After correcting the original service problem, perform the following
safety checks before releasing the set to the customer:
1. Check the area of your repair for unsoldered or
poorly-soldered connections. Check the entire
board surface for solder splashes and bridges.
2. Check the interboard wiring to ensure that no
wires are “pinched’’ or contact high-wattage
resistors.
3. Look for unauthorized replacement parts, par-
ticularly transistors, that were installed during a
previous repair. Point them out to the customer
and recommend their replacement.

SELF-DIAGNOSIS DISPLAY
This unit displays the diagnosis contents of abnormalities and the mechanism mode on its display panel in 2-digit numbers.
These display shows the outline of the problems. Use it as a reference when servicing the unit.
1. Self-Diagnosis Contents and Mechanism Mode Display
¢ When the STOP button on the remote control is pressed for about 10 seconds continuously, the self- diagnosis number will be
displayed on the reception channel display of the display panel and number indicating the failed mechanism mode (changed
mode when being shifted) on the tape counter “seconds” display for 10 seconds each.
* During self-diagnosis display, displays other than the diagnosis number/mechanism mode number will be turned off and
when displays end, the normal display will be returned automatically.
¢ Refer to ‘Self-Diagnosis Contents” for the self-diagnosis numbers and the “Mechanism Mode Display Contents” for the
mechanism mode numbers.
« When the “0” button on the remote control unit is pressed during display, and clearing the self-diagnosis display and

1 Disconnect the aerial cable from your TV
and connect it to AERIAL IN on the rear
panel of the VCR.
2 Connect AERIAL OUT of the VCR to the
aerial input of your TV using the supplied
aerial cable.
3 Connect AC IN of the VCR to the mains
using the supplied mains lead.

Tuning the TV to
your VCR
If you have connected your VCR to
the TV using the EURO-AV cable,
skip this step.

Tuning the VCR to

1 Set the TV to the video channel:
¢ If the TV is connected to the VCR using
only the aerial cable, the TV should
already be set to the programme
position for the VCR.
e If the TV is connected to the VCR using
the EURO-AV cable, set the TV to video
input.
2 Vv o Open the front panel of the VCR and press

The VCR begins tuning in channels
automatically. When all the available
channels are tuned in, the channel in
programme position 1 is displayed.
To switch programme positions
If the allocation of TV channels to programme positions
does not match those on your TV, switch positions as
follows.
1 Open the front panel on the VCR and press TUNER
PRESET.
2 Press PROGRAM +/- to select the programme
position you want to switch.
3 Press the number buttons on the remote commander
to enter the other programme position.
4 Press EXECUTE on the remote commander.

Press & STOP.
To use the VCR after setting the timer
To use the VCR before a timer recording begins, just
press (). The TIMER indicator turns off and the VCR
switches on. Remember to press () to reset the VCR after
using the VCR.
You can also do the following tasks while the VCR is
recording:
¢ Reset the counter.
¢ Display tape information on the TV screen.
¢ Check the timer settings.
¢ Watch another TV programme.
To use the VCR connected to the EURO-AV input
In step 3, press INPUT SELECT to display "AV" instead of
selecting a programme position.
About PDC signals
The broadcast system may transmits PDC (Programme
Delivery Control) signals with its TV programmes. These
signals ensure that your timer recordings are made
regardless of broadcast delays, early starts or broadcast
interruptions. When setting the timer, make sure to enter
the start and stop times exactly as indicated in the TV
programme guide, otherwise the PDC function will not
work.
Tip
¢ To cancel the procedure, press VIDEO Plus+ before pressing
EXECUTE.
Notes
¢ When you press VIDEO Plus+, the following menus may
appear instead of the VIDEO Plus+ menu:
~ The clock setting menu appears if you need to set the clock.
~ The TIMER SET/CHECK menu appears if you have already
set Six programmes.
e When recording satellite broadcasts programmes, remember to
keep the tuner switched on until the VCR finishes recording.

@ REC
After starting recording in the normal way, you can
have the VCR stop recording automatically after a
specified duration.
1 While recording, press @ REC twice.
“STOP -- --” flashes.
2 Press @ REC repeatedly to set the duration.
Each press advances
the time in increments
of 30 minutes.
To check or extend the duration
Press @ REC once. The duration is displayed for 10
seconds. If you want to extend the time, press @ REC
within the 10 seconds to set to the new duration.
To stop recording
Press @ STOP.

the front panel, “L" is displayed in the display
window.
e Press TAPE SPEED to select the recording tape
speed (SP or LP).
1 Insert a source tape into the other (playback) VCR.
Search for the point to start playback and set to
playback pause.
2 Insert a tape into this (recording) VCR. Search for
the point to start recording and press If PAUSE.
3 Press @ REC on this VCR and set it to recording
pause.
4 Tostart editing, press the 1 PAUSE buttons on
both VCRs and release pause.
To stop editing
Press the STOP buttons on both VCRs.

Adjusting the tracking
Although the VCR automatically adjusts the tracking
when playing a tape, distortion may occur if the tape
was recorded in poor condition. If so, manually adjust
the tracking.
Press the ¥/4 TRACKING buttons to adjust to the
clearest picture. If you cannot get a clear picture
manually, press the AUTO TRACKING button to
return to automatic adjustment. In this case, the ATR
indicator flashes.
About "Trilogic" Optimum Picture
Control (OPC)
"Trilogic" Optimum Picture Control (OPC)
automatically improves recording and playback
quality by adjusting the VCR to the condition of the
video heads and tape. |
“Trilogic" OPC playback
The "Trilogic” OPC function automatically works on
all types of tapes, including rental tapes and tapes that
were not recorded with "Trilogic" OPC.
“Trilogic” OPC recording
Whenever you insert a tape and first start recording,
the VCR adjusts to the tape using the "Trilogic” OPC
function (the "Trilogic" OPC indicator on the VCR
flashes rapidly). This adjustment is retained until the
tape is ejected.
