Battery Function Lithium-ion (Li-ion)
Unlike nickel or lead-based batteries, Li-ion battery packs do not need cycling
through charging and discharging. Such cycling will make little difference because
the maximum capacity of Li-ion is available right from the beginning. Neither will
a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded battery pack.
A lithium-ion battery in typically use, lasts between 2-3 years and provides 300-
500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full
discharge. In fact, where possible it is better to avoid full discharges, instead
charge the battery more often.
•
With a Li-ion battery there is no concern of developing "memory" when applying
unscheduled charges.
•
Avoid high charge levels and elevated temperatures; as this will hasten permanent capacity
loss.
The worst condition is keeping a fully charged battery at an elevated temperature,
try to avoid leaving batteries in your car or other areas which may over heat,
even so the battery pack will not die suddenly, loss becomes evident as reduced
run-times.
Long term storage: wherever possible store lithium-ion batteries in a cool place
(10°C to 25°C do not freeze) at about a 40% state-of-charge
