1.4 General safety instructions
WARNING
Ignoring the general safety guidelines
Personal injury / damage to plants or systems

The operating and maintenance instructions contain important information on
using the system. All users must have read and understood the operating and
maintenance instructions and keep them for later reference.
►
These operating and maintenance instructions are specific to the items included
in delivery from Schmalz. They do not take into account any modifications to the
system made by the customer, which are strictly prohibited.
►
The system may only be connected and operations started once the operating
and maintenance instructions have been read and understood.
►
Use only the connections, mounting holes and attachment materials that have
been provided.
►
Carry out mounting or removal only when the device is in an idle, depressurized
state.
►
Only qualified specialist personnel and mechanics may perform the installation,
maintenance and repair work. Qualified specialist personnel are persons who
have received technical training and have the knowledge and experience –
including knowledge of applicable regulations –necessary to enable them to
recognize possible dangers and implement the appropriate safety measures
while performing tasks.
►
General safety regulations, European standards and VDE guidelines must be
observed and complied with.
►
Personnel and animals are not permitted to sit or stand in the danger zone
area.
►
You are responsible for third parties in the working area of the system. In view
of this, responsibilities for the various tasks to be carried out on the system
must be clearly specified and adhered to.
►
Protect the components from damage of any kind.
All applicable laws and regulations must be adhered to at all times.
When using the system, observe the statutory regulations, safety regulations,
standards and guidelines applicable at the location of use.
Check with the competent authorities for more information.
The safety instructions in these operating and maintenance instructions do not
replace these laws and regulations, but are to be regarded as a supplement to
them.

1.5 Intended Use
The Schmalz Blower Box SBB is for holding the following Schmalz vacuum generators:
Vacuum pump EVE-TR 25, 40, 50
Vacuum blowers of the series SB; M, L and V models.
The Schmalz Blower Box SBB reduces the sound pressure level of the vacuum generator during
operation and protects it from dirt and damage by external influences.
Example vacuum pump EVE-TR 40: Reduction to 65 dB(A) with a generated vacuum of 620 mbar.
The above-mentioned vacuum pumps as well as the Schmalz Blower SB-M and SB-L blower types
are designed for installation by the customer (see instructions in section 5). The blowers of the
Schmalz Blower SB-V blower type are installed in the Schmalz Blower Box ex works (due to the
connection of the external fan required).
1.6 Requirements and Instructions for Installation, Maintenance and
Operating Staff
The Schmalz Blower Box SBB should only be installed and maintained by qualified specialist
personnel, mechanics, and electricians. Work on electrical equipment must be carried out by qualified
electrical specialists only.
A qualified employee is defined as an employee who has received technical training and has the
knowledge and experience –including knowledge of corresponding regulations –necessary to enable
him or her to recognize possible dangers and implement the appropriate safety measures while
performing tasks. Qualified personnel must observe the pertinent industry-specific rules and
regulations.
The user’s company must ensure by means of internal measures that all
persons commissioned with the task of setting up, starting up, operating,
maintaining and repairing the device at the company of the user have read
and understood the operating instructions.
The operating and maintenance instructions must be accessible for
personnel at all times.
The operator must ensure that the responsibilities for the tasks to be carried out on the Schmalz
Blower Box must be clearly specified and observed.

1.7 Installation Location/Workplace Requirements

Product must not be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Ensure that:
there must be at least 20 cm of free space between the device and adjacent walls, so that
the air flow for cooling is not restricted
the hot air flowing out of the exhaust air outlets can escape freely
the ambient temperature must lie within a range of +0 °C to +40 °C
the components are installed or stored in a dry state and must be protected from splashing
or dripping water
no small parts can enter the exhaust air or air intake openings
the silencer box for maintenance and repair work on the vacuum generator remains easily
accessible (accessibility to the fastening screws for the hood, and working space for
removing the hood).
The Schmalz Blower Box SBB must only be set up horizontally. Consoles for attaching the Schmalz
Blower Box horizontally to e.g. crane columns are available as accessories.
1.8 Definition of the Danger Zone
The danger zone is the area in the vicinity of working equipment which
poses a hazard to the safety of persons located within it.
The danger zone of the Schmalz Blower Box (see red hatched area) is in
the immediate vicinity of the box.

1.9 Emissions
The vacuum generator housed in the silencer box emits noise and hot exhaust air.
See safety instructions in the operating instructions for the vacuum generator.
CAUTION
Hot air flows from the outlet side of the blower, heating up the blower and
surrounding components.
This presents a burn hazard!
►
Keep your distance from the blower!
►
Observe a cooling time of 60 minutes before working on the blower.
►
Wear protective gloves.
CAUTION
Risk of eye injury
All vacuum generators generate an exhaust air flow. Depending on the purity of
the ambient air, this exhaust air can contain particles, which escape from the
exhaust air outlet at high speed, potentially injuring people in the face and eye
area.
►
Do not look into the exhaust air flow.
►
Wear protective glasses.
1.10Personal Protective Equipment
When operating the Schmalz Blower Box always wear suitable protective equipment:
1. Safety shoes (in accordance with EN 20345 safety class S1 or better)
2. Sturdy work gloves (in accordance with EN 388 safety category 2133 or better)
3. Protective glasses (in accordance with EN 166)
4. Other protective equipment as required by the situation or prescribed by national regulations.

