Oryx. Please read and fully understand its contents
before assembling and riding your bike. Failure to do

Before you power up and pedal o
Check your tyres, test the brakes a d make sure that the baery is sucie tly
charged. There should ’t be a y rales or odd oises whe you start to ride

If your kids use your Oryx, please supervise them. These bikes are
powerful a d heavier tha a alogue bicycles, so they will ha dle a d

Always wear a helmet whe ridi g your Oryx a d e sure it ts well.
We recomme d usi g a quality helmet ma ufactured by a reputable
bra d. Usi g a low budget helmet to protect such a vital part of your
body makes zero se se.

Power down
Never work on your bike with the power on. Chan in tyre pressure,
xin a puncture, replacin an o chain or applyin chain lube should
only be done with the power o.
Check your tyres
Both front and rear wheels should be ti htly ed and tyres inflated to
the appropriate pressure
0.8 - 1.0 Bar for medium and hard surfaces
0.4 - 0.6 Bar for soft surfaces.
E-bike, not e-boat
Never ride your Oryx throu h fresh water deeper than the top of your
wheel rim. This will risk water enterin the electrical system, which
can cause severe dama e and could potentially cause injury
to riders.
Avoid salt water at all costs
Never ride your Oryx throu h salt water — it is hi hly corrosive and
detrimental to all e-bike parts and frames, as well as the electrical
system. So, when ridin on the beach, do not let your bike come into
contact with sea water.

start guide
Get set
Set your seat to the correct ridi g height.
The ge eral rule of thumb is that whe your leg
is at full exte sio , there should still be a slight
be d i your k ee with your pedal at 5 ‘o clock,
ot dead boom.
Get powered up
Switch o your Oryx by pushi g a d holdi g the
power buo o your display scree . Your bike
will e gage pedal assist i either level zero or 1
by default. Start cycli g o level 1 a d i crease
pedal assista ce power levels thereafter.
Get going
Start pedalli g with your legs or use your
throle buo briefly to gai some mome tum.
Power will ot be supplied to the motor if you
stop pedalli g or if you hit the brakes.
Get into gear
Your Oryx’s geari g ca be cha ged o the
right-ha d side of the ha dlebar by usi g the
rapid re paddles. Pushi g the fro t paddle will
e gage lower gears — maki g it easier to ride
up hills. Co versely, depressi g the rear paddle
will e gage higher gears, suitable for flaer,
faster ridi g.

The top buon will increase the level of
pedal assisted speed (PAS). The maximum
level is 5

hold the top uon for a couple of seconds
to switch the light on and o.

Using the
display screen
The three uons on the left will allow you to toggle the display
etween your current PAS level, aery level, current speed and
the power the motor is currently using.

The middle buon is the power switch.
Press and hold this uon for the screen
and e- ike to switch on.
This uon can also e used to view the
total time, total distance, max speed and
average speed.

The boom buon will decrease the level
of PAS. If you want to cycle with the PAS
functionality o, select level 0
Your Oryx has a thum throle. However,
pressing and holding the oom uon on
the display will activate "walk assist", which
is the same as using the thum throle.

Cleaning and
maintenance
Keepi g your Oryx clea a d well mai tai ed is esse tial
to years of trouble-free ridi g.
Keep it clean.
Clea your bike whe its dirty usi g a damp
cloth, mild deterge t a d a scrubbi g brush
for the drive chai .
Avoid usi g excessive water arou d the
baery area, display scree , electrical
co ectio s a d har esses. High pressure
sprayers are a big no-no.
Keep it in good nick
Your Oryx will require regular mai te a ce
over time, which may i clude replaci g brake
pads, wor sprockets, chai s or cassees,
a d adjusti g the cables as they stretch.
Mai te a ce ca be do e by a y reputable
bike outlet or service ce tre.
Keep it running smoothly
Apply chai lubrica t to your bike’s chai
after every wash. You ca buy purpose-
specic solve ts for clea i g old chai
lubrica t o your derailleur, cassee a d
chai o li e or from your local bike outlet.
Keep to accredited agents only
A y required mai te a ce to your Oryx’s
electrical system (display scree , baery,
motor, throle, co trol u it, various se sors
or a y wiri g) should o ly be performed by
a accredited Southbou d age t.

Check your baery status
The baery charger light will shine red if the baery
is still charging and change to green when it has
f lly charged.
Charge before you ride
Ens re yo r baery is f lly charged before starting
yo r ride
Check that the r bber cap is properly inserted back
into the charging port before yo ride. This will
prevent any moist re and water from entering yo r
bikes electrical system and potentially damaging it.
Baery storage
If yo do not plan to se yo r Oryx will for three
weeks or longer, it is preferable to store yo r bike
with the baery partially charged.
Limit your ride time
Limit yo r ride time so that yo r baery does not
drop below 20% capacity.

Baery performance
Your bike’s b ery c rries tremendous mount of power,
but it isn’t innite. B ery consumption will v ry ccording
to the following m in f ctors:
Terrain
Muddy or s ndy terr in will use lot more
power th n h rd, smooth surf ces.
Distance
Longer rides use more power th n
shorter rides.
Level of pedal assistance (PAS)
Level 5 PAS will use lot more power th n
riding in PAS 1 or 2.
Topography
The steeper the climb, the more power
will be used.
Rider weight
Weight h s n imp ct on power.
Lighter riders will h ve more powe

How it works
The Southbound limited warranty covers
manufacturing faults in materials or
workmanship on all new e-bikes in
possession of the original owner, from the
date of purchase.
For valid warranty claims that occur within
the rst 14 days from date of purchase,
Southbound will cover the reasonable cost
of labour involved in rectifying the fault.
After the 14 day free labour repair period,
the owner will be responsible for the
labour costs associated with warranty
replacements.

Any parts to be replaced
to rectify a valid warranty
claim will be shipped to the
customer or bike dealer by
Southbound.

remedy provided is limited to t e
replacement part or component, and if
applicable, t e labour cost as described in
our 14 days free labour period.
Sout bound will in no way be liable for any
consequential, incidental or ot er costs or
damages including but not limited to
damages for personal injury, property
damage or economic losses, w et er based
on contract, warranty, negligence, product
liability or any ot er t eory.
Wear and tear from ordinary use
Damage to the frame, components
or electrical system resulting from
improper use.
Damage resulting from operating the
bike outside of the maximum
recommended parameters as per the
detailed spec sheet in this manual.
Water damage from riding or washing
your e-bike
Damage as a result of failing to
maintain your bike as suggested
in this manual.

G worn brake pads5
G chains — expect to replace chains every 1 500 km approx. (depending on rider weight
PAS levels and riding conditions)5
G chain wheels, sprockets, boom brackets, derailleur hangers and jockey wheels5
G sliding bearings and other bearings5
G lights and lighting systems5
G broken kickstands5
G worn handlebar grips5
G replacement hydraulic oils and lubricants5
G gear shift and brake cables5
G paint and parts nishes e.g. scratches and dents5
G rust to the frame, rims and drive train resulting from improper use and maintenance5
G baery management systems (BMS) that have fused or shorted resulting from power
surges or load shedding. We strongly recommend using a surge arrestor to protect
the BMS5
G cracked frames or carriers damaged resulting from improper use, e.g. seat post shims not
inserted properly or exceeding carrying capacity of racks.
