XDP optimizes HPE SecureData for NonStop environments. It supports implementation within applications that cannot be
changed, via its Intercept Library. It also greatly simplifies the two SecureData APIs, and provides support for all NonStop
applications and OS environments, including native and non-native executables, and both Guardian and OSS.

Introduction
Welcome to the XYGATE®Data Protection™product software from XYPRO
Technology Corporation for the HPE NonStop server.
XDP was developed to allow legacy applications to be made Payment Card
Industry (PCI) compliant with no source-code changes required. XDP incorporates
world class multi-platform encryption technology from Voltage Security®, Inc. Voltage is
a leader in the encryption technology market, and its technology is used by many of
the world’s leading merchants and retailers.
XDP works by seamlessly intercepting application program calls to Guardian I/O
procedures and encrypting and unencrypting data “on the fly.” The application always
reads and writes unencrypted data.
Feature Highlights
This section describes the main features of the XYGATEDP software.
Easy to Maintain
As with all members of the XYGATE security family, XDP supports user profiles; that
is, ACLGroups. This permits users and aliases to be grouped by function, making the
manipulation of a user in the XDP system a single operation, rather than the
modification of multiple records.
Easy Definition of Files and Groups of Files
Encryption definitions for files are defined by creating FILEDEFs in the DPACL file.
Each file can be specified by its filename, or a regular expression can be used if you
want to specify a set of files that a FILEDEF applies to (that is, all of the files in a
subvolume). FILEDEFs are then used to construct DPGroups. The use of FILEDEFs
ensures that the encryption specification for a file has to be defined only once,
eliminating the possibility of accidentally creating multiple, incompatible file
specifications.
Easy to Configure the Application’s Files
XDP provides DPGroups in the DPACL file. DPGroups provide a way to easily group
user and program access specifications, XDP options and FILEDEFs together as one
entity.

Flexible Auditing of Activities
XDP provides an audit mechanism of activities occurring within an XDP system. The
auditing is flexible. You can audit all activity or selected activity to audit files, EMS or to
a TCP/IP address to an external event sink. Activity can be audited to multiple audit
files at the same time. The audit activity is fully integrated with the XYGATE Merged
Audit®(XMA) product software.
Both FPE and Stateless Tokenization Encryption Methods are Supported
XDP is shipped with Format Preserving Encryption (FPE) and stateless TOKEN
encryption methods already defined. You specify which encryption method should be
applied to fields in a record when you define the record’s layout in a FILEDEF.
Custom Encryption Methods are Supported
The default FPE and TOKEN encryption methods that are shipped with XDP have
parameter files that are modifiable if the default options provided are incorrect for the
application. It is also possible to define new encryption formats that have different
options in the parameter files, and it is also possible to define custom encryption
methods on the Voltage key server. All encryption methods must be registered in the
DPCONF file, and then they can be referenced in your FILEDEFs. XDP currently
supports up to 25-encryption methods.
COBOL85 Support
Non-CRE COBOL85 programs are fully supported, without having to bind-in the full
COBOL85 run time library.
XYGATEDP is Fault Tolerant
The XYGATEDP process runs as a NonStop process pair. This allows XYGATEDP to
keep running in the event of a CPU failure in which the XYGATEDP process is
executing.
Voltage Encryption Services can be Configured to Run in Parallel
The Voltage encryption service is configured as a Pathway server class so it is
possible to modify the as-shipped Pathway configuration to add additional server
processes and spread server processes across multiple CPUs. This allows higher
throughput when using multiple XDP-enabled application processes.
XDP Provides Testing Tools
XDP includes a What-if function to allow testing of file access rules before putting them
into production. What-if testing optionally writes entries in the audit file, which can be
reviewed using any of the report formats provided with XDP. This is explained in
Chapter 7, “What-if Testing.”

XDP Provides a Detailed Trace
Used only under the direction of XYPRO Support for testing/troubleshooting purposes,
XDP provides a detailed “trace” feature. This function captures each intercepted-
Guardian call made by an application program, with each input parameter listed, and
the final result of the call (condition code or error code) listed along with any output
parameters.
XYGATE Data Protection (XDP) Architecture
The following diagram shows the major components of XYGATEDP and its
relationship with the Voltage Key Server.
Starting in the top-left corner, there is an application that has the XDP Run Time
Library (RTL) attached. All of the Guardian I/O calls that the application makes are
intercepted by the XDP RTL. The XDP RTL accesses the DPACL/DPCONF files to get
necessary configuration information, it communicates with the encryption servers to
encrypt or decrypt data, and it communicates with the XYGATE process to
authenticate access to the Encrypted Customer Data. The XDP RTL invokes the

