Not for residential use.
CAUTION: Hot Surfaces, Avoid contact by persons or materials.
The Pacific has some hot surfaces. Be careful to avoid burns. Take care with the Lamp
house and Heat sink. We suggest the use of leather gloves when focusing these
luminaires.
SAFETY - Mains Power Isolation
The Pacific range is fitted with a micro-switch that automatically disconnects the mains
power when the lamp holder is removed. However, it is also recommended that the
luminaire should always be electrically isolated from mains power before re-lamping,
cleaning or servicing.
CAUTION: Risk of fire - Use with max 1200 watt 80V lamp
CAUTION: These luminaires are not suitable for mounting on a normally flammable
surface
These luminaires are not suitable for outdoor use. They are rated at IP00
The luminaire should be at least 1.0 metres away from the nearest object it is lighting.
The Pacific range can be operated only through a range of angles 90°either side of
horizontal.
Introduction
The 80V power system is an innovation designed for use in our Pacific range of luminaires. It exploits the
advantages of a lower voltage supply to increase efficiency with the additional benefit of a higher colour
temperature, which increases the perceived brightness.
The power supply developed for Selecon is an electronic transformer tracking the incoming (dimmed)
supply to deliver a maximum of 80V at the lamp. Mains supply input 220 – 240V to be supplied via a high
quality entertainment type dimmer. The transformer output tracks the dimmer output, typically the
response delay is as found with 2000w mains voltage luminaires.
The 1200W 80V lamp is a high performance lamp intended for ‘non continuous’ use i.e. as for a studio
lamp / theatre lamp, a few hours of use at a time, regularly. It is not intended as a display type luminaire.
Important Operational Notes
CHECK MAINS VOLTAGE OUTPUT AT YOUR DIMMER before setting up the 80V
power supply for your installation.
The Pacific 80V system exploits the advantages of LOW VOLTAGE lamp filament technology; it is
essential that the voltage input switch is correctly set for the maximum voltage measured at the dimmer
output. Voltage losses affect all installations, it is not sufficient to rely on the ‘quoted’ voltage for the local
territory.
Failure to check the mains voltage at the dimmer and correctly set the voltage switch 220 / 230 / 240 may
result in less than optimal output from your Pacific 80V system.

MOUNTING THE POWER SYSTEM ON THE PACIFIC YOKE
First remove the lens tube, then follow the steps below.
Hook Clamp Mounting
The 80V power supply has the option of a hook clamp mounting (order code 20HC).
We recommend mounting the power supply separate from the luminaire as detailed
below.
Situations where the hook clamp option MUST be used are as follows:
•Installations with an ambient air temperature above 25°C
and / or
•Installations where the luminaire will be run at full power for any extended length of
time as per this manual.
The hook clamp is installed through the top of the mounting bracket attached to the back
of the power supply heat sink. A M12 Bolt, M12 Nut and 2 x M12 washers are supplied
with the power supply
When the 80V power supply is used with the hook clamp mounting, a safety chain (order code 20SC)
must be used. This must be passed through the oval anchor holes located on the sides of the mounting
bracket.
Step 1 – Rotate yoke clockwise Step 2 – Attach power supply using mounting
bolts and washers supplied with unit.
Step 3 – Rotate yoke clockwise
Step 4 – Insert lamp module.

WARNING
The 80V 1200W lamp generates a considerable heat output. Supplied with each 80V Power System is a
high heat resistant lens tube clamp knob, and white teflon washer Replace the current lens tube clamp
knob and red fibre washer on the Pacific luminaire with this one.
SETUP
The Power System is an electronic transformer. The output is therefore in direct relationship to the
incoming mains power supply. It is essential that the lamp receives full 80V if the performance advantages
of the lamp are to be achieved.
The Power Supply has three
voltage settings - 220, 230 and
240v accessable from the front
cover. The switch can be slid from
the bottom (240V), to a middle
position (230V), up to the top
position (220V).
To set-up the power supply.
NB: Please refer to the notes on page 3 regarding mains voltage output.
Site Conditions –
The Pacific Power System is designed for high performance applications such as entertainment and
studio lighting. Angles of use of the luminaire are unrestricted i.e. - straight down is OK, however
prolonged operation in the horizontal position is not recommended. The power supply and yoke should
always be pointing vertical.
After extended use some surface discolouration may be observed on the internal plastic surfaces of the
Fortron gate material. This is non structural and can be likened to the degradation paint undergoes within
a lamp house.

