05 1. Preparation.
1.1 Delivery
On receiving the product, please check it for completeness, lack of faults
and any transport damage. Inspect the goods in the presence of your
forwarder. Should transport damage have occurred, please arrange for
an inventory (determination of the faults) to be made in the presence of
the forwarder. Please send a complaint in writing to the specialist dealer
responsible.
1.2 Safety measures prior to use
The correct use of the product requires a detailed and careful instruction
of the user or the accompanying person. We ask you to read through the
Instructions for use carefully prior to initial commissioning of the product,
and to observe them. It is possible that product parts that get in contact
with the skin may heat up in the sun. Cover these areas or protect the de-
vice from direct sunlight.
1.3 Safe disposal
In order to preserve and protect the environment, to prevent environmental
pollution and to improve the recycling of raw materials, please note the
disposal instructions in points 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
1.3.1 Packaging
The packaging of the product should be kept for any future transport that
might be required. Should you have to return the product for repairs or in
case of a guarantee claim, please if possible use the original box so that
the product is optimally packaged. Otherwise, separate the packaging
materials for recycling according to their classification.
Do not leave packaging materials unattended, as they are a possible source of
danger.
1.3.2 Product
Attheendoftheproductlifecycle,recycletherawmaterialsusedintheproduct
according to their nature (see material information under point 2.1).
1.4 Where to store the Instructions for use
Please store these Instructions for use carefully and ensure that these Inst-
ructions for use remain with the product in case of re-use. Should you lose
the instructions, you can always download an updated version at www.
schuchmann.de .

2.1 Material information
The base frame is made of steel and aluminium which are non-corroding
and paint-coated. The padded sections are made from 100% polyuretha-
ne and are flame-retardant (according to DIN EN 1021-1+2). The straps are
made from polypropylene or nylon textiles. Wooden parts consist of birch
plywood, maple or wood veneer painted with polyurethane.
2.2 Handling / transport
The therapy chair is not intended for carrying people. Should you have to
carry the equipment due to obstacles, ensure that all moving parts are
tightened. Then position yourself next to the therapy chair, grip it at the
front and rear under the seat unit and carry it to the required location. If
your therapy chair is equipped with double castors, you can push it. To
transport the therapy chair, reduce all adjustments to their most compact
size (fold up footrest, set lowest seat height etc.).
Tighten all moving parts prior to carrying!
The user must not be in the therapy chair while it is being transported!
2.3 Application areas, use according to the intended purpose
The activity chair. therapy chair is a medical product of risk class 1 and is
designed for use at home, in nurseries and at school. It can be used for all
ages from early childhood to teenage years. Individually adjustable seat
dimensions and supporting pelotte pads allow a stable and upright sitting
position. Any other use or use over and above this purpose shall be consi-
dered not in accordance with the intended purpose.
2.3.1 Indication
The activity chair. therapy chair is designed for:
• Children with movement stereotypes (e.g. rocking), who can give in to
their urge to move and their excitement also when sitting down
• Children with dystonic forms of cerebral paresis who are unable to cont-
rol involuntary movement patterns.
• Children who cannot move much / children suering from hypotonia,
whose motion impulses can be reinforced by the chair.

2.3.2 Contraindications
In general, the indication should be accompanied by a doctor/ortho-
paedist. It should therefore be clarified prior to procurement whether
contraindications exist for the patient. In general, any type of pain
represents a contraindication.
2.4 Use not in accordance with the intended purpose / warning guide-
lines
• Make sure that the therapy chair is used by one user only.
• Only use the therapy chair on an even and solid surface.
• Do not use the therapy chair to transport people.
• In order to guarantee safe lifting when transporting the therapy chair,
stand at the side of the therapy chair and grasp
the front and back of the seat surface. Here all movable parts should be
tightened.
• Never leave the user seated in the therapy chair without supervision.
• Correct usage of the therapy chair requires precise and careful training
of the accompanying person.
• The max. load (see Point 6) may not be exceeded.
• Do not use the therapy chair if it has defective, worn or missing parts.
• For reasons of fire safety, the therapy chair may not be
placed close to an open fire or any other strong source of heat such as
electric or gas heaters.
• Use only accessories and spare parts made by Schuchmann,
otherwise you will compromise the safety of the user.
• Only use the therapy chair if all components have been correctly
mounted and adjusted.
• Please ensure that none of the user's extremities are in the respective
area when making adjustments
of any kind to minimise the risk of injury.
• Please read out the Instructions for use for users suering from a visual
or reading impairment, so that they can use the therapy chair safely.