Guardian I/O routines before doing decryption (reading data) or after data has been
encrypted (writing data).
XYGATEDP is the monitor process; that is, it oversees and coordinates the activity of
the other XDP components. XYGATEDP audits system activity into the various audit
files shown.
There is one XDPCPU process running per CPU; XDPCPU maintains a memory
segment that is used to pass information to the XDP enabled programs that are
running in that CPU.
XDPCOM is a utility that is used to query and make changes to the XDP environment
by the XDP macros.
XDPENCR is the standalone encryption program. It is used when installing XDP to
encrypt the application’s data for XDP.
XDP Module Components
The XDP module contains the following components:
DPACL File – This is an edit file that contains security and encryption settings for the
application files that are being protected by XDP. There are three different types of
groups in the DPACL file: ACLGroups, DPGroups and ENCRYPTION_Groups.
DPCONF File – This is an edit file that configures global values and is kept in the
same volume and subvolume as the XYGATEDP object file. The DPCONF file
contains the keywords that define the external (global) functionality of the XDP
process.
Encryption Servers - These are Pathway servers that provide the encryption services
on behalf of the XDP Library.
Voltage Key Server - The Voltage key server is an appliance module from Voltage
Security, Inc. that is external to the HPE NonStop system. It provides various services
to the Encryption servers. Credit card data is never encrypted by the Voltage key
server.
XDP Library - This is a library that contains all user callable XDP functions. These
functions are the application’s interface to XDP. This library is attached to application
programs by a supplied macro.

XDPCOM - This is an interactive utility that is used for various purposes by the macros
provided with XDP. Do not run this utility unless instructed to do so by XYPRO
Support.
XDPCPU - A copy of XDPCPU runs in each CPU in the system. XPDCPU provides
information to the XDP Library and also provides the TRACE logging facility.
XDPENCR - A program that encrypts the contents of a file using the settings for the file
found in the DPACL file. Encrypting files is one of the necessary steps of the XDP
installation.
XYGATEDP - This is the XDP monitor process and is at the heart of XDP. The XDP
monitor process coordinates all of the XDP activity and provides various services to
the XDP Library.
XDP Configuration
XDP is configured with two configuration files called the DPACL and DPCONF files.
These are edit files that are similar in concept and purpose to the xxACL and xxCONF
files found in other XYGATE products. Refer to Chapter 2, “Configuring XDP” for more
information about the configuration procedures.

General Syntax Notation
The following list summarizes the notation conventions for syntax presentation in this
manual.
UPPERCASE LETTERS. Uppercase letters indicate keywords and reserved words;
enter these items exactly as shown. Items not enclosed in brackets are required. For
example:
MAXATTACH
< > Angle Brackets. A pair of matching angle brackets indicate variable items that you
supply but without the brackets. For example where the syntax of a function is stated
as:
RUN $<vol>.<subvol>.XMA INSTALL
and <vol>.<subvol> on your system is equal to $SYSTEM.XYGATEMA, then the
actual command will be as follows:
RUN $SYSTEM.XYGATEMA.XMA INSTALL
[ ] Brackets. Brackets enclose optional syntax items. For example:
TERM [\<system-name>.]$<terminal-name>

A group of items enclosed in brackets is a list from which you can choose one item or
none. The items in the list may be arranged either vertically, with aligned brackets on
each side of the list, or horizontally, enclosed in a pair of brackets and separated by
vertical lines. For example:

[ <text> ]
K [ X | D ] <address-1>
{ } Braces. A group of items enclosed in braces is a list from which you are required to
choose one item. The items in the list may be arranged either vertically, with aligned
braces on each side of the list, or horizontally, enclosed in a pair of braces and
separated by vertical lines. For example:

| Vertical Line. A vertical line separates alternatives in a horizontal list that is enclosed
in brackets or braces. For example:
INSPECT { OFF | ON | SAVEABEND }
… Ellipsis. An ellipsis immediately following a pair of brackets or braces indicates that
you can repeat the enclosed sequence of syntax items any number of times. For
example:
M <address-1> [ , <new-value> ]...
[ - ] {0|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9}...
An ellipsis immediately following a single syntax item indicates that you can repeat that
syntax item any number of times. For example:
"s-char..."
Punctuation. Parentheses, commas, semicolons, and other symbols not previously
described must be entered as shown. For example:
<error> := NEXTFILENAME ( <file-name> ) ;
LISTOPENS SU $<process-name>.#<su-name>
Quotation marks around a symbol such as a bracket or brace indicate the symbol is a
required character that you must enter as shown. For example:
"[" <repetition-constant-list> "]"
Item Spacing. Spaces shown between items are required unless one of the items is a
punctuation symbol such as a parenthesis or a comma. For example:
CALL STEPMOM ( <process-id> ) ;
If there is no space between two items, spaces are not permitted. In the following
example, there are no spaces permitted between the period and any other items:
$<process-name>.#<su-name>
Bolded text indicates user input for a given prompt(s) on the command line, keyboard
letters and symbols, and GUI radio and navigation buttons.
Plain italic typeface. Italic typeface indicates the full name of a document or title, a
verbatim screen name, or display and script text in command line actions.
