The SM-8 is a standalone DMX Control Station with
eight programmable scenes with built-in fade times.
It is a master controller and is wall mountable. Each
SM-8 can connect to up to five additional Satellite
Stations (SS-8s) for added control points around your
facility.
Once programmed, SM-8s can operate alone or
with a lighting console. When using a lighting
console, the SM-8 goes in the line of DMX between
the console and the lights and becomes inoperable
when it senses DMX data from the console. This
allows the facility to use the SM-8 for everyday use
and a lighting console for events and services.
SM-8 Stations are static DMX scene recorders and
can not be used to capture sequences.

Mounting
Connecting
Power Supply
Connect the SM-8 and SS-8 as shown below. Attention audio people: DMX is backwards from
audio. Pin 2 is negative and pin 3 is positive. Most of the time pin 2 will be a white wire and
sometimes it will be red. Pin 3 will always be black.
The SM-8 and SS-8 come with a single gang mud ring. They will not fit in a standard single gang
box. Should you need to mount in a metal in-closed handy box please use a Raco 670RAC box
(pictured here, not included).
Before plugging your unit in, be sure the source voltage in your area matches the voltage
required for your lighting setup. Because line voltage may vary from venue to venue, be
sure your unit voltage matches the wall outlet voltage before attempting to operate. The
Springtree Wall Station uses a standard 12V power supply (provided with the SM-8). The
power for the SS-8 units are provided by the SM-8 via CAT5.

Safety
Troubleshooting
1. Do not expose this unit to moisture to reduce the risk of electrical shock or fire.
2. Be sure that the local power outlet matches the required voltage for your unit.
3. Do not attempt to operate this unit if the power cord has been frayed or
broken. Do not attempt to remove or break off the ground prong from the
electrical cord. This prong is used to reduce the risk of electrical shock and fire
in case of an internal short.
4. Disconnect from main power before making any type of connection.
5. This fixture is intended for indoor use ONLY!
1. Check that the 12V power supply is plugged in and connected to the SM-8.
2. Check that the DMX cables are connected properly and are wired correctly.
3. Is the SM-8 receiving DMX from the controller? DMX from the controller will
override the SM-8.
4. Many computers running lighting software will continuously send out a DMX
signal, making your Wall Station inoperable. Shutting down and closing out your
lighting software should solve this problem. If, you want to keep your computer
up and running while using Wall Stations, we offer a Console Toggle Switch.
Console Toggle Switches allow you to manually switch control back-and-forth
between your computer and Wall Station.
