1 Important information
1.1 Note on Using this Document

These Operating instructions contain important notes and information about the different operating phases of the
product:
• Transport, storage, start of operations and decommissioning
• Safe operation, required maintenance, rectification of any faults
The Operating instructions describe the product at the time of delivery by Schmalz.
1.2 The technical documentation is part of the product
1. For problem-free and safe operation, follow the instructions in the documents.
2. Keep the technical documentation in close proximity to the product. The documentation must be accessible
to personnel at all times.
3. Pass on the technical documentation to subsequent users.

1.3 Warnings in This Document
Warnings warn against hazards that may occur when handling the product. This document contains three levels of
danger that you can recognize by the signal word.
Signal word Meaning
WARNING Indicates a medium-risk hazard which, if not avoided, could result in death or
serious injury.
CAUTION Indicates a low-risk hazard which, if not avoided, could result in minor or
moderate injury.
NOTE Indicates a danger that leads to property damage.

The type plate (1) is permanently attached to the pump and
must always be clearly legible.
It includes the following information:
• Part sales designation/type
• Part number
• Manufacturing date
• Serial number
• Operating voltage
• Amperage
• CE label
• Permitted pressure range

Please specify all the information above when ordering replacement parts, making warranty claims or for any
other inquiries.
2 Fundamental Safety Instructions
2.1 Intended Use
The vacuum pump is built in accordance with the latest standards of technology and is delivered in a safe operat-
ing condition.
The Schmalz vacuum pump is intended to convey, evacuate and compress gases.
Neutral gases in accordance with EN983 are approved as evacuation media. Neutral gases include air, nitrogen and
inert gases (e.g. argon, xenon and neon).
Before conveying a gas, check whether the gas can be conveyed safely in the specific application.
The gas should not contain any solids because they may impair the function of the pump. If this cannot be ensured,
a filter < 100mm with a filter area of a sufficient size must be fitted upstream of the pump.
The product is intended for industrial use.
Intended use includes observing the technical data and the installation and operating instructions in this manual.
2.2 Safety Instructions

4Do not extract harmful media such as dust, oil mists, vapors, aerosols etc.
4Do not extract aggressive gases or media such as acids, acid fumes, bases, biocides, disinfectants
or detergents.
4Do not extract liquids or bulk materials, e.g. granulates.
2.3 Changes to the Vacuum Generator
Schmalz assumes no liability for consequences of modifications over which it has no control:
1. The vacuum generator must be operated only in its original condition as delivered.
2. Use only original spare parts from Schmalz.
3. The vacuum generator may be operated only in perfect condition.
2.4 Personnel Qualification
Unqualified personnel cannot recognize dangers and are therefore exposed to higher risks!
1. Only instruct qualified personnel to perform the tasks described in this manual.
2. The product may only be operated by persons who have undergone appropriate training.
3. Electrical work and installations may only be carried out by qualified electrical specialists.
4. Assembly and maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
The following target groups are addressed in this manual:
• Installers who are trained in handling the product and can operate and install it
• Technically trained service personnel performing the maintenance work
• Technically trained persons who work on electrical equipment

The control is set to two-wire operating mode (DCB-2 24V) by connecting (short-circuiting) the two connections
“Frequency output output signal” (green wire) and “Speed control input signal” (white wire).
For the types DCB 12V-4 and 24V-4, the feed voltage is not designed for operation with pulse width-modulated
voltages (PWM).
Controlling the control voltage with a PWM signal (frequency 6 to 20kHz) is permitted.
5 Checking the Delivery
The scope of delivery can be found in the order confirmation. The weights and dimensions are listed in the delivery
notes.
1. Compare the entire delivery with the supplied delivery notes to make sure nothing is missing.
2. Damage caused by defective packaging or occurring in transit must be reported immediately to the carrier
and J.SchmalzGmbH.
6 Installation
6.1 Installation Instructions

4Prior to installation and before maintenance work, the vacuum generator must be disconnected
from the power supply and secured against unauthorized restart!

For safe installation, the following instructions must be observed:
1. Install the pump only using only the operating parameters and under the conditions described in the “Techni-
cal Data” chapter.
2. Use only the connections, mounting holes and attachment materials that have been provided.
3. Firmly connect and secure pneumatic and electrical line connections to the vacuum generator.
6.2 Mounting
Before mounting the pump at the installation location, bring it to the ambient temperature.
Ensure that the installation location is dry and the pump is protected from rain and any kind of splashing, gushing
or dripping water.
Protect the pump from exposure to dust, vibrations and impacts.
In principle, the mounting position of the pump can be freely selected. To ensure the maximum pump service life,
it should be mounted at the highest point in the system.
4Fasten the pump to the support system using the
two Ø3.3mm throughbores.
6.3 Electrical Connection
Ensure that the pump is connected only by authorized specialists.
Connect the pump only if the electrical supply is free of voltage.
During the electrical connection, observe the applicable norms, guidelines, regulations and technical standards.
1. Compare the supply voltage data with the specifi-
cations on the motor type plate. Take the current
consumption from the type plate.
2. Connect the motor cable. Pay attention to the cor-
rect polarity.
For DC motors:
Red motor cable: + Plus (+24V)

To ensure interference suppression in accordance with EN 55014 - 1 “Emission,” this pump type must be provided
with a brushless DC motor DCB with additional circuitry. The additional circuitry must be installed as close to the
motor as possible.

