two models:MVCCD200, MVC-CD300.
TheMVC-CD300 is themodelusedfor
illustration purposes.
Otherwise,themodelnameis indicatedin
theillustrations. Any differencesin
operationareclearly indicatedin thetext,
for example,“MVC-CD300 only.”
As you readthroughthis manual,buttons
andsettingsonthecameraareshownin
capitalletters.

This digital still camerauses8 cm CD-Rsl
CD-RWsasrecordingmedia.“CD-R” or
“CD-RW” mentionedaboveis indicatedas
“disc” in this manual.Whenadistinction
betweenCD-RsandCD-RWs is necessary,
“disc” is indicatedas“CD-R’ or “CD-RW.”

l TheLCD screenandthefinder are
manufacturedusingextremelyhigh-
precisiontechnologysoover99.99%of
thepixels areoperationalfor effectiveuse.
However,theremaybesometiny black
pointsand/orbright points(white, red,
blueor greenin color) thatconstantly
appearon theLCD screenandthefinder.
Thesepoints arenormalin the
manufacturingprocessanddo not affect
therecordingin anyway.
l Becareful whenplacing thecameraneara
window or outdoors.ExposingtheLCD
screen,the tinder or thelensto direct
sunlight for long periodsmaycause
malfunctions.
Do not get the camera wet
Whentaking picturesoutdoorsin therainor
undersimilar conditions,becarefulnot to
getthecamerawet.If moisture
condensationoccurs,referto page87and
follow theinstructionsonhow to removeit
beforeusingthecamera.
Back up recommendation
To avoidthepotentialrisk of dataloss,

Captures images with your computer
You caneasily copy imagesonto your computerthroughaCD-ROM drive, CD-R
drive, CD-RW drive, or the USB cableandview andmodify imageson your
computerusing application software.When usingaCD-ROM drive to view images

installing the battery pack

Open the battery cover. Slide the battery eject lever in the arrow direction,
and remove the battery pack.

Charging the battery pack
Whenthecamerais turnedon, you cannotchargethebatterypack.Besureto turn off
thepower of thecamera.
0 Insert the battery pack into your camera.
0 Open the DC IN cover and connect the AC power adaptor to the DC
IN jack of your camera with the A mark facing up.
0 Connect the power cord (mains lead) to the AC power adaptor and
then to a wall outlet (mains).
The 5 /CHG lamp (orange)abovetheLCD screenlights up whencharging
begins.When the 5 KHG lamp goesoff, full charge is completed.
After charging the battery pack
DisconnecttheAC power adaptorfrom the DC IN jack on your camera.
Battery remaining indicator
The LCD screenon thecamerashowsthe remainingtime for which you canstill
recsd or play backimages.
This indication may not beentirely accuratedependingon the conditionsof useand
theoperatingenvironment.
Chargingat aroom temperatureof 10°Cto 30°C (50°F to 86°F) is recommended.

NPFM50 (supplied) battery pack
When you record imagesin anextremelycold location or usingtheLCD backlight,
theoperatingtime becomesshort.When usingthe camerain anextremely cold
location, placethebattery packin your pocketor otherplacesto keepit warm, then
insert thebattery packinto thecamerajust before recording.Whenusing apocket
heater,takecarenot to let the heaterdirectly contactthebattery. g

Using the AC power adaptor
@ Open the DC IN cover and connect the AC power adaptor to the DC
IN jack of your camera with the A mark facing up.
0 Connect the power cord (mains lead) to the AC power adaptor and
then to a wall outlet (mains).

When using the AC power adaptor
Be sureto useit nearthe wall outlet (mains).If amalfunction occurs,disconnectthe

Setting the date and time
When you first useyour camera,setthe dateandtime. If thesearenot set,the
CLOCK SET screenappearswheneveryou turn on your camera.
@ Set the mode dial to m, S, A, M, a, SCN, or q .
0 Push the POWER switch in the arrow direction to turn on the
power.
The POWER ON/OFF (CHG) lamp (green)lights up.
The CLOCK SET screenappears.
Whenresettingthedateandtime onceyou set,setthemodedial to SET UP
(page84) andthenfollow theprocedurefrom step0.
0 Select the desired date display format with
AIV on the control button, then press the

Selectfrom [Y/M/D] (year/month/day), [M/D/Y]

Initializing a disc (INITIALIZE)
When you useanewdisc or the disc which wasfinalized with otherequipmentthan
this camera(page32), you haveto initialize thedisc.Before initializing thedisc,
pushthe POWER switch in the arrow direction to turn on thepower andinsertthe
disc.
0 Set the mode dial to m, S, A, M, SCN, or ll3.
“INITIALIZE PLACE ON LEVEL SURFACE” appearson theLCD screen.
Be sureto avoid anyvibration during the initialization in step0.
0 Select [OK] with A on the control button, then press the center 0.
Initialization starts.
To cancel the initialization
Select[CANCEL] with v on thecontrol button, thenpressthe center0.
To initialize after canceling the initialization
Opekand closethedisc cover.Or setthe modedial to m, S,A, M, SCN, or [#1,
pressA on thecontrol button, thenpressthecenter0.

what is initialization?
The initialization is requiredto recordimageson adisc.
In casethat you haveexecutedthefinalization (page32) usingthecamerato view
imageson a CD-ROM drive, theinitialization is automatically executed.Youcan
continuouslyrecordimages.When executingthefinalization usingacomputeror
otherequipment,executethe initialization to recordnewimages.Imagesrecorded
beforefinalization will remainon thedisc.
Tip
Youcanalsoexecutetheinitialization using [@ ] (DISC TOOL) in thesetupsettings
(page84).

Recording still images
Still imagesarerecordedin JPEGformat. Before recording still images,pushthe
POWER switch in thearrow direction to turn on thepowerandinsert adisc.
@ Set the mode dial to m, S, A, M, or SCN.
Press and hold the shutter button halfway down.
The beepssound.However, the image has not been recorded yet. While the
AE/AF lock indicator is flashing, thecameraautomaticallyadjuststhe
exposureandfocusof ecapturedimage.When th erafinishesthe
automaticadjustments, the AE/AF lock indicator ps flashing, then
lights up, and the camera is ready for recording.
If you releasetheshutterbutton, therecordingwill becanceled.
