OM500Overview
TheOM500pairswiththeFocalPoint®monitoringapplicationforarobust,easytousesolutionthat
allowsyoutotrack,monitor,andmanagepersonsofinterest.Omnilink™isamarket‐readymanaged
solutionfororganizationsthatneedtotrackpersonsofinterestwithanankle‐worntrackingdevice.It
usesdevice‐to‐cloudconnectivityandintegratesGPStechnologyandsoftwareforaturnkeyIoT‐enabled
solutionthatallowsprobation,parole,andcorrectionsagenciestomonitorandimmediatelylocateany
offender.TheOM500ankletisdesignedtobewornbyanoffendertoensuretheoffendermeetsthe
termsoftheirreleaseorprobation.TheOM500trackstheoffender’slocationandperiodicallyreportsa
historyoftheoffender’spositionusingcellularcommunicationtotheFocalPointserversandsoftware.
Nominally,theankletisinstalledontheankleoftheoffenderbyanofficerandnotremoveduntilthe
termsoftheoffender’sreleasearecomplete.TheOM‐500hastampersensorstoalertofficerswhen
theoffenderattemptstoremoveordisabletheankletdevice.
History
TheOM500isthelatestoftheOMseriesoffendermonitoringdevices.TheinitialdevicetheOM200
waslaunchedbyOmnilinkSystemsin2004andwasmanufacturedbytheSendumWirelessCorporation,
Burnaby,BC.TheOM200wasthefirstoffendertrackingdevicetouseCDMAforindoorlocation
technology.TheOM200waslaterreplacedbytheOM210in2008.Omnilinksystemslaunchedthe
OM400in2013.TheOM400wasmanufacturedbytheMoreyCorporationfromWoodridge,Illinois.
TheOM400featuredtheabilitytostoredataonthedeviceandprovidecommunicationstotheoffender
byvibrationandtone.AlloftheOMseriesoffendertrackingdevicesoperateontheFocalPoint
platform.In2017OmnilinksystemslaunchedtheFocalPoint4softwarewhichaddedmanynew
featuressuchasdraganddropschedules,agingalerts,andzonestobeloadedontothetrackingdevice.
ThelaunchoftheOM500isanaturalprogressionintheOMseriesoffendertrackingsolution.The
OM500ismanufacturedbytheSendumCorporationandwillfeatureLTEcommunications,WIFIlocation
technologyandtheabilitytosendaudiocommandstothewearer.

FocalPoint4.0isourstate‐of‐the‐artoffendertrackingsystemthatprovidesunrivaledreliabilityand

OM500Strap

TheOM500strapisahypoallergenicdesignmadefromTEXIN245.TheOM500straphasimbedded
fiberopticlinestodetectremovalattempts.TheOM500strapisthesamestrapdesignusedfromthe
OM200,OM210,andOM400withthousandsofsuccessfulusecasesandnosubstantiatedcomplaints.
TheOM500strapwillconnecttothedeviceusingtwoscrewssimilartotheconnectionusedforthe
OM200.

TheplasticlockingpinsusedtosecuretheOM500trackingdevicetothestrapandbackplatearesimilar
designstothelockingpinsusedintheOm200,OM210,andOM400offendertrackingdevices.The
lockingpinsareonetimeusedisposableproducts.Thelockingpinsfeaturetamperevidentdesigns.
TheOmnilinklockingpinsarekeytothenotoolinstillationprocess.
ChargingTheOM500
BeforeyouinstallandusetheOM500deviceitwillbenecessarytochargethebattery:
Step1:PlugtheOm500chargerintoaworkingwalloutlet(120volts).
Step2:PulltheplasticchargerportcoverdownontheOM500torevealthechargerport.
Step3:ConnecttheroundmagneticconnectortothechargerportonthefrontoftheOM500.
Step4:Ifprogramedtodosothedevicewillprovideanaudioalertthatthedeviceisnow
charging.
Step5:Chargethedeviceforaminimumof60minutesorasdirectedbyyouragency
Step6:Unplugthemagneticchargerandreplacetheplasticchargerportcover.Ifprogramed
thedevicewillprovideandaudioalertthatthedevicehasstoppedcharging.



