This Quick Setup Guide describes how to connect a Super Audio CD/CD player, DVD player, TV monitor,
speakers, and a sub woofer so that you can enjoy multi-channel surround sound. Refer to the operating
instructions supplied with the receiver for details.
Instructions are explained with illustrations of the STR-DA5200ES model.
1: Installing speakers
The illustrations above show an example of a 7.1 channel speaker system (seven speakers and one sub
woofer) configuration. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the receiver and the other side of
this guide.
The illustrations in the guide designate speakers as through .

The surround back speakers (left/right) are compliant with the zone 2 operation. Refer to the operating instructions supplied
with the receiver.
2: Connecting the speakers
Connect the speakers according to the number and kind of your speakers.
About speaker cords
Use speaker cords, which are appropriate for the width of the room.
By deciding on the color or mark of the speaker cord to be connected to the plus (+) or minus (–)
connector, you can always be sure of connecting the cord correctly without mistaking plus or minus.

Turn the locking knob until the speaker cord is connected securely.
About the SPEAKERS (OFF/A/B/A+B) switch
You can select the speaker system. Refer to “8: Setting the speakers” in the operating instructions supplied
with the receiver for details.
3: Connecting other components
This is an example of how to connect this receiver and your components. Refer to step 3 of “Getting
Started” of the operating instructions supplied with this receiver for details on other connections and other
components.
This receiver is equipped with function for converting video signals. Refer to “4b:Connecting the video
components” in the operating instructions supplied with the receiver.
4: Connect all power cords last
Connect the supplied AC power cord (mains lead) to the AC IN terminal on the receiver, then connect the
AC power cord (mains lead) to a wall outlet.
The configuration, shape, and number of AC outlets vary according to the area code. Refer to “Connecting
the AC power cord (mains lead)” in the operating instructions supplied with the receiver.




Ce guide d’installation rapide décrit comment raccorder un lecteur CD Super Audio/CD, un lecteur DVD,
un téléviseur, des enceintes et un subwoofer afin d’obtenir un son surround multicanaux. Consultez le mode
d’emploi fourni avec l’ampli-tuner pour plus d’informations.

1: Installation des enceintes

2: Raccordement des enceintes
Raccordez les enceintes en fonction du nombre et type de vos enceintes.
Cordons d’enceinte
Utilisez des cordons d’enceinte qui sont adéquats pour la largeur de la pièce.
En vous basant sur la couleur ou la marque du cordon d’enceinte à raccorder au connecteur plus (+) ou
moins (–), vous êtes sûr de toujours brancher correctement le cordon sans inverser le plus et le moins.

Bornes d’enceintes
Raccordez les bornes aux bornes de l’ampli-tuner et les bornes aux bornes de l’ampli-tuner.

d’emploi fourni avec l’ampli-tuner.
Tournez le bouton de verrouillage jusqu’à ce que le cordon d’enceinte soit solidement connecté.
Commutateur SPEAKERS (OFF/A/B/A+B)
Vous pouvez sélectionner le système d’enceintes. Reportez-vous à « 8: Réglage des enceintes » du mode
d’emploi fourni avec l’ampli-tuner pour plus d’informations.
3: Raccordement d’autres appareils
Ce guide donne un exemple de raccordement de cet ampli-tuner et de vos appareils. Reportez-vous à l’étape
3 de « Mise en service » du mode d’emploi fourni avec cet ampli-tuner pour plus d’informations sur d’autres
raccordements et d’autres appareils.
Cet ampli-tuner est équipé d’une fonction de conversion des signaux vidéo. Reportez-vous à « 4b:
Raccordement des appareils vidéo » dans le mode d’emploi fourni avec l’ampli-tuner.
4: Raccordez tous les cordons d’alimentation en dernier lieu
Branchez le cordon d’alimentation secteur fourni à la borne AC IN de l’ampli-tuner, puis branchez-le à une
prise électrique murale.
La configuration, la forme et le nombre de sorties CA diffèrent en fonction du code de région. Reportez-
vous à « Branchement du cordon d’alimentation secteur » dans le mode d’emploi fourni avec l’ampli-tuner.