2.7 Product overview
The Fig. below is intended to show you the designation of the most
important components as well as the terms which you will find in these
Instructions for use.

Settings and adjustments to the product or accessories may only be made
by people who have been given the necessary instructions by a medical
product advisor. Please ensure that none of the user's extremities are in
the respective area when making adjustments of any kind to minimise the
risk of injury.
Note: All white levers or buttons represent setting or adjustment possibilities!
3.1 Back
The back unit can be adjusted in angle
and height. To adjust the back at an
angle, press the white lever (A) and
bring the back into the desired angle
position. The lever engages automati-
cally when you let go of it. In order to
adjustthebackheight,pressthelever(B)
and set the back to the required
height. If you let go of the lever, the
back must engage audibly!
Please observe that the back unit drops abruptly when you release
the lever (B) and do not hold it tight!
Ensure that, during setting / adjustment of the back, no body parts are trapped
in the area of the setting / adjustment mechanism in order to avoid injuries!

3.2 Back angle
The back angle can be adjusted from
-15° to 15°. To do this, hold the push
handle (A) with one hand; using the
other hand, press the safety lock (B)
down and the tilt lever (C) up. Now the
back unit can be brought into the re-
quired position. The degree display (D)
on the side of the activity chair. indica-
tes how the back angle is set.
3.3 Feet (short / long)
The feet can be adjusted to five dif-
ferent levels. In order to adjust the
height, press the button (E) and allow
it to engage audibly at the required
height from the recesses. Remove the
feet by pressing the head (E) and pul-
ling the feet completely out of the ad-
apter. Repeat this process for all four
feet.

3.4 Removable seat unit
The seat unit of the activity chair.
can be removed and can be quickly
mounted on a dierent sub-frame.
Removing the seat unit:
First of all, remove the tube (A) which
leads to the foot support. To do this,
press the white button (B) and pull
the tube out of the tube adapter (C).
If available, lock the castors (see Point
4.4) and remove the armrests (see
Point 4.2). In order to remove the seat
unit, pull the two white levers (D) for-
wards and carefully lift the seat unit. In
this way, you can remove the seat unit
from the crossbar (E).
Mounting the seat unit:
Push the seat bar (F) under the clips (G)
and press the seat unit on forcefully
until it engages audibly. If available,
mount the foot support again by pres-
sing the white button (B) and inserting
the tube into the tube adapter (C)
until it engages audibly. Then the arm-
rests can be remounted (see Point 4.2).
If possible, always use two persons to
remove the seat unit of the activity chair!

3.5 Seat strap
The seat strap supports the user when sit-
ting in the therapy chair, and improves their
posture. To fix or remove the seat strap,
use a pen or similar to press the small white
buttons (A) under the slit (B) right in, and insert
the strap or pull it out. Where you insert the
seat strap depends, amongst other things,
on the user's dimensions. Insert the metal
bracket (C) with the L-shape facing forwards
into one of the slits (B) and press it
in. Check the strength by pulling on the strap.
Repeat the process on the other side.
Risk of strangulation through the straps! Never
leave the user without supervision in the
activity chair.!
3.6 Seat depth
The seat depth can be adjusted by pulling on
the white handle (D). Now you can bring the
seat into the required position. The seat must
engage audibly after adjustment!
3.7 Seat height
The seat height is adjusted via the feet/
castors (see Points 3.3 or 4.4). In addition, the
seat height can be changed if equipped with
a Hi/Lo sub-frame (see Point 4.5)
3.8 Pads
The padded sections can be fastened on
the back section using press studs or remo-
ved by loosening the press studs (see arrows).
The seat pad can be attached / removed by
means of two press studs under the front and
rear edge of the seat.