SettingUpYourDeviceintheFocalPointOffenderMonitoringApplication
YoumustlogintoFocalPoint™andcompletetwoessentialandtwooptionalstepsbeforeyouinstallthe
device:
Step1:Assignarateplantothedevice(i.e.thefrequencythedeviceshouldbelocated)
Step2:CreateanoffenderprofileintheFocalPointsoftware
Step3:Assignanoffendertothedevice
Step4:AssignZonesandSchedulesfortheOffender&Device(OptionalStep)

InstallingTheOM500Device
InstallingYourDeviceonanOffender
BeforeinstallinganOM500device,ensurethedeviceisfullycharged.

Youwillbeinstallingthedeviceonanindividual’sankle.DONOTinstallthedeviceonanindividual’s
wristoraroundanyotherpartsoftheirbody.Thedeviceshouldalwaysbeinstalleddirectlyagainstthe
skinwiththefrontofthedevicefacingoutwards.Ensurethattheoffenderremovesanyhigh‐toptennis
shoesorworkboatstohavedirectaccesstotheankle.Forofficersafetyreasonsitisrecommended
thatyouhavethatoffenderstandfacingawallwiththeirkneerestinginachairoronabench.This
methodisrecommendedtolimittheoffender’sknowledgeoftheinstillationprocess.

Step1:ThefirststepforinstallingtheOM500deviceistohavetheoffenderplacetheirkneeon
achairorbenchwithbothoftheirhandsonawall.Thisisthesafestpositiontoinstallthe
device.Installingthedevicewhiletheoffenderisinthispositionwillprovideyouwiththeability
toinstallthedeviceoutofviewoftheoffender.Showingtheoffender,theinstallationprocess

isnotrecommended.Besuretokeepalllockingpinsinasecurelocationoutofreachofthe
offender.

Step2:Thesecondstepoftheinstillationprocessisthesizingofthestrap.Placethestrap
throughthelockingpostonthebackplate.Thestraphasnumbersthatcoincidewitheachhole
onthestrap.Theholesnumbered5through7aregoodstartingplacesasyoudeterminethe
propersizeforthestrap.Forlargerankles,useahighernumberpositiononthestrapandfor
smalleranklesusealowernumber.Insertthestrapthroughthelockingpostsonthebackplate
atthedesiredposition.
Step3:Wrapthestraparoundtheoffender’sankletodetermineifthestrapistoolooseortoo
tight.Adjustthestraponthelockingpostasnecessarytodeterminetheappropriatesize.
Rememberthatthemonitoristobeinstalledontheankleandinstallingthedevicetooloose
couldresultinundetectedremoval.Aproperlysizedstrapwillallowfortwonormalsizefingers
tofitbetweenthestrapandtheoffender’sankle.Thedeviceshouldbelooseenoughtorotate
aroundtheoffender’sankle,butnottoolooseastofitmorethantwofingersbetweenthestrap
andtheankle.
Step4:Afterthestrapisproperlysizedandconnectedtothebackplate,itistimetoconnectthe
devicetothebackplate.Youshouldpracticeclosingthedeviceontoabackplateseveraltimes
beforeattemptingtoinstallthedeviceontoanoffender’sankleforthefirsttime.
Step5:Withthebackplateconnectedtothestrap,slidethelockingtabsintotheconnecting
portsonthedevice.Closethedeviceagainstthebackplateinaclamlikeclosingmotion.Make
suretoslowlyclosethedeviceoverthelockingpost.Ifnotproperlyaligned,forcingthedevice
closedcanbendanddamagethelockingposts.
Step6:Afterthedeviceisproperlyclosedagainstthebackplate,verifythatyoudonothaveany
gapsbeforeinsertingthelockingpins.
Step7:Insertthetoplockingpinfirst.Thetoplockingpinhasalargerheadandwillonlyfitinto
thedeviceinonedirection.Youmayneedtosqueezethedeviceandbackplatetogethertoget
thetoppintodropintoplace.Thebottompinhasaroundhead.Itisveryimportantthatyou
insertthebottompinintothebottomofthedeviceinthecorrectdirection.Theteethofthepin
shouldalwaysfacethedevice.Thebottompinalsohasasmalltickmarkthatshouldalignwith
asmalltickmarkonthebottomofthedevice.Pushthebottompinupwhileholdingthetoppin
inplace.Youshouldhearaloudclickwhichverifiesthepinsareproperlyconnected.Ifyoudo
nothearthepinsclickoryoucan’tsnapthebottompinintoplace,itislikelyyouhaveplaced
thebottompininbackwards.Verifythatthetickmarkonthepinisalignedwiththetickmark
onthedevice.
InstillationConsiderations
Afteryouhaveinstalledthelockingpins,verifythatyoudonothaveanygapsaroundtheoutsideedge
ofthedeviceandthatthelockingpinsareproperlyinstalled.