Calibrating the appropriate settings
automatically (AUTO CALIBRATION)
You can set up the speakers to obtain the desired sound from all
connected speakers automatically by using the auto calibration
function.
Before you perform auto calibration
During the calibration, the sound that comes out of the speakers is very
loud. Pay attention to the presence of children or to the effect on your
neighborhood.
Perform the auto calibration in a quiet environment to avoid the effect of
noise and get a more accurate measurement.
If there are any obstacles in the path between the optimizer microphone and
the speakers, the calibration cannot be performed correctly. Remove any
obstacle from the measurement area to avoid measurement failure.
1Install and connect the speakers and TV.
For detail, see front page.
2Connect the supplied optimizer microphone to
the AUTO CAL MIC jack.
The AUTO CAL MIC jack is used for the supplied optimizer
microphone only. Do not connect other microphones. Doing
so may damage the receiver and the microphone.
3Set up the optimizer microphone.
Place the optimizer microphone at your listening position.
Use a stool or tripod so that the optimizer microphone
remains at the same height as your ears. Place the optimizer
microphone so that the left microphone faces the front
left speaker and the right microphone faces the right front
speaker.
On setting up the active sub woofer
When a sub woofer is connected, turn on the sub woofer andsub woofer andand
turn up the volume beforehand. Turn the VOLUME knob to just
before the mid-point.
If you connect a sub woofer with the crossover frequency
function, set the value to maximum.
If you connect a sub woofer with an auto standby function, set it
to off (deactivated).
Performing auto calibration
The auto calibration function allows you to measure the following:
whether or not speakers are connected, polarity of speakers,
distance of each speaker to your listening position, speaker angle,
speaker size, speaker level, frequency characteristics.
1Connect a TV monitor to this receiver.
Refer to “3: Connecting the monitor for displaying menus” in
the operating instructions.
2Turn on the receiver and the TV.
Change the TV input to the menu screen of this receiver.
3Press RECEIVER to enable receiver operation.
You do not need to press RECEIVER if the other input
buttons do not light up.
4Press ON SCREEN.
The menu list appears on the TV screen. Press MENU when
the menu list does not appear on the TV screen. The menu
appears on the TV screen when “GUI ON” appears on the
display.
5Press /repeatedly to select “Settings,” then
press or .
The Settings menu list appears on the TV screen.
6Press /repeatedly to select “Auto Calibration,”
then press .
7Press /repeatedly to select “Auto Calibration
Start,” then press .
8Press /repeatedly to select Position, then press
or .
You can register three patterns as position 1, 2, and 3,
depending on the listening position, listening environment
and measurement conditions.
9Press .
Press /and repeatedly to un-check the items you do
not want to measure.

10 Press to select “Start.”
11 The measurement starts in five seconds.
12 Measurement starts.
The measurement process will take approximately 30 seconds.
Wait until the measurement process completes.
13 The measurement is completed.
When the measurement ends, a beep sounds and the
measurement result appears on the TV screen.









Tip
The displayed unit of distance for models for US and Canada is feet. The
unit of distance for models for countries/areas other than US and Canada
is meters. You can change the unit of distance use in “Distance Unit” in the
Auto Calibration settings menu.
14 Press to select “Next.”
15 Press /repeatedly to select “�es,” then press“�es,” then pressthen press
.
16 Press /repeatedly to select the auto calibration
type, then press .
The measurement results are saved.
Parameter Explanation
Full Flat Makes the measurement of frequency from
each speaker flat.
Engineer Sets the frequency to one that matches that
of the Sony listening room standard.
Front Reference Adjusts the characteristics of all the
speakers to match the characteristics of the
front speaker.
OFF Sets the auto calibration to off.
17 Press RETURN/EXIT.
The auto calibration start up screen appears.
When error codes appear
When “Auto calibration (auto speaker setup) complete, but an
issue occurred. Confirm Issue?” appears on the TV screen in
step 14, you can select whether to confirm the warning (“Yes”) or
not (“No”). Follow the instructions of the TV screen when you
select “Yes.” For details on warning and error codes, see “Message
list after auto calibration measurement” in “9: Calibrating the
appropriate settings automatically (AUTO CALIBRATION)” in
the operating instructions.
Note
You cannot measure the speaker height of the surround speakers and the
surround back speakers. Set this value from the surround position settings in
the Auto Calibration.
Tips
The size of a speaker (LARGE/SMALL) is determined by the low
characteristics. The measurement results may vary, depending on the position
of the optimizer microphone and speakers, and the shape of the room. It
is recommended that you follow the measurement results. However, you
can change those settings in the Auto Calibration settings menu. Save the
measurement results first, then try to change the settings if you want.
Press on the remote when “Please Press ENTER” appears on the TV
screen.
Setting up other components
You should set up each component so that take out sound is
output from speakers correctly when you play back a connected
component. The following case describes Sony components. Refer
to the operating instructions supplied with each component.
Sony Super Audio CD player
Select a suitable playback area (multi-channel or 2 channel).
Sound may come out from only the front speaker left/right when 2
channel is selected.
Sony DVD player
1Select “AUDIO SETUP” on the setup display of the
DVD player.
2Set “AUDIO DRC” to “WIDE RANGE.”
3Set “DIGITAL OUT” to “ON.”
4Set “DOLB� DIGITAL” to “DOLB� DIGITAL.”
5Set “DTS” to “ON” or “DTS.” (Select the setting
depending on the model)
Note
Set up the audio format of the playback disc to listen to multi channel sound.
After the setting
The receiver is now ready to use. Refer to the operating instruction
supplied with the receiver for details.