LAMP SET UP
Before inserting a lamp into the module, we suggest that you practice the motion of removing and
inserting the lamp holder module from the lamphouse.
Loosen the thumb-screw at the front of the lamp holder module by about 5mm. Holding the lamp holder
module, slide it forward until both the rear lip and the front 'T' of the lamp holder module clear their home
positions [1], then pull the lamp module down [2]. Reverse this action to replace the lamp holder and then
tighten the thumb-screw to lock the lamp holder module into position.
Lamp Replacement & adjustment:
Isolate electrically before re-lamping the luminaire. Also be aware that the lamp or luminaire may
still be hot, so exercise necessary caution to avoid burns.
To ensure optimum performance from your Pacific luminaire, follow the steps below:
Front ‘T’ Rear Lip

Lamp Mounting
The lamp module is factory set at a mid peak / flat field. Mount the lamp ensuring that the pins are fully
pushed home. Fit the module into the luminaire and secure as above.
Turn on and make final peak / flat setting as desired – refer notes below on ‘Optimising the Output’
To replace the lamp –
1 Remove the lamp holder module as described above.
2 Set the level of the metal cup holding the lamp base.
Level the cup with the edge of the module by adjusting the three levelling screws.
3 Remove the old lamp. Align the pins of the new lamp to the correct holes and push the lamp
firmly home. Do not touch the quartz envelope of the lamp with your fingers - use the plastic
sheath supplied to insert the lamp.
4 Carefully replace the lamp holder module and tighten the thumbscrew to lock it into position.
Reconnect the luminaire to the power supply.
5 Turn on the luminaire to approximately 30%. This makes the peak easier to see. Set the beam
angle to its widest with a sharp edge
6 Centre the lamp in the middle of the beam if necessary, by adjusting the three levelling screws.
Optimising the output
The lamp position can be altered to 'peak' or
'Flat' light output. The peak beam gives a central
hot spot falling off evenly to the beam edges.
This setting is useful for normal stage lighting
purposes where beams are overlapped to
achieve an even cover. Flat adjustment
provides a visually even light beam suitable for
gobo projection. Take care to move the lamp
carefully as the lamp filament is burning white
hot and at its most vulnerable. Don't over-tighten
the knobs, finger tight pressure is all that is
required. Peak-Flat gear
Lamp tilt gear
1 Adjust the beam to its narrow angle, with a sharp edge.
2 Peak the output (turn the centre gear clockwise) until you see light flare around the edge of the
beam.
3 Turn the centre gear anti-clockwise until the flare is removed and you have a clean sharp-edged
beam. This is the position of maximum light output.
4 A useful technique to check how well the lamp is centred is to push two of the shutters into the
beam, and then check if any reflection off the shutters is visible in the beam. If so, adjust the
screw on the side opposite to the reflection until it disappears.
5 To set a ‘FLAT’ beam, turn the centre gear anti-clockwise until the distribution appears even
across the beam.

Important Note: The quoted performance figures are achieved with Philips lamps. Other manufacturers
lamps can be used, but no assumptions should be made as to relative performance.
Please refer to the instructions of the lamp manufacturer when disposing of failed lamps.
Safe Practice
Heat
The Pacific incorporates an innovative design to effectively remove the heat out of the luminaire, away
from the critical heat-sensitive components such as the lamp base and wiring. The components that form
part of the heat removal system, the heat-sink and lamp house, will operate at temperatures which can
burn you!!! Take care in handling the luminaire. We recommend the use of gloves when focusing.
Mains Isolation
The Pacific range is fitted with a micro-switch that automatically disconnects the mains power when the
lamp module is removed. However, it is also recommended that the luminaire should always be
electrically isolated from mains power before re-lamping, cleaning or servicing.
Maintenance
The electronics of the Pacific Power System is fitted with an 8A slow blow (6.35 x 32mm) fuse. It is
possible that this fuse may blow in the event of a lamp failure involving the collapse of the filament
structure.
Replacing the lamp and fuse are the only maintenance tasks that can be safely carried out by non-
approved personnel. Refer below - Safety & Maintenance note.