ThereareseveralfactorsthatyoumustkeepinmindwheninstallingtheOM500.Thefirstfactoristhat
thedeviceisdesignedtobeinstalledonlyonthehumanankle.Iftheoffenderiswearingworkbootsor
high‐toptennisshoes,youmusthavetheoffenderremovetheminordertoinstallthedeviceontothe
ankle.Pleasepaycloseattentionnottoinstallthedevicehigheronthecalfwhichcouldresultin
undetectedremovalattempts.
Thesecondfactorthatshouldbeconsideredistheconditionoftheankle.Iftheankleappearstobe
swollen,youneedtoinquireastowhy.Someanklesareswollenduetoanoffenderbeingoverweight,
however,oftentimesswollenanklesareduetoamedicalconditionsuchasdiabetes,pregnancy,ordue
tomedications.Offendersthathavebeenincustodyandaretakingmedicationsformentalhealth
conditionsoftenhaveretainedwaterintheankleareas.Afterdeterminingthecauseoftheswollen
ankles,installthedeviceasdescribedabove,howeveryoushouldscheduleaperiodicinspectiontime
everyfewweekstodetermineifthestrapisstillproperlysized.Improperlysizedstrapscanallowfor
undetectedremoval.
Omnilinkofferslargerstrapsdesignedforextralargeankles.Thenormaltrapwillfit99%ofalloffender.
Ifyouneedanextra‐largestrap,pleasecontactyouraccountmanager.

FinalizingSet‐upintheFocalPointApplication
Oncethedeviceisinstalled,usersmustlogintoFocalPoint™toclearthedevicetamperalertsand
confirmthatthedeviceisbeingtrackedsuccessfully.
Step1:LogintoFocalPoint™
Step2:Onthehomepage,searchforany“DeviceTamper”iconsforthedeviceassignedtothe
offender.
Step3:Clickthe“DeviceTamper”iconsothatthetamperdetailswindowopens.
Step4:Clickthe“ClearAlert”buttononthealertdetailsscreenandclearthealertasatamper
duringinstillation.Itisalsoagoodideatoenteranalertnote.
Step5:Beforereleasingtheoffender,verifythedeviceisreceivinglocationpointsarereceived
intheFocalPointsoftware.Verifythattheoffenderdoesnothaveanyactivetampers
onthedevice.Iftampersdoappear,verifythedeviceisproperlyclosedandnogaps
appearbetweenthedevoiceandthebackplate.
RemovingtheOM500Device
Step1:Inserttheheadofaflatheadscrewdriverintotheslotontheheadofthebottompin
andturnthescrewdriverseveraltimes.Thecirculardisconthebottompinwillfalloff.
Step2:Placetheendofthescrewdriverunderthelipofthetoppinandpullup.Thebottom
pinshouldcomeupandoutwhenthetoppinisremoved.Ifthebottompinisstuck
insidethedevice,theOmnilinkscrewdriveristhecorrectsizetobeinsertedintothetop
ofthedevicetopushtheremainingbottompinoutofthebottom.
Step3:Liftthedeviceoffthebackplateandremovethestrapandbackplatebyliftingthestrap
bracketsofftheretainingpinsonthebackplate.
