using the number buttons. Also use this menu to
change the password.
Parental Control (limited playback)
You can set aplayback limitation level.

by increasing the picture contrast and the

DYNAMIC 2: Produces amore dynamic
picture than
DYNAMIC 1by further increasing
the picture contrast and color intensity.
CINEMA 1: Enhances details in dark areas by
increasing the black level.
CINEMA 2: White colors become brighter and
black colors become richer, and the color
contrast is increased.
MEMORY -: Adjusts the picture in greater
detail.
~ SHARPNESS
Exaggerates the outline of the image to produce
asharper picture.
OFF: Cancels this option.
1: Enhances the outline.
2: Enhances the outline more than I.
Bii!I AV SYNC
Adjust the delay between the picture and sound.
This function is not effective when:
-you use the DIGITAL
OUT (COAXIAL)
jack, and set
"DOLBY DIGITAL" and "DTS"
in "AUDIO SETUP" to "DOLBY DIGITAL"
and "ON" respectively (page 8).
-you connect aDolby Digital or DTS-
compliant device via the
HDMI OUT jack,
and set
"DOLBY DIGITAL" and "DTS" in
"AUDIO SETUP" to "DOLBY DIGITAL"
and "ON" respectively (page 8).

The "A V SYNC" adjustment bar appears.

Each time you press

_TVS (TV Virtual Surround)
Selects surround sound effect when connecting
astereo
TV or 2front speakers. This only works
when playing amultichannel Dolby audio
sound track. Furthermore,
if the player is set up
to output the signal from the
DIGITAL OUT
(COAXIAL)/HDMI OUT jack, the surround
effect will only be heard when
"DOLBY
DIGITAL" is set to "D-PCM" in "AUDIO
SETUP" (page 8).
OFF: Cancels the setting.

MODE 2: The image sweeps in from top left to
bottom right.

bottom.
MODE 4: The image sweeps in from left to

MODE 5: The image stretches out from the
center
of the screen.
OFF: Turns offthis function.

Selects the media type you want to play.
VIDEO: Plays video files.
PHOTO (MUSIC): Plays photo and music
files
as aslide show. You can view aslideshow
with sound when music and photo files are
placed
in the same album. If the playing time of
either music or photos is longer, the longer one
continues without sound or image.
PHOTO (BGM): Plays photo files with the
player's internal background sound. To choose
the melody
of the background sound, press
AUDIO repeatedly while viewing the image.
MUSIC: Plays music files. Press SUBTITLE
while playing music files that contain
unsynchronized lyric information. The player
supports MP3 103 Lyrics only.
*Depending on the file, this function may not be
possible.
To play VIDEO CDs with PBC
functions
When you start playing a VIDEO CD with
PBC (Playback control) functions, the menu
for
your selection appears.
To play without using PBC
Press ~ /~ or the number buttons while
the player is stopped to select atrack, then
press
~ or ENTER. To return to PBC
playback, press. twice, then press ~.
To lock the disc tray (Child Lock)
You can lock the disc tray to prevent it being
opened by mistake.
When the player is in standby mode, press in
order,
0"" RETURN, ENTER, and lie!.) on the
remote.
The player turns on and "L :J:= :=1" (LOCKED)
appears on the front panel display. The ~
button on the player does not work while the
Child
Lock is set.
To unlock the disc tray
When the player is in standby mode, press in
order,
0-. RETURN, ENTER, and lie!.) on
the remote again.
Controlling TVs with the remote
You can control the sound level, input source,
and power switch of your Sony TV with the
supplied remote.
If your TV is listed in the table below, set the
appropriate
manufacturer's code.
When you replace the batteries of the remote,
set the appropriate
code number again.

does not contain ajacket picture, the
"GRAPHICS" picture appears.
BLACK LEVEL: Selects the black level (setup
level) for video signals output from the jacks
other than COMPONENT VIDEO OUT/HDMI
OUT.
BLACK LEVEL (COMPONENT OUT):
Selects the black level (setup level) for video
signals output from the COMPONENT VIDEO
OUT jacks.
PROGRESSIVE (COMPONENT OUT

If you have aSony TV that is compatible with
"PhotoTV HD," you can enjoy the best
quality images. "PhotoTV
HD" is activated
when the player is connected to a
TV by an
HDMI cord and "lPEG RESOLUTION" in
"HDMI SETUP" is set to "PhotoTV HD"
(page 8).

