Install the Mainboard

Step 1. Install the CPU
Mark your CPU Frequency:

thatshouldbeclearlymarkedontheCPUcover.

Step 2. Make Connections to the Mainboard
Thissectiontellshowtoconnectinternalperipheralsandpowersupplytothemainboard.
InternalperipheralsincludeIDEdevices(HDD,CD-ROM),FloppyDiskDrive,Chassis Fan,
FrontPanelDevices(TurboLED,InternalSpeaker,ResetButton,IDELED,and KeyLock
Switch.),Wake-On-LANcard,VGAcard,SoundCard,andotherdevices.

manualonCD-ROM.
Connectors and Plug-ins
PCI Audio Card Header: SB-Link™(PC-PCI) Wake-On-LAN Header: JP44
Connect the SB-Link™(PC-PCI) cable from your
PCI audio card to this header. Connect the WOL cable from
your LAN card to JP44.
CPU Cooling Fan: CPUFAN Chassis Fan: CHAFAN
Connect the CPU cooling fan cable to the
CPUFAN power connector. Connect the case cooling fan cable to the
CHAFAN power connector.
USB TB LED SPK
Plug your USB devices
to this header. Connect your Turbo LED
cable to this header. Connect the speaker cable to
this header.
RESET IDE LED KB-LOCK
Connect the reset button
to this header. Connect the IDE device
LED to this header. Connect the Power LED and
the KB Lock switch to this
header.
IrDA (Infrared Device Header): IR1
Connect the cable from your IrDA device to this header.
ATX Power On/Off: PWRBT ATX Power Supply: ATX PW
Connect your power switch to this header
(momentary switch type).
Depending on the BIOS setting, turning off
the system is done by “one touch”or by
pressing the switch for >4s longer than 4s.
Attach the ATX Power cable to this
connector.
When using the PS/2 Keyboard
Wake-Up function, please make
sure the ATX power supply can
take at least 720mA load on the 5V
Standby lead (5VSB) to meet the
standard ATX specifications.

Step 3. Configure Memory
YourboardcomeswiththreeDIMMsockets,providingsupportforupto384MBofmain
memoryusingDIMMmodulesfrom8MBto128MBwithnorestrictiononmemory
configuration.Therefore,youcaninstallmemorymodulesinanycombination.
For66MHzfrontsidebusCPUsuse12nsorfastermemory.

Notice 1: Only install 3.3V EDO DIMM modules on this mainboard; other voltages are
not supported by the SY-6KE mainboard.
Notice 2: Do not install EDO types of DIMM when you already use SDRAM.
Step 4. Set the CPU Frequency
YoudonotneedtosetanyjumperfortheCPUfrequency.Instead,CPUsettingarechanged
throughtheBIOS[CHIPSETFEATURESSETUP].Pleasereferto Chapter3-QuickBIOS
SetupfordetailsonhowtosetthePentium
®
IIprocessorfrequency.
Step 5. Enable/Disable PS/2 Keyboard Wake-Up (JP10)
YoucanchoosetoenabletheWake-UpbyPS/2KeyboardorMousefunctionbyshorting
pin1-2onjumperJP10,otherwise,shortpin2-3todisablethisfunction.

Step 6. Clear CMOS Data (JP5)
CleartheCMOSmemorybymomentarilyshortingpin2-3onjumperJP5foratleast5
seconds,andthenbyshortingpin1-2toretainnewsettings. Thisjumpercanbeeasily
identifiedbyitswhitecoloredcap.
CMOS Clearing Clear CMOS Data Retain CMOS Data (Default)
JP5 Setting Short pin 2-3 for
at least 5 seconds
to clear the CMOS.
Short pin 1-2 to
retain the new
settings.
Note: You must unplug the ATX power cable from the ATX power connector when
performing the CMOS Clear operation.

