Description
The Simplex 5140-9243 Detention Control Console
allows access to all communications features and control
functions of the 5100 series communications system. The
-9243 provides a 25 pair amphenol connector to interface
to N/O (normally open) contacts of a custom graphic
panel (provided separately) to provide one touch
activation of a wide variety of system features. The
Control Console can be used in conjunction with the
5120-9151 Graphic I/O board providing direct select
integration to intercom and camera control functions.
When integrated with a graphic panel, push to talk
intercom operation with remote hands-free 5100 stations
can be accomplished by simply pressing the proper icon
on the graphic panel. Full duplex telephone
communications and industry standard DTMF dialing is
also provided to allow direct dialing to locations not
designated on the graphic. The -9243 features twelve 18
digit autodial inputs for direct dialing, zone paging and
frequently accessed control functions. Flash, pause,
redial, mute, and monitor speaker volume up/down
controls are also provided. A microphone input and
speaker output is available eliminating the need of a
telephone handset.
The 5140-9243 is designed to operate on 5100 Series
System Administrative Ports or 5195 Series System Single
Line Analog Telephone Ports.

Control Console with Graphic I/O:
Microphone/Speaker Option
To initiate a call using a custom graphic and the optional
external microphone/monitor speaker option, the user
would simply press the SELECT key and then the icon
key representing the station to be called. If the system is
programmed in the handsfree mode the user could
immediately begin speaking into the microphone. If not
programmed for handsfree the user would press the “Push
to Talk” key before speaking and release the key to listen.
Replies to the user would be heard through the monitor
speaker. The user can adjust the monitor level of the
speaker by pressing the monitor volume key UP or
DOWN. After the conversation is completed the user
simply pushes the reset button to end the call. The
volume level of the monitor speaker is automatically
restored to a predetermined level when the user
disconnects from the call.
In normal operation an incoming call will cause an audible
ring signal to sound and an icon LED to begin flashing on
the graphic panel. To answer the call the user simply
presses the SELECT key on the graphic. When multiple
icon LEDs are flashing indicating several calls, the user
simply presses the SELECT as stated above to answer the
first call. When the conversation has been completed, the
operator presses the next station icon to be answered.
This operation is continued until all calls have been
answered. When the last call has been addressed, the user
simply pushes the RESET button to return the system to
normal.
Headset Option
Making and receiving calls would be performed in the
same way as with the microphone and speaker option.
Replies from the station would be heard through the
headset with boom microphone as the transmitter.
Handset Option
To answer an incoming call the operator simply removes
the handset from the cradle. If several calls at the same
time are queued, pressing the next station icon to be
answered will pick up the next call. After answering all
calls the user simply hangs up the handset.
Paging
Zone paging is accomplished by pressing the SELECT
key, then press the desired page key and speak into the
microphone or into the headset microphone. By pressing
the ALL CALL key the user has the ability to page all
zones simultaneously.