OSD (On-Screen Display): Switches the
display language on the screen.
MENU*): Selects the desired language for the
disc's menu (DVD VIDEO only).
AUDIO*): Switches the language
of the sound
track. When you select "ORIGINAL," the
language given priority in the disc is selected.
(DVD VIDEO only)
SUBTITLE *): Switches the language of the
subtitle recorded on the DVD VIDEO. When
you select "AUDIO FOLLOW," the language
for the subtitles changes according to the
language you selected for the sound track.

PAUSE MODE: Selects the picture in pause
mode. Normally select "AUTO." When the
picture is output in high resolution, set to
"FRAME." (DVD only)
TRACK SELECTION: Gives the sound track
which contains the highest number of channels
priority when you playa DVD VIDEO on
which multiple audio formats (PCM, DTS, or
Dolby Digital format) are recorded. If you
select "AUTO," priority is given. (DVD
VIDEO only)
IMAGE QUALITY: Selects the priority
display to either high quality image or quick
speed. (Photo files only) .
MULTI-DISC RESUME: Switches the MUltl-
disc Resume setting on or off. Resume playback
can be stored in memory for up to 6different
DVD VIDEOslVIDEO CDs. If you start the
settings again, the resume point is cleared.

AUDIO DRC (Dvnamic Range Control)*3:
Set according the ~uITounding environment. Set
to "TV MODE" when the smallest sounds are
indiscernible, or set to "WIDE RANGE" when
the listening environment is good, for example,
in ahome movie theater.
DOWNMIX*3: Switches the method for
mixing down to 2channels when you playa
DVD which has rearsoundelements (channels),
or is recorded in Dolby Digital format.
Normally select "DOLBY SURROUND."
DIGITAL OUT: Selects if audio signals are
output via the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL)/
HDMI OUTjack. When you select "ON," set
also the following "DOLBY DIGITAL,"
"DTS," or "48kHz/96kHz PCM."
DOLBY DIGITAL: Selects the type of Dolby
Digital signal. Set to "D-PCM" when the player
is connected to an audio component without a
built-in Dolby Digital decoder.
DTS: Selects the type of DTS audio signal. Set
to "ON" when you playa DVD VIDEO with
DTS sound tracks. 00 not set to "ON" when
you connect the player to an audio component
without aDTS decoder.
48kHz/96kHz PCM: Selects the sampling
frequency of the digital audio output signal.
(DVD VIDEO only)
~ HDMISETUP
You can adjust items related to HOMI
connection.
HDMI RESOLUTION*2: Selects the type of
video signal output from the HOMI OUT jack.
If "AUTO (I 920x1080p)" (default) is selected,
the player outputs video signals of the hi~hest
resolution acceptable for yourTV. If the picture
is not clear, unnatural or otherwise not to your
satisfaction, try another option that suits the
disc, TV/projector, etc. For details, refer also to
the instruction manual supplied with the TV/
projector, etc.
You cannot select this when "JPEG
RESOLUTION" is set to "PhotoTV HD."
JPEG RESOLUTION: Selects the type of
JPEG resolution so that you can enjoy ahigh
picture quality via HDMI connection.
This setting is effective only when you set "TV
TYPE" to "16:9." You cannot select this when
"HDMI RESOLUTION" is set to "720x480p."
"(l920x 1080i) HD D " and "(1920x1080i)
HD" are effective only when you set "HOMI
RESOLUTION" to "1920x1080i." If you set
this setting to "PhotoTV HD," "(l920xl080i)
HD D" or "(1920xl080i) HD," the effect,
rotation, and zoom functions are not available.
YCBCRlRGB (HDMI): Selects the type of
HDMI signal output from the HDMI OUTjack.
Set to "RGB" if the playback picture is
distorted. You cannot select this when "JPEG
RESOLUTION" is set to "PhotoTV HD."
AUDIO (HDMI): Selects the type of audio
signal output from the HDMI OUT jack. Set ~o
"PCM" if you connect the player to aTV that IS
not compatible with DOLBY DIGITAL/DTS
signals.
*1 When you select "OTHERS __ ," select and
enter alanguage code. See "LANGUAGE
CODE LIST" at the end of this manual.
*2 If the picture does not appear normally or goes
blank, reset the setting. Press 1/6 to tum off,
enter "369," and then press 1/6 to tum on the
player again.
*3 This function affects the output from the
following jacks:
-AUDIO OUT L/R jacks.
-DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL)/HDMI OUT
jackonly when "DOLBYDIGITAL" is set to

