INSTRUCTIONS
TO BUILD YOUR VERY OWN
BACKGROUND
The magic penny box is designed and
manufactured by scienceSeeds. Build
it for yourself and then give it to your
friends to see if they can solve it.
The kit does not include a penny or oth-
er coins. The size of the coin is dictated
by the opening on panel C.
We developed the kit as a way to intro-
duce magnets and their properties to
children in our program. We hope you
enjoy this kit as much as we do.
PREP
• Lay out your pieces so you can easily
identify them.
• Use markers, pencils or acrylic paint to
decorate the various parts to personal-
ize your box. We recommend coloring
the pieces before assembling the box.
We do not recommend Sharpies as the color
bleeds.
• Your box has been laser cut on ply-
wood which is not always uniform in
width. Consequently some pieces may
t more tightly or loosely than others.
• You can use wood glue to secure
the parts. Use small amounts when
applying the glue. Masking tape will
help secure the pieces while the glue
dries.
• Use sandpaper to sand down parts if
the t is tight. You can also use a hammer
to gently tap pieces into place.

NOTE:
Your kit may or may not have the detailed engrav-
ings. The build instructions are the same. Identify
the components and follow the directions.
Your pieces have small grooves which help hold the
box together. If the parts are a bit tight and you use a
hammer or other tool, make sure to tap gently.