To ensure the required level of damping, the additional circuitry must be installed as per the following electrical
plan and the components defined within it.
C1: Capacitor
≥ 2200µF / UN = 12V
≥ 1000µF / UN = 24 V
6.4 Pneumatically Connecting the Pump
Connect the pump only to components that are designed for the pneumatic data for the pump (see the chapter
“Technical Data”).
Use only hoses that are designed for the maximum permitted pump operating pressure (see the chapter “Technical
Data”). Use only hoses that have sufficient chemical resistance to the gases to be conveyed.
A marking on the pump head shows the direction of flow.
1. Remove the protective plug.
2. Connect the suction line (1) and, where applicable,
the exhaust air (2) to the plug connectors with an
outside diameter of 6.1mm.

3. Check that the hoses and junctions are connected
correctly and tightly.
4. Check that the installation is sealed tight.

7 Operation
7.1 Safety Instructions
Operate the pumps only using the operating parameters and under the conditions described in the “Technical
Data” chapter.
The pump is a built-in device. Prior to starting up the pump, you must ensure that the machine or plant in which
the pump is installed meets the applicable regulations.
CAUTION
The drive heats up

4Do not touch the pump drive.
4Avoid contact with flammable materials.
Excess pressures and their associated hazards can be avoided by using a bypass line with a pressure-limiting valve
between the pressure and suction side of the pump. Additional information is available from the Schmalz specialist
consultants (for their phone numbers, see the first page).
When the pump is not in operation, establish the normal atmospheric pressure in the lines.
For pumps with thermal switches or electronic overload protection:
WARNING
If pump operation is interrupted due to the thermal switch or electronics, the motor starts
automatically after cooling down.

4Ensure that no hazardous situations can arise from this feature.
Regularly check the pump for external damage or leakages.
7.2 Switching the Pump On and Off
The pump motor speed and its conveying power can be set and partially controlled. For details, see the“Technical
Data” chapter.
Cyclic Duration Factor/Pulse Operation
Schmalz pumps are designed for continuous operation. Short start/stop cycles may change the service life of the
brush motors.
If pulse operation is used in the application, contact your Schmalz specialist consultant (for their phone number,
see the first page).
Switching On the Pump
To ensure that the pump always starts up, make sure that the counterpressure or vacuum is significantly reduced
prior to startup. The same applies for operation after a brief interruption of power.
For additional information in this regard, contact your Schmalz specialist consultant.
Switching Off the Pump
Establish the normal atmospheric pressure in the lines (pneumatically release the pump).

4If necessary, clean the exterior of the pump using a dry cleaning cloth. Do not use solvents during cleaning
work because they may affect plastic parts.
9 Warranty
IMPORTANT!
A warranty claim can only be accepted by Schmalz if the pump has been installed and used in accordance with its
corresponding operating instructions. In the case of inappropriate handling or use of force, any warranty and lia-
bility claims shall be void.
Damage and defects resulting from inadequate maintenance and cleaning, improper use, repair or attempted re-
pair by unauthorized persons, as well as damage and defects resulting from alterations or modifications to the
pump and from replaced parts or materials that do not conform to the original specification are excluded from the
warranty.

If you cannot identify any of the listed causes, send the pump to the Schmalz customer service (see the first page
for the address).

3. Send the pump to Schmalz together with the completed declaration of decontamination ((> See ch. Declara-
tion of Decontamination,Page 14)) and the specification of the conveyed medium.
11 Disposing of the Product
Recover the disassembled parts for recycling or reuse (provided no agreement on return or disposal has been
made).
1. Dispose of the product properly after replacement or decommissioning.
2. Observe the country-specific guidelines and legal obligations for waste prevention and disposal.

12 EC Conformity
Within the meaning of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the pumps are partly completed machinery and are
therefore not considered to be ready for use. The underlying requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC as per Appendix
I (“General Principles”) are applied and complied with.
EC Declaration of Incorporation
The manufacturer Schmalz confirms that the product vacuum pump EVE-TR described in these operating instruc-
tions fulfills the following applicable EC directives:

The product specified is solely intended for installation indoors in a complete system. Startup is prohibited until the
end product has been declared to comply with the Directive 2006/42/EC.
The manufacturer commits to provide special documentation of the partly completed machinery to national au-
thorities in electronic form if requested. The special technical documentation belong to the machine as per Annex
VII Part B has been created.

is a prerequisite for Schmalz to repair the pump.