Calibrage automatique aux réglages
appropriés (AUTO CALIBRATION)
La fonction de calibrage automatique vous permet de régler les
enceintes de façon à obtenir automatiquement le son désiré à
toutes les enceintes connectées.
Avant de commencer le calibrage
automatique
Pendant le calibrage, le son émis par les enceintes est très fort. Veillez à ce qu’il
n’y ait pas d’enfants à proximité et à ne pas perturber le voisinage.
Effectuez le calibrage automatique dans un environnement silencieux pour
éviter l’effet de bruit et obtenir une mesure plus précise.
S’il y a des obstacles dans la trajectoire entre le microphone d’optimisation
et les enceintes, le calibrage ne s’effectuera pas correctement. Pour éviter des
erreurs de mesure, enlevez tout obstacle de la zone de mesure.
1Installez et raccordez les enceintes et le téléviseur.

2Raccordez le microphone d’optimisation fourni à
la prise AUTO CAL MIC.
La prise AUTO CAL MIC ne doit être utilisée que pour le
microphone d’optimisation fourni. Ne raccordez pas d’autres
microphones. Ceci pourrait endommager l’ampli-tuner et le
microphone.
3Installez le microphone d’optimisation.
Placez le microphone d’optimisation sur votre position
d’écoute. Utilisez un tabouret ou un trépied pour que le
microphone d’optimisation soit à la même hauteur que vos
oreilles. Placez le microphone d’optimisation de façon que
le micro gauche soit tourné vers l’enceinte avant gauche et le
micro droit vers l’enceinte avant droite.
Réglage du subwoofer amplifié
Lorsqu’un subwoofer est raccordé, allumez-le et augmentez le
volume préalablement. Tournez le bouton du VOLUME jusque
un peu avant le point central.
Si le subwoofer est doté d’une fonction de sélection de la
fréquence de recouvrement, choisissez la valeur maximale.
Si le subwoofer est doté d’une fonction de mise en veille
automatique, désactivez cette fonction.
Exécution du calibrage automatique
La fonction de calibrage automatique vous permet de mesurer les
éléments suivants :
si des enceintes sont raccordées ou non, la polarités des enceintes,
la distance entre chaque enceinte et votre position d’écoute, l’angle
des enceintes, la taille des enceintes, le niveau des enceintes, les
caractéristiques de fréquence.
1Raccordez un téléviseur à cet ampli-tuner.
Reportez-vous à « 3: Raccordement d’un écran pour afficher
les menus » du mode d’emploi.
2Allumez l’ampli-tuner et le téléviseur.
Changez la source d’entrée du téléviseur pour afficher l’écran
de menu de cet ampli-tuner.
3Appuyez sur RECEIVER pour activer les opérations
ampli-tuner.
Vous n’avez pas besoin d’appuyer sur RECEIVER si les autres
touches de sources d’entrée ne s’allument pas.
4Appuyez sur ON SCREEN.
La liste des menus s’affiche sur l’écran du téléviseur. Appuyez
sur MENU si la liste des menus ne s’affiche pas. Le menu
s’affiche sur l’écran du téléviseur lorsque « GUI ON » apparaît
sur l’affichage.
5Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /pour sélectionner
« Settings », puis appuyez sur ou .
La liste des menus de réglage s’affiche sur l’écran du téléviseur.
6Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /pour sélectionner
« Auto Calibration », puis appuyez sur .
7Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /pour sélectionner
« Auto Calibration Start », puis appuyez sur .
8Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /pour sélectionner
« Position », puis appuyez sur ou .
Vous pouvez enregistrer trois configurations comme positions
1, 2 et 3, selon la position d’écoute, l’environnement d’écoute et
les conditions de mesure.
9Appuyez sur .
Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /et pour retirer la coche des
options que vous ne voulez pas mesurer.

