DYNO PREAMP SERIES
Congratulations on your new Dyno Stagebox Preamp! Please ta e a moment to
review these important setup directions.
CONNECTIONS:
RHODES STAGE PIANO (All models)
Using a ¼” instrument cable, connect your piano’s “OUTPUT” jac to the
“INPUT” jac on top of your new Spea easy Preamp.
Using another ¼” instrument cable, connect the “OUTPUT” jac of your new
Spea easy Preamp to your external amplifier (Fender Twin, PA, etc.).
Turn all the preamp’s controls fully counter-cloc wise, and then turn on your
preamp and your amplifier, in that order.
RHODES SUITCASE PIANO (All models)
Using a ¼” instrument cable, connect your piano’s “ACCESSORY 1” jac to
the “INPUT” jac on top of your new Spea easy Preamp.
Using another ¼” instrument cable, connect the “OUTPUT” jac of your new
Spea easy Preamp to your piano’s “ACCESSORY 2” jac .
Turn all the preamp’s controls fully counter-cloc wise, and then turn on your
preamp and piano, in that order.
EFFECTS (phaser/chor s, wah wah, echo, etc.)
If you use effects for your piano, you should connect them so that they are
between the piano’s output (Accessory 1 jac on suitcase models) and the
Dyno Stagebox Preamp’s input jac .
INITIAL SETTINGS
STAGE: Turn the “Bass Boost” and “Volume” controls to maximum.
SUITCASE: Set your “Bass” to “0” and the “Treble” to maximum. Adjust the
“Volume” to a suitable level.
At the factory, your preamp was calibrated so that with the “Normal” nob set
to 10 (fully cloc wise) and the output level (red nob) set to 80%, the
preamp’s output level and tone would be exactly the same as it’s input level
and tone. Not all Rhodes pianos are the same, especially if it has not been
restored, so you should verify this by setting the controls as described and
chec ing your piano for normal volume and tone color.

Now, it’s “Dyno” time!
For the full effect, turn the “Normal” nob fully counter-cloc wise again.
Now turn the “Treble” nob to a position between 12:00 and 2:00. Now when
you play you can really hear the overtones jump out.
Now add a little “Bass” by tuning the “Bass” nob up to about the 9:00
position, or higher. Be conservative, this preamp pac s a punch.
You can add some “Normal” bac in if you wish, but most players prefer the
pure “Dyno” controls alone.
Once you have the controls set to your li ing have a blast, but if you notice
any distortion simply turn down the red nob until it goes away.
SPECIAL NOTE ON LOCATION
On each of the Rhodes we tested, we found that placing the preamp on top of
the piano did NOT introduce any hum or noise. However, if you should
experience a hum, simply relocate the preamp away from the top of the
piano.
The Rhodes piano has a row of pic up coils (one coil for each ey) that can
act li e an antenna.
This effect is well nown among technicians and players ali e and can ma e it
impossible to place any electronic gear on top of the piano, even the ones
that have the “Flat Top”. If your piano happens to be one of the more
sensitive ones, relocating the preamp is really the only solution.
VIBRATO (optional)
Those who have the Vibrato option will have 3 additional controls.
SPEED – Controls the LFO frequency and therefore the vibrato “rate”
INTENSITY – Controls the vibrato “depth”
ON/OFF – On pedal models this will be a footswitch, on Rac models it is a
toggle switch with an optional footswitch jac . In both cases the function is
the same, it acts to engage or bypass the effect.
On rac models a latching type footswitch is recommended.
