The EZ Connect™ 14 Mbps Powerline to Ethernet Starter Kit
(SMCHPKIT-ETH) has everything you need to add Powerline tech-
nology to create or extend a network without having to run expen-
sive CAT-5 cabling. To install this kit, simply connect one of the
Desktop Adapters to an available LAN port on your Barricade
Router and plug it into a power outlet to enable all the power out-
lets in your home as a network connection point. Next, take the
second Powerline Desktop Adapter and connect it to any network-
enabled device where you want to access the internet, email, share
devices, or steam audio or video. The SMCHPKIT-ETH is an excel-
lent solution for getting a Game Console System, such as Xbox® or
PS2®, connected to the Internet for online game playing. The
Powerline to Ethernet Desktop Adapter is compatible with
Windows, Mac, and Linux based PCs.
The EZ Connect 14 Mbps Powerline to Ethernet Starter Kit includes
two Powerline to Ethernet Desktop Adapters in a single pack. Both
Adapters are based on HomePlug 1.0 standard to insure compatibil-
ity with various types of home wiring. Using auto-sensing and rate-
adaptive technology, the Powerline to Ethernet Adapter maintains
the best connection available. With data transfer speeds up to
14Mbps, Powerline is faster then 802.11b wireless and is easier to
install and troubleshoot. Combine this performance with a 56-bit
Data Encryption Standard (DES) with Key Management security
feature and you have a complete solution that is fast and secure.
The EZ Connect 14 Mbps Powerline to Ethernet Adapter comes
with the EZ Configuration Manger utility which is the only
Powerline management software that runs on both the PC and Mac
platforms. This feature-rich utility allows you to manage your net-
work with a friendly naming option for each Powerline device in
your network, view connection status, and monitor throughput
information. For additional status information, each of the
SMCHP1D-ETH included in this kit has easy-to-read
diagnostic LEDs that will display if a Powerline network is
available as soon as it is plugged into the power outlet.
As with all SMC products, the EZ Connect™ Powerline to Ethernet
Starter Kit ships with the SMC EZ Install Wizard to guide you step-
by-step through the installation process. With all of these features
in our innovative desktop chassis, which allows you to connect in
places where a bulky wall-mounted adapter won’t fit, and you have
the ideal Powerline network solution to extend the range of your
wired or wireless network.