Troubleshooting
If you experience any of the following
difficulties while using the player, use this
troubleshooting guide to
help remedy the
problem before requesting repairs. Should
any problem persist, consult your nearest
Sony dealer.
The power is not turned on.
-+ Check that the power cord is connected
securely.
There is no picture/picture noise appears.
~ Re-connect the connecting cord securely.
-+ The connecting cords are damaged.
-+ Check the connection to your TV and switch
the input selectoron yourTV so that the signal
from the player appears on the TV screen.
-+ The disc is dirty or flawed.
-+ Press 1/(9 to tum off the player, and enter
"369" using the number buttons on the remote,
then press
1/(9 to tum on the player again.
There is no sound.
-+ Re-connect the connecting cord securely.
-+ The connecting cord is damaged.
-+ The playeris in pause mode orin Slow-motion
Play mode.
-+ The player is in fast forward or fast reverse
mode.
The remote does not function.
-+ The batteries in the remote are weak.
~ The remote is not pointed at the remote sensor
lIB on the player.
-+ When you operate the player by pressing
buttons on the remote
in sequence, press the
buttons within 5seconds
of each other.
The disc does not play.
-+ The disc is turned over.
Insert the disc with the playback side facing
down.
-+ The disc is skewed.
-+ The player cannot play certain discs.
-+ The region code on the DVD does not match
the player.
~ Moisture has condensed inside the player.
~ The player cannot playa recorded disc that is
not correctly finalized.
The player does not operate properly.
-+ When static electricity, etc., causes the player
to operate abnormally, unplug the player.
The disc tray does not open and":_ c: := FI"
(LOCKED) appears on the front panel
display.
-+ Child Lock is set (page 6).
The disc tray does not open and

LIMITED WARRANTY(U.S. Only)
Sony Electronics Inc. (“Sony”) warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship for the
time periods and as set forth below. Pursuant to this Limited Warranty, Sony will, at its option, (i) repair the
product using new or refurbished parts or (ii) replace the product with a new or refurbished product. For
purposes of this Limited Warranty, “refurbished” means a product or part that has been returned to its
original specifications. In the event of a defect, these are your exclusive remedies.
Labor: For a period of ninety days from the original date of purchase of the product (“Labor Warranty”),
Sony will, at its option, repair or replace with new or refurbished product, product determined to be defec-
tive. If Sony elects to replace the product after this Labor Warranty has expired but while the Parts War-
ranty below is still in effect, it will do so for the applicable labor charge.
Parts: For a period of one year from the original date of purchase of product (“Parts Warranty”), Sony will
supply new or refurbished replacement parts in exchange for parts determined to be defective.
This Limited Warranty covers only the hardware components packaged with the Product. It does not cover
technical assistance for hardware or software usage and it does not cover any software products whether
or not contained in the Product; any such software is provided “AS IS” unless expressly provided for in
any enclosed software Limited Warranty. Please refer to the End User License Agreements included with
the Product for your rights and obligations with respect to the software.
Instructions: To obtain warranty service, you must deliver the product, freight prepaid, in either its original
packaging or packaging affording an equal degree of protection to the Sony authorized service facility
specified. It is your responsibility to backup any data, software or other materials you may have stored or
preserved on your unit. It is likely that such data, software, or other materials will be lost or reformatted
during service and Sony will not be responsible for any such damage or loss. A dated purchase receipt is

Repair / Replacement Warranty: This Limited Warranty shall apply to any repair, replacement part or
replacement product for the remainder of the original Limited Warranty period or for ninety (90) days,
whichever is longer. Any parts or product replaced under this Limited Warranty will become the property

This Limited Warranty only covers product issues caused by defects in material or workmanship during
ordinary consumer use; it does not cover product issues caused by any other reason, including but not
limited to product issues due to commercial use, acts of God, misuse, limitations of technology, or modi-
fication of or to any part of the Sony product. This Limited Warranty does not cover Sony products sold AS
IS or WITH ALL FAULTS or consumables (such as fuses or batteries). This Limited Warranty is invalid if the
factory-applied serial number has been altered or removed from the product. This Limited Warranty is

LIMITATION ON DAMAGES: SONY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL
