Wireless SMC8511WG
2.4GHz Outdoor Wireless Cable Extension
www.smc.com
The new SMC8511WG Outdoor Wireless CATV Extension is developed
to enable cable system operators to leverage the latest wireless
technology to extend the reach of their existing DOCSIS
networks and to increase service offerings within their current
infrastructure. This solution allows CATV operators to offer
commercial broadband data service to customers at unwired
premises utilizing standard WiFi CPE equipment.
The SMC8511WG provides cable operators a low-cost alternative
for delivering data service to businesses requesting access to a
high-speed network without a cable drop. The product is
designed for ease and speed of deployment leveraging 802.11b/g
wireless technologies. This is a perfect solution for Cable opera-
tors looking to generate new revenues by offering services in
rural areas or with a wireless hotspot.
SMC8511WG cable extension offers flexible configuration options
to meet specific needs for cable operators. As a point-to-multi-
point system, SMC8511WG is efficient and affordable to small
businesses and corporate applications. As a point-to-point
bridging applications, it is a powerful, dedicated wireless data
link for enterprise network.
The SMC8511WG is a self contained unit with internal DOCSIS
cable modem, Ethernet interface, wireless access point with a
high gain antenna and 60-90 VAC CATV power supply housed in
a weatherproof enclosure. Operating power is supplied from the
CATV plant through a power passing tap or through the Ethernet
connection. SMC8511WG mounts on the strand and is available
with mounting hardware for rooftop or tower or pole installations.
SMC8511WG allows for easy management through HTTP, SNMP,
SSH and Telnet. Web based network management tools make
configuration and remote management of the network simple.
SNMP allows for easy integration into your existing wired net-
work and management infrastructure. SMC8511WG supports the
principal access and security protocols on the DOCSIS network
side (BPI). Wireless security includes enterprise level advanced
authentication and encryption. Security features include 64/128
bit WEP, TKIP and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), WiFi
Protected Access (WPA) and authentication using 802.11X.
SMC8511WG also supports Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
WDS enables wireless bridging between the SMC8511WG and
other wireless enable CPE's that support WDS.
Combine these features with SMC's service and support, you
have an ideal solution for broadband access.