4.1 Handles
By loosening the screw connection (A),
the following adjustments can be
made on the forearm supports:
• Distance to the user
• Tilt
• Rotation
• Movement in longitudinal direction
To adjust the handle, (B) loosen the
screw connection (C). For dierent
forearm lengths, the handle (B) can
now be pushed forwards or backwards.
The angle, too, can be brought into the
correct position.

4.2 Armrests
The armrests can be adjusted in
height. In order to mount the arm-
rests, insert these vertically into the
slit (A), whilst you keep the button (B)
pressed. The armrests are adjusted in
height by pressing the button (B) and
pushing the respective armrest into
the required position. Afterwards, an
audible clicking sound must be heard,
and only then are the armrests correc-
tly engaged. The angle is adjusted by
pressing the button (C) and bringing
the armrest into the required position.
After this, the armrest must engage
audibly!
4.3 Dynamic
The activity chair. can be ordered with
or without dynamic seat tilt and dy-
namic back. The dynamic serves to
gently absorb the (uncontrolled) mo-
vements of the user.

4.3.1 Dynamic back
The dynamic back is controlled via a
gas pressure spring which is located
behind the backrest.
The gas pressure spring has three
functions:
1. Gas pressure spring unlocked
By turning the white handle (A) clock-
wise, a 10° dynamic movement is pos-
sible. By pressing the white switch (B)
you can also extend the adjustment
range from 20° to (-)5°.
2. Forwards adjustment of the gas
pressure spring
With the backrest tilted forwards, turn
the white handle (A) anti-clockwise.
The white switch (B) permits adjust-
ment from 10° to (-)5°.
3. Tilt adjustment of the gas pressure
spring
Whilst the gas pressure spring is un-
locked, press the backrest into the
lying position. Turn the handle (A)
anti-clockwise. By pressing the white
switch (B), the back angle can be ad-
justed from 20° to (-)5°. When locking
the gas pressure spring, move the
backrest backwards or forwards so
that it slides more easily into the requi-
red position! You can read o the ad-
justed back angle on the display (C),
and the adjusted seat angle on the
display (D)!

4.3.2 Dynamic seat tilt angle
The dynamic seat tilt angle is control-
led via the gas pressure spring which is
located under the seat unit.
The gas pressure spring has three
functions:
1. Dynamic gas pressure spring unlocked
By turning the white handle (A) clockwi-
se, a 10° dynamic movement is possible.
By pressing the white switch (B), you
can also extend the adjustment range
from (-)15° to 15°.
2. Forwards adjustment of the gas pres-
sure spring
With the backrest tilted forwards, turn
the white handle (A) anti-clockwise.
Press the safety lock (B) and the tilt
lever (C); this permits an adjustment
from (-)5° to 15° of the seat surface.
3. Tilt adjustment of the gas pressure
spring
Whilst the gas pressure spring is un-
locked, press the seat into the lying
position. Turn the handle (A) an-
ti-clockwise. Then the seat surface
can be adjusted from -15° to 5°. By
pressing the switch (B), you can adjust
the seat tilt from (-)5° to 15°.
When locking the gas pressure spring,
move the backrest backwards or forwards
so that it slides more easily into the re-
quired position!
You can read off the adjusted seat
angle on the display (C)! The adjus-
ted back angle on the display (D)!

4.4 Castors with brakes
The castors can be adjusted on five height le-
vels. To adjust the height, press the button (A)
and allow it to engage at the required height
from the recesses. Remove the castors by
pressing the button (A) and pulling them out
of the adapter. Repeat this process for all
four castors.
In order to activate the brake function of the
castors, press the pedal (B). In order to de-
activate the brake function, lift the pedal (B)
with your foot. One of the castors is equip-
ped with a direction lock (C). You can acti-
vate this by pressing it down with your foot.
It is important that the direction lock (C) is
positioned between the individual castors as
shown on the adjacent figure. If you no longer
require the direction lock (C), simply pull this
back up again.
4.5 Hi/Lo sub-frame
The Hi/Lo sub-frame is available for the
small sizes and the medium and large sizes
respectively of the activity chair. .
Seat height adjustment, medium/large sizes
Press the pedal (D) with your foot until the re-
quired seat height is reached. To lower the
activity chair. operate the red lever (E) and the
foot pedal upwards until the chair has been
lowered to the desired height.
Seat height adjustment, small size
Press the handle behind the backrest.
In order to make the therapy chair higher,
press the two white switches (F + G) simulta-
neously. Now pull up the lever. In order to ad-
just the therapy chair lower, press both white
switches (F + G) simultaneously, and press the
lever downwards.

4.6 Foot support
The foot support can be adjusted in
height and angle. Moreover, the foot
support can be folded upwards or
swivelled under the seat.
To adjust the knee angle of the foot
support, press the white button (A) on
the gas pressure spring with one hand
and with the other hand bring the
foot support into the desired angle.
After adjustment, the foot support
must re-engage audibly!
In order to adjust the height of the foot
support, press the white buttons (B)
located on the exterior simultaneous-
ly and set the foot support to the re-
quired position. After adjustment, the
foot support must re-engage audibly!
To adjust the angle of the foot pla-
te, press the white button (C) in the
middle of the heel edge and bring the
foot plate into the desired position.
This adjustment is easier if the folding
function is locked with the latch (D) on
the rear of the foot plate.

4.7 Headrest
The headrest can be adjusted in
height, depth and angle. In order to
adjust the angle or the depth, loo-
sen the two twist grips (A + B) and set
the headrest in the required position.
In order to adjust the height or to re-
move the headrest, press the white
button (C) and set the headrest to the
required position or remove it. After
adjusting the height, the headrest
must engage audibly!
4.8 Thorax pelotte pads
The thorax pelotte pads (D) can be
adjusted in height, width and ang-
le. They can be used with or without
the chest strap. In order to fasten /
adjust the thorax pelotte pads (D), loo-
sen the black twist grip (E) and insert
the clamp (F) into the recess (G) behind
the backrest. You can now adjust the
required width in the slotted hole via
the push bar (H). In order to adjust the
height, loosen the twist grip (E), push
the thorax pelotte pad in the rail (I)
to the desired position and re-tigh-
ten the twist grip (E). In order to ad-
just the angle, loosen the twist grip (E)
and set the thorax pelotte pad to the
required angle. Then re-tighten the
twist grip (E).

4.9 Chest strap
There are two types of chest straps:
one which is used in connection with
the thorax pelotte pads and one
which can be used independent-
ly of the pelotte pads. In order to
use the chest strap (A) in connection
with the thorax pelotte pads, loo-
sen and star handle (B) on the tho-
rax pelotte pad, insert the loop of
the chest strap over the push bar of
the thorax pelotte pad, and re-tigh-
ten the twist grip (B). Now you can
adapt the user's chest strap and clo-
se and open it using the plug lock. The
chest strap (C), which can be used wi-
thout thorax pelotte pads, is mounted
by loosening the twist grip (B) on the
rear of the activity chair. and mounting
the loop of the strap over the perfo-
ration. Tighten again the twist grip (B).
The chest strap can now be adapted
on the right and left-hand sides of
the user's chest area, and closed and
opened using a plug lock.
4.10 Chest-shoulder strap
There are two types of chest-shoul-
der straps available; one narrow and
one wide. To attach the chest-shoul-
der strap, insert the top two straps
on the rear of the activity chair. into
the click locks (D + E). Then the two
lower belts are mounted. In order
to fix the straps, use a pen or simil-
ar to press the little white button (F)
in deep (orientate yourself on Point 3.5)
and insert the L-shaped metal bar (G)
into the recesses (H). Now the belts
can be adapted in the user's abdo-
minal area and closed and opened
using a plug lock.
