General introduction
Before you start using the Caddy³ please, please read these instructions carefully. You
should examine all possibilities and limitations of your Caddy³.
Dear User,
The Caddy³ is a product of Special Mobility. Special Mobility products have undoubtedly
proven themselves over the years. You have chosen a quality product. This manual will
help you get acquainted with your transport means. Please read the instructions
completely before you start using this Transport Unit.
Among other here described the base frame and accessories and the operation and some
notes to take to heart. The safety instructions in this guide are general guidelines that
must be seen as broad guidelines.
You will find in this manual includes a detailed description of all the features of your
Caddy³. Repairs require the knowledge of an expert. We advise you to repairs and
maintenance, conducted by an expert.

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
1.1 Structure and description
The Caddy³ consists two basic models: Caddy³ and Caddy³ self-propelled. Both models
are equipped with various components and parts shown in the illustration below. It may
be that your Caddy³ includes options and accessories that are not shown on the sample
drawing. However, this comes naturally to you while reading this manual. The Caddy³ is
not suitable for the transport of persons with a pressure ulcer disease. The materials
which come into contact with the coated skin are not curative or preventative. The
Caddy³ is extremely stable and robust, the Caddy³ is suitable for intensive use. The
movable parts are not removable. The Caddy³ has a safety brake (brakes if the brake is
released). The self-propelled model Caddy³ is additionally equipped with Tyre brakes.
The Caddy³ is designed for:
People weighing up to 150 kg.
Short-term transport of persons (max 2 hours)
Use on flat and paved surface
If provided with clutch (accessory) can be transported more Caddy in a row.
If provided with a coupling (accessory), the Caddy³ can be coupled electrically
powered by a Caddy e-Move.

1.5 Indications on the Caddy³
The Caddy³ Transport Chair is equipped with an identification sticker.
The identification sticker is located on the rear side of the receiving tube
from the armrests. This is to find the contact details of the manufacturer and serial
number of the Caddy³.
Below is an example of important stickers.
The markings, symbols and instructions are part of the safety provisions.
They may not be covered or removed. They have to remain seated during
the lifetime of the Caddy³ and are clearly legible.

1.7 Approval
The product meets the following requirements:
1 EN 12183: 2009 Hand moved Wheelchairs- Requirements and test methods.
2 EN 12182 Tools for people with disabilities -General requirements and test methods.
3 EN ISO 14971: 2012 Medical Tools- Application risk medical devices.
1.8 CE declaration
The product complies with the provisions of the Medical Devices Directive and therefore
bears the CE mark.

1:10 Used Caddy³ and the environment
If your Caddy³ superfluous or needs to be replaced, it can usually be taken back by the
manufacturer. If this is not possible, ask your local authority about the possibilities for
reuse or environment friendly processing of the materials used. For the production of the
wheelchair is made use of various types of plastics and metals.
2. SAFETY
2.1 General Safety
Special Mobility bv imposes no liability for injury or damage caused by failure to strictly
adhere to the safety or by carelessness during the use and cleaning of the Caddy³ and
possible accessories. The Caddy³ is if the instructions for use as described in this manual
are followed, highly reliable and stable.
Contact the manufacturer directly if you observe a potential danger during the use of the
wheelchair.
The user of the wheelchair is at all times fully responsible for compliance with
local safety regulations and guidelines.
Modification of the wheelchair is not allowed.
The technical specifications may be changed.
The Caddy e-Move may only be operated by persons who are suitably trained.
2.2 Warnings for safe use
Use the Caddy³ not on streets or highways.
Do not use your Caddy³ on sand, rugged terrain, wet and slippery surfaces or
surfaces with low grip.

or developed for the transport of the Caddy³ at your own risk. We accept no

3 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3.1 Checks before using
For transportation:
Check the operation of the brake
Check for defects such as loose parts
Check whether the freewheeling clamp is not activated (accessory).
If deviations are detected, put the caddy³ separately,
attach a note with the description of the defect and inform your supervisor.
3.2 Precautions during transportation
During the ride:
Keep hands and arms of the person being transported always within
the range of the arm rests.
Keep the feet of the person being transported always on the footplate
Stay alert during the ride on limbs which project beyond the contours of the
Caddy³. This is to prevent crushing.
3.3 Transfer
Step 1: The armrest placed down and the foot plate up. Collide with the seat at a small
distance from the knee.