2.2 Type plate
The device type, device number and year of manufacture are specified on
the type plate. This information is important for identifying the device. It must
always be specified when ordering replacement parts, making warranty
claims or other inquiries about the device.
The type plate is firmly attached to the exterior of the Schmalz Blower Box.

For the vacuum pump EVE-TR 40 (50Hz) the silencer box enables a reduction in the noise emissions
to 65 dB(A). The maximum noise emissions can vary depending on the vacuum generator and the
frequency.

4 Delivery, Packaging and Transport
4.1 Delivery
Refer to the order confirmation for specific details about what is included in delivery. The weights and
dimensions will be listed in the delivery notes.
Check the entire delivery against the supplied delivery notes to make sure nothing is missing.
Following delivery of the shipment, damage caused by defective packaging or in transit must be
reported immediately to the carrier and J. Schmalz GmbH.
The operating and maintenance instructions are an integral part of the
Schmalz Blower Box and must accompany the device whenever it moves to
a new location.
4.2 Packaging
Depending on the scope of the shipment, the Schmalz Blower Box is transported either in a cardboard
box or wooden crate, or on a pallet.
The packaging material must be disposed of in accordance with country-
specific laws and guidelines. Labeled transport aids and safety mechanisms
must be removed.
4.3 Transport with mounted vacuum generator
WARNING
Risk of injury from falling objects.
►
Ensure that the vacuum generator is securely connected to the main body
(item 1) before lifting.
1. Remove the cover (item 2) of the SBB.
2. Lift the main body and vacuum generator together
using a pump ring (vacuum pump) or a suitable sling
(blower).

WARNING
Risk of injury due to improper transportation and unloading.
►
Unloading and transport must only be carried out by trained forklift truck drivers
who have also completed all the necessary safety training.
►
Only use hoists and slings that have the necessary specifications.
►
Secure transport materials in accordance with country-specific regulations
(BAG guidelines in Germany).
►
Wear personal protective clothing.

Load suspension outside the center of gravity

5 Installation
Please read section 1.6 (Requirements & instructions for installation,
maintenance and operating staff) before starting installation.
5.1 Mounting with vacuum pump
Tools required:
Allen key, size 5
Wrench in size 10, 25, 32, 36
Alternatively pipe wrench (for size 32 and size 36)

1. Lift and position the vacuum pump
into the Blower Box using a lifting
aid Observe the alignment.
2. Press the vacuum pump into the
insulating foam until it can be
screwed in.
3. Fasten vacuum pump with the 4
hex bolts (size M6) and safety
washers provided.
Excessive tightening impairs the vibration
dampers.

vacuum pump with sealing ring.
2. Guide the vacuum hose without
voltage through the opening in the
front side of the base tub.
3. Attach the vacuum hose to the
suction supports with a hose clamp.
4. Mount optional dust filter (see

5.2 Mounting with vacuum blower

Important: If the Schmalz Blower Box is
used, the blower may only be installed in a
horizontal position. The base plate must be
securely connected to the support with 4
screws.

Fit motor sleeve over motor.

1. Fit additional sound absorber with
the large bore hole over the
exhaust air silencer.
2. Ensure that the foam insert
contacts the housing wall of the
sound absorber correctly. If
necessary, adjust with a screw
driver.

1. Position the blower base on the
stud bolts.
2. Attach with washers and locking nut
(size M10).
The fan hood of the motor must press
slightly against the sound absorber, so that
only cold air from outside is supplied to the
fan.

Secure additional sound absorbers with 4
hex bolts (size M5) with washers to the
front of the base plate.
The additional sound absorber must press
slightly into the side of the sound absorbing
mat.

the interior from the blower silencer.

1. Attach the flange connection to the

2 hex nuts (size M6) and washers.
2. Fit aluminum corrugated hose over
the connector.
3. Attach hose with clamp.
Ensure that the exhaust air can exit freely
at the end of this hose.

CAUTION
Incorrectly connected operating voltage

Only operate vacuum generator with the operational voltage specified on the
type plate.
Before the start of operations, check that the vacuum generator rotation direction
corresponds with that in the operating instructions provided separately.
Ensure that the Schmalz Blower Box is securely screwed to the supporting surface.
When operating the Schmalz Blower Box with a blower:
Ensure that a cool air flow can be felt in the
area of the fan holes when the blower is
switched on.
Dust filter accessories
Attach dust filter on the suction
connection of the vacuum pump. See the
operating instructions for the dust filter.

6 Operation
6.1 General safety instructions regarding operation
WARNING
Non-observance of the general safety instructions for normal operation
This can result in personal injury or damage to the system.
►
The system must only be operated by trained personnel who have read and
understood the Schmalz Blower Box and pump operating and maintenance
instructions.
6.2 Description of Operation
The Schmalz Blower Box allows the noise emissions caused by the vacuum generator to be reduced
to a minimum. The cover must be properly closed during the operation of the vacuum generator for
this.
Please refer to both the vacuum generator and tube lifter documentation regarding operation.
In order to prevent overheating, clean the dust from the hood surface. Commercial water soluble
cleaning agent should be used for this purpose. Under no circumstances should solvents such as
trichloroethylene, carbon tetrachloride, hydrocarbons or vinegar-based cleaning products be used for
cleaning.