Quick BIOS Setup
ThismainboarddoesnotuseanyhardwarejumperstosettheCPUfrequency.Instead,
CPUsettingsaresoftwareconfigurablewiththeBIOS
[CHIPSETFEATURESSETUP].
Afterthehardwareinstallationiscomplete,turnthepowerswitchon, thenpress the
<DEL>
key
duringthesystemdiagnostic checksto entertheAwardBIOSSetupprogram.The CMOS
SETUPUTILITYwilldisplayonscreen.Then,followthesestepsto configurethe CPUsettings.
Step 1. Select [LOAD SETUP DEFAULT]
Selectthe“LOADSETUPDEFAULT”menuandtype “Y”attheprompttoloadtheBIOS
optimalsetup.
Step 2. Select [STANDARD CMOS SETUP]
Set[Date/Time]and[Floppydrivetype],thenset[Hard DiskType]to “Auto”.
Step 3. Select [CHIPSET FEATURES SETUP]
Movethecursortothe
[CPUSpeed]
fieldtosettheCPUfrequency.
Available[CPUSpeed]settingsonyourSY-6KE Mainboardaredetailedinthefollowing
table.Ifyousetthisfieldto[Manual],youarethenrequiredtofillinthenexttwoconsecutive
fields:(1)the[CPUHostClock],and(2)the[CPURatio].

Select the working frequency of your
Pentium®
II processor among these
preset values.
Note: Mark the checkbox that
corresponds to the working frequency of
your Pentium®
II processor in case the
CMOS configuration should be lost.
Step 4. Select [SAVE & EXIT SETUP]
Press
<Enter>
tosavethenewconfigurationtotheCMOSmemory,andcontinuetheboot
sequence.

containstheuser'smanualfileforyournewmainboard,the driverssoftwareavailablefor
installation,andadatabaseinHTMLformatwithinformationonSOYO mainboardsand
otherproducts.
Step 1. Insert the SOYO CD into the CD-ROM drive
TheSOYOCDwillauto-run,andtheSOYOCDStartUpMenuwilldisplayasshownbelow.

Document)format.InordertoreadaPDFfile,theappropriateAcrobatReadersoftware
mustbeinstalledinyoursystem.
Note:
TheStartUpprogramautomaticallydetectsiftheAcrobatReaderutilityisalready
presentinyoursystem,andotherwisepromptsyouonwhetherornotyouwanttoinstallit.
YoumustinstalltheAcrobatReaderutilitytobeabletoreadtheuser'smanualfile.Follow
theinstructionsonyourscreenduringinstallation,thenoncetheinstallationiscompleted,
restartyoursystemandre-runtheSOYOCD.

Clickthe
Install Drivers
buttontodisplaythelistof driverssoftwarethatcanbeinstalledwith
yourmainboard.TheStartUpprogramdisplaysthedriversavailablefortheparticularmodel
ofmainboardyouown.Werecommendthatyouonlyinstallthosedrivers.
However,todisplaythe listofall driverssoftwareavailable withSOYO mainboards,clickthe
DisplayalldriversontheSOYOCD
button.Pleasemakesuretoinstallonlythedrivers
adaptedtoyoursystem,orotherwisethiscausesystemmalfunctions.

Note:
Onceyouhaveselectedadriver,thesystemwillautomaticallyexittheSOYOCDto
beginthedriverinstallationprogram.Whentheinstallationiscomplete,mostdriversrequire
torestartyoursystembeforetheycanbecomeactive.
Step 4. Enter the SOYO CD
Clickthe
EnterSOYO CD
buttontoentertheSOYOHTMLdatabase.TheStartUp
programwillactivatethedefaultHTMLbrowserinstalledonyoursystem(forexample,
InternetExplorerorNetscape)tovisualizethecontentsoftheSOYOCD.
TheSOYOCDcontainsusefulinformationaboutyourmainboardandotherSOYOproducts
availableinasmanyaselevendifferentlanguages.Foryourconvenience,thisinformationis
availableinHTMLformat,similartotheformatwidelyusedontheInternet.