Step 2: The brake must be activated. From standing position to sitting position,

3.4 security during transport

3.5 Going up and down sidewalks and uneven surfaces
The following method is for when the wheelchair is pushed by an attendant and gives the
user a feeling of security.
Going up the pavement / uneven surface
1. The attendent must place the Caddy³ forward for the sidewalk. The attendant must
pull the push tube (Figure 1 and 2 no.8) to himself while placing the foot on the tilting
mechanism (Figure 1 and 2 no.10).
2. Push the Caddy³ on the sidewalk or increase until the rear wheels touch the curb, now
let loose the tilt mechanism.
3. Lift the Caddy³ with push tube over the hurdle.
Going down the pavement / uneven surface
1 Always go backwards down the pavement so that the Caddy³ can not lean
over tilt so the user could fall out of the wheelchair.
2 Never go without a attendent down the sidewalk.
3.6 Slopes
Inspect the slope always on risks such as holes or slippery and uneven surfaces before
setting off or driving. If you can not see the slope, ask someone to inspect it for you.
Climbing hills
Never ride on a slope with a gradient of more than 8 degrees.
The Caddy³ is on a slope less stable.
The supervisor who Caddy³ moves must keep pushing to prevent the Caddy³ own
initiative driving.
Put the Caddy³ on the brake (brake lever release) if there is no or insufficient pushed.
Driving down a slope
The Caddy³ will drive down the slope by itself when the brake lever is operated.
Prevent the wheelchair gets too high a speed.
The attendent can slow the wheelchair down by releasing the brake handle.
When stopped on a slope, the brake handle can be pushed slightly forward. This creates
additional braking force.
Warning:
Never drive with your Caddy³ of stairs or escalator.

3.7 Other warnings:
Drive carefully on slippery roads, resulting from rain, ice or snow.
Prevent the wheelchair from coming into contact with sea water: sea water is
caustic and may damage the wheelchair.
Prevent the wheelchair from coming into contact with sand: sand can permeate
into the moving parts of the wheelchair, causing unnecessary fast wear.
Do not put the wheelchair in direct sunlight, the coating may be too hot causing
burning or skin sensitization can occur.
If you are under the influence of substances which affect driving ability, do not
drive the wheelchair.
You must have sufficient eyesight to safely use the wheelchair to ride.
Take care of loose garments. These could come between the wheels.
3.8 Connecting Caddy³ (accessory)
If the Caddy³ is equipped with connectors (Figure 3), the Caddy³ can be coupled with
another Caddy³, so they can be moved in a row ).
The Caddy³ can also be coupled to an electrically driven
Caddy e-Move. Refer to the manual of the e-Caddy Move.

connected. Special mobility accepts no responsibility if other connectors
than connectors produced by Special Mobility are arranged.
3.9 Education / Qualification
The Caddy³ should only be operated by personnel who have had instruction.
Special Mobility organizes training of staff personnel training other personel.
4 Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the wheelchair

4.2 Maintenance Interval
The maintenance interval depends on the deployed hours.

service.
Every six months there should be an inspection performed.

6 WARRANTY
Warranty provision:
In the warranty and liability provisions the following terms have the meanings as
summed up:
Product: manufactured by Special Mobility and delivered Caddy³
Customer: The person who directly Special Mobility example of a product.
Dealer: The person who delivers a Special Mobility of product concerned to third
parties.
User: one who uses a product manufactured by Special Mobility.
Irrespective of what is determined concerning warranty in the general conditions
applicable to the product, apply with respect to these guarantees at least the following:
1. Except insofar as the following provisions otherwise stated, state Special Mobility
towards the customer of the product for its performance for the purpose for which the
product is intended - all of these points as described in this manual - and the quality of
the material from which the product is made and the manner in which the Product has
been manufactured.

2. Repair or replace components of the Product which is required as a result of faults that
are caused is performed free of charge in faulty materials or workmanship, provided that
such faults occurred within one (1) year from the date of delivery of the Product the
Customer. The parts to be replaced are replaced by Special Mobility.
Disassembly or assembly of these parts shall be borne by Special Mobility. Not for free
repair or replacement referred to in the previous sentence are therefore excluded:
the repair or replacement that is necessary in connection with faults that arise
after one (1) year after the date of delivery of the product to the Customer;
the repair or replacement that is necessary in connection with faults that are
caused by improper or careless use of the Product or which are caused by a use of
the Product for purposes other than for which it is intended, will be in what
context apply that if the Customer is a Dealer, this Dealer Special Mobility will
safeguard against possible claims from Users or other third parties for faults which
are caused by improper or careless use of the Product;
parts subject to wear and the need for repair or replacement of the parts is the
actual consequence of normal wear.
3. Notwithstanding subparagraph shall apply with respect to any electrical product, which
with respect to the battery that forms part of the Product warranty is only given in case
of faults or non-functioning of the battery that are demonstrably the direct consequence
of material - or manufacturing defects. A fault or non-functioning of the battery as a
result of normal wear is not covered by the warranty referred to in this warranty.
Similarly not covered by the warranty are faults or non-functioning that are the result of
improper or unprofessional use of the Product or the battery that is part, including the
incorrect charging of the battery and the failure of letting carry out timely and proper
maintenance, in which context it also applies that if the Customer is a Dealer, this Dealer
Special Mobility will safeguard against possible claims from Users or other third parties
which are caused by the above mentioned improper or unprofessional use of the Product
or the battery that is part.
4. The guarantees expire as mentioned in above stipulations in any case if:
no or insufficient effect to the guidelines of Special Mobility for allowing
maintenance of the Product
A necessary repair or replacement of parts is based on neglect, damage or abuse
of the product or use of the Product for purposes other than for which it is
intended
