detectors are calibrated to notice existent gas
in the environment up to 10% less from the explosion concentration
L.E.L. (Low Explosion Limit), this threshold can change following the
environmental conditions but it will not be over passed, during the first
4 years of use of the 15% L.E.L., after that period the instrument have
to be put out of order or resend to Tecnocontrol S.r.l. for a complete
substitution of the device.
With that aim, the package is provided with a printed label on were is
indicated the correct working period (4 years from installing date); this
printed label have to be filled from the installer on the frontal panel of
the detector during the installation.

Methane Detector LPG Detector
The instrument has to be installed:
- the detectors SE230KM and SE233KM for methane at a maximum
Jumper position for manualrearmed E.V. normally opened.
Jumper position for manualrearmed E.V. normally closed.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OUTPUT
The central unit it’s provided with an relay in exit with free contacts
without tension,contact range 8A 250Vac/ 30Vdc.
CONNECTION FOR VALVE AND REMOTE
The detector furthermore by connecting terminal (5-6) active in shut
down for an remote sensor:
For Methane: cod. SE296KM or SE230KM/SE233KM.
For LPG: cod. SE296KG or SE230KG/SE233KG.
Configuration SE230K/SE233K + SE230K/SE233K have IMQ certifi-
cation.
Configurations that includes SE296K do not have IMQ certification.
If the connecting terminals (5-6) are not used, the have to be left dis-
connected. We remind that the valve should be installed on the gas
pipes outside the room under control, since protection is use less if a
gas leak occurs at the beginning of the gas pipe.
SE230K
ATTENTION: If during operation takes place a momentary absence of power supply,
the N.C solenoid valve, closes automatically and you will need to reset it after a voltage
recovery.
In this case of alarms the coil’s relay is
maintained de-energized constantly.
In case of alarm, the contacts 8 and 9
(Fig. 3 and Fig. 4) will be closed up to
end of the alarm.

The use of different systems from the calibration gas sample cylinder,
makes it impossible to verify the proper functioning of the sensor.
Even when you want to recreate the actual conditions of dangerfor
which protection the gas sensor is installed, this is inapplicable.
As an example, the supply of gas from the normal home kitchenequip-
ment.
Our detectors are calibrated at 10% LEL (Lower Explosive Limit).
The explanation is simple: lets suppose to have a kitchen measuring 3
meters wide by 4 meters in length, and with height of 3 meters.
- The volume of the kitchen is equivalent to 4 x 3 x 3 that is 36 m3,equal
to 36,000 Lt.
When 4,4% of the volume of the kitchen, is filled of natural gas, in the
room a dangerous mixture is created.
- This 4,4% is called L.E.L (Lower Explosive Limit).
- In our case a 4,4% of 36.000Lt correspond to 1584Lt. (L.E.L.).
- Our detectors, according to the IMQ approvals operate at 10% of
the LEL, then 10% of the value of 1584Lt, that in this case is 158,4LT,
THEREFORE ONE THENTH OF THE LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT
(L.E.L.).
Taking into consideration the fact that the house cooker has a gas noz-
zle of a few tenths of a millimetre and that the gas pressure is of a few
millibars, the gas flow would allow the delivery of 158,4 litres of gas
(sufficient to make the sensor react) only after hours.
Even with broader gas supply sources, the peculiar and strong smell
of natural gas, makes impossible the human presence and it make evi-
dent the serious danger situation even when the natural gas saturation
is still too little to allow the explosion.
LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT (L.E.L)
We recommend to contact the installer at least once a year for a
general inspection.
IMPORTANT: do not use pure gas, such as a lighter directly on
the sensor since the sensor could be damaged.
PERIODICAL TESTING
Connection for normally opened E.V. (230Vac), manual rearmed (relay nor-
mally deactivated) or by a second detector (SE230K).
Connection for normally closed E.V. (230Vac), manual rearmed (relay normally
activated) or by asecond detector (SE233K).
Connection for normally closed E.V. (12Vdc), manual rearmed (relay normally
activated) or by asecond detector (SE233K).

In this case the coil’s relay is main-
tained energized constantly to ensure
intrinsic safety relay operation.
In case of alarm, the contacts 7 and 8
(Fig. 5 and Fig. 6) will remain closed
until the end of the alarm.

The instrument has to be installed:
- the detectors SE230KM and SE233KM for methane at a maximum
After the installation it is possible to check the correct use ofthe instru-
ment by pushing for at least 2 seconds the TEST button on the board.
Using this method all the leds will be lighted, also the acustic alarm will
be active, and the exit relay for a period of five seconds.
The E.V. if connected, has to be manual rearmed.
OPERATING CONTROLS
For the clining of the instrument utilize a cloth to take away the dust
from the covering. Don’t try to open or disassemble the detector, it
could cause an electric shock and damege the product.
Note that the sensor employed has a good resistance towards prod-
ucts such as sprays, detergents, alcohol, glues andpaints.
However, these products could contain substances which, if in great
quantity, could interfere with the sensor and cause false alarms.
We recommend to ventilate the room where products like these can
be used.
Note that the detector is not able to detect gas leaking outside the
room where it is installed, neither inside walls or under the floor.
To make gas (methane and LPG) nose identifiable, gas is added with
a particularly disturbing smelling substance. Small gas quantities com-
ing out from left open cookers for some minutes do not cause the gas
detector alarm signalling even if it is clearly nose perceptible; in fact
the quantity of gas presents in the environment can be under the alarm
threshold.
Please remember that the gas detector cannot work withoutpower
supply.
WARNING
1) extinguish all naked flames.
2) turn off the gas supply at the gas emergency control and/or, with a
LPG supply, the storage tank.
3) do not switch on or off any electrical lights. Do not activate any
electrically powered devices.
4) Open both doors and windows to increase room ventilationIf the
alarm stops, it is necessary to identify the alarm reason and act ac-
cordingly.
If the alarm condition continues and the cause of the leak is not appar-
ent and/or cannot be corrected, vacate the premises and immediately
notify the gas emergency service.
WARNING!