10 Appuyez sur pour sélectionner « Start ».
11 La mesure commence en cinq secondes.









12 La mesure commence.
L’opération de mesure prend environ 30 secondes. Attendez
que l’opération de mesure se termine.
13 La mesure est terminée.
Lorsque la mesure se termine, un bip est émis et le résultat de
la mesure s’affiche sur l’écran du téléviseur.
Conseil
L’unité de distance affichée pour les modèles Etats-Unis et Canada est
le pied. L’unité de distance pour les modèles de pays/régions autres que
les Etats-Unis et le Canada est le mètre. Vous pouvez changer l’unité
de distance utilisée dans « Distance Unit » du menu de réglage Auto
Calibration.
14 Appuyez sur pour sélectionner « Next ».
15 Appuyez plusieurs fois sur /pour
sélectionner « �es », puis appuyez sur .
16 Appuyez plusieurs fois sur / pour sélectionner
le type de calibrage automatique, puis appuyez
sur .
Les résultats de la mesure sont sauvegardés.
Paramètre Explication
Full Flat Effectue la mesure de fréquence à courbe

Engineer Règle la fréquence sur une qui correspond à
celle de la norme de pièce d’écoute Sony.
Front Reference Ajuste les caractéristiques de toutes les

caractéristiques des enceintes avant.
OFF Désactive le calibrage automatique.
17 Appuyez sur RETURN/EXIT.
L’écran de démarrage de calibrage automatique s’affiche.
Lorsque des codes d’erreurs s’affichent
Lorsque « Auto calibration (auto speaker setup) complete, but an
issue occurred. Confirm Issue? » s’affiche sur l’écran du téléviseur
à l’étape 14, vous pouvez sélectionner de vérifier l’avertissement
(« Yes ») ou non (« No »). Suivez les instructions affichées sur
l’écran du téléviseur lorsque vous sélectionnez « Yes ». Pour plus
de détails sur les codes d’avertissement et d’erreurs, voir « Liste
des messages après une mesure de calibrage automatique » de
« 9: Calibrage automatique aux réglages appropriés (AUTO
CALIBRATION) » dans le mode d’emploi.
Remarque
Vous ne pouvez pas mesurer la hauteur d’enceinte des enceintes surround et des
enceintes surround arrière. Spécifiez cette valeur avec les réglages de position
surround dans le menu Auto Calibration.
Conseils
La taille d’une enceinte (LARGE/SMALL) est déterminée par les
caractéristiques basses. Il est possible que les résultats de mesure varient
selon la position du microphone d’optimisation et des enceintes, et la forme
de la pièce. Nous vous recommandons de suivre les résultats de mesure.
Vous pouvez toutefois changer ces paramètres dans le menu de réglage Auto
Calibration. Sauvegardez tout d’abord les résultats de mesure, puis essayez de
changer les paramètres si vous le désirez.
Appuyez sur de la télécommande lorsque « Please Press ENTER » s’affiche
sur l’écran du téléviseur.
Paramétrage d’autres appareils
Vous devez paramétrer chaque appareil de sorte que le son soit
sorti correctement des enceintes lorsque vous utilisez un appareil
raccordé. Le cas suivant décrit des appareils Sony. Reportez-vous
au mode d’emploi fourni avec chaque appareil.
Lecteur CD Super Audio Sony
Sélectionnez une plage de lecture adéquate (multicanaux ou 2
canaux). Il est possible que le son ne sorte que de l’enceinte avant
gauche/droit lorsque 2 canaux est sélectionné.
Lecteur DVD Sony
1Sélectionnez « AUDIO SETUP » sur l’affichage de
paramétrage du lecteur DVD.
2Réglez « AUDIO DRC » sur « WIDE RANGE ».
3Réglez « DIGITAL OUT » sur « ON ».
4Réglez « DOLB� DIGITAL » sur « DOLB� DIGITAL ».
5Réglez « DTS » sur « ON » ou « DTS ». (Sélectionnez
le paramètre en fonction du modèle)
Remarque
Paramétrez le format audio du disque à lire pour entendre le son multicanaux.
