POWERSOURCE
Tosetthebatteries
1.Pressthelatchesofthebatterycompart-
mentlidonthebottomcoverasillustrated
andremovethelid.
2.Installfourbatterieswithcorrectpolarityas
/indicated.
3.Putthelidback.
Notes:
•
Use four new
"D"
cell batteries.
IEC
designation LR20 (Alkaline)
or
R20
(Manganese) batteries.
Alkaline batteries recommended.
•If
the batteries are exhausted while in
operation, the message "WEAK
BATTERIES" willappear onthe display.
The batteries must be replaced with new
ones
of
the same kind.
•
When the printer is not used for a long
period
of
time, remove the batteries to
avoid the damage that may be caused by
battery leakage or corrosion.
ACAdaptor
Beforeusingtheprinter,checkthebackplate
ontherearsidetoseewhetherthevoltage
shownaccordswithpowersupply.
ConnecttheACadaptorcordwiththejackon
therearoftheprinterandwitha power
outlet.
Notes:
•
The installed batteries will be automatically
disconnected when the
AC
adaptor is
connected.
•If
the
AC
adaptor is not in use for a long
time, unplug itto avoid damage.
•
Use the designated
AC
adaptor only.
•
The connector next to the adaptorjack is
for
the optional interface.

CASSETTERIBBON
Toreplacethecassetteribbon
1.Openthepaperbailcover(a).
2.Pullthepaperreleaselever(b)towards
you.
3.Removetheusedcassetteribbonbylifting
it
up.
4.Removethestopper(c)ofthenew
cassetteribbonandattachittothecarrier.
5.Turntheribbonfeedknob(d)inthearrow
directionandkeeptheribbontapetight.
Makesurethattheprintheadtouchesthe
ribbontape.
6.Putthepaperreleaseleverbacktothe
originalposition.
Notes:
•
When using the thermalpaper, be sure to
remove the cassette ribbon.
•
Use the designated cassette ribbon only.

TOSETPAPER
1.Insertthepaperstraightbehindtheplaten.
2.Depresstheindexkey(a).Continuous
pressureonthiskeywillfeedthepaper.
3.Whenthepapercomesupfromunderthe
platen,openthepaperbailcoverandguide
thepaperthroughtheopeningunderthe
paperbailcover.
4.Putthepaperbailcoverbacktothe
originalposition.
Notes:
•If
the paper is not set horizontally, pull the
paper release lever (c) towards you, and
the paper will be released to move freely.
•
To feed the paper, use the index key (a) or
back index key (b).
Do
not pull out the
paper from the platen by hand.

Theprintheadmustbecleanedatregularin-
tervalswiththeaccessoryprintheadcleaner.
Tocleantheprinthead
1.Removethepaperifinsertedintheplaten.
Pullthepaperreleaselevertowardsyou.
2.Printoutcharacters,ifanyonthedisplay,
bydepressingthereturnkey.
3.Removethecassetteribbon.
4.Removecontaminantsbyrubbingthe
shadedportion(a)withtheheadcleaner.
5.Putthepaperreleaselevertoitsoriginal
position.
Note:
•
Use the designatedprint head cleaner only.

pins.Theywilldamagetheprinterorcause
afailure.
4.Donotusetheprinterintheenvironment
whereelectrostaticorelectro-magnetic
fieldexistsorinextremetemperature.
5.Donotusetheprinterinanextremely
dustyorhumidplace,orunderdirect
sunlight.
6.Forstoringorhand-carrying,coverthe
printerwiththehardcase.

INCASEOFDIFFICULTY
Thefollowingis
a
quickreferencetableifthe
printerdoesnotoperate.Iftheproblem
persists,thenconsultyournearestdealer.
PROBLEM POSSIBLECAUSES
Theprinterwillnotoperateatall. Makesure:
—theACadaptorispluggedin.
—fourbatteriesareinstalledwithcorrectpolarity.
—thebatteriesarenotexhausted.
Printingisnotperformedwhen
thekeysaredepressed. Makesure:
—theprintmodeselectorissetonPRINTmode.
—thecassetteribbonisproperlyset.
—thecassetteribbonisnotdepleted.
—thethermalpaperisproperlyused.(Thechemically
processedsidefacingyou.)
—theprintheadisnotcontaminated.
—thepaperreleaseleverisputinitsoriginalposition.
Marginsortabscannotbeset
properly. Makesure:
-thePRINT/CALmodeselectorissetonDPmode.
