1 Safety Instructions
1.1 Instructions Concerning the Operators Guide
Knowledge of the basic safety instructions is a prerequisite for the safe handling and successful op-
eration of the device.
These operating instructions comprise the necessary information to operate the device in a safe
manner.
These operating instructions, and in particular the safety information, must be observed by everyone
working on the device. Furthermore, all rules and regulations for accident prevention that are valid at
the installation site must be complied with.
The operating instructions can on no account, replace thorough training and familiarization. It can
only support the latter.
The dealer from whom you purchased your AccubindPro2 will gladly provide you with information re-
garding training for:
•Operation
•Maintenance

In this manual, the following symbols are used:

1.3 Intended Use
The AccuBindPro2 is a binding and back stripping device for pads, pamphlets, catalogues and
calendars with a spine length of DIN A5, DIN A4, and 11“.
Bindings may comprise of 5 sheets (with covers) to 330 sheets of 80 g/m² paper. Binding thickness
may be maximum 1.3” (33 mm).
NOTE:
Optimal results will be achieved using minimum of 5 sheets of paper, 20 lb - 32 lb (80 -120 gsm)
bond, with front and back covers of 60 lb - 90 lb (162 gsm - 200 gsm) cover stock.
The device may exclusively be used for the applications described above. Any other use or use be-
yond the one described shall be considered as not being in accordance with the instructions or the
intended use. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any damages resulting from this. The risk shall
be borne by the user himself. Use in accordance with the instructions and for the intended use also
includes compliance with the operating instructions and keeping to service and maintenance work
schedules.
1.4 Warranty and Liability
Guarantee and liability claims in case of human injury or material damage are ruled out if they can be
traced back to one or more of the following causes:
•Use of the device that is not in accordance with the intended use.
•Improper assembly, start-up, operation and maintenance of the device.
•Operating the device with defective and/or inoperable safety and protective devices.
•Non-compliance with the information in the operating instructions with regard to transport, stor-
age, assembly, start-up, operation and maintenance of the device.
•Unauthorized constructional changes to the device.
•Unauthorized changes to the working conditions (performance ...).
•Inadequate monitoring of system components that are subject to wear.
•Improperly executed repairs.
•Disasters caused by the effects of foreign bodies and force majeure.
1.5 Main Operator Responsibilities
The main operator should only allow persons to work on the device who:
•Have acquainted themselves with the regulations regarding occupational safety and the preven-
tion of accidents and who have been instructed in handling the device.
•Have read and understood the safety chapter and the warning instructions in this operation
manual.
1.6 Personnel responsibilities
Persons, who are assigned to work on this machine, commit themselves to:
•Comply with the regulations regarding occupational safety and prevention of accidents.
•Have read and understood the safety chapter and the warnings contained in these warning in-
structions before working on this machine for the first time.

1.7 Dangers when Handling the Device
The AccuBindPro2 has been designed in accordance with the state-of-the-art and approved safety
rules. Dangers may nevertheless arise for the user or third parties if the device is not used in accor-
dance with the instructions or for another than the intended use. It is also possible for the device or
other material assets to be damaged. Defects that may affect safety must be rectified immediately.
The device may only be used:
•For the intended use;
•In a technically safe faultless condition.
1.8 Organizational Measures
Necessary personal protective equipment has to be provided by the operator. All available safety de-
vices have to be regularly checked before work commences.
1.9 Informal Safety Measures
The operating instructions have to be kept at the device’s site of operation all the time.
Supplementary to the operating instructions, general as well as local regulations for the prevention of
accidents and environmental protection have to be made available and have to be complied with.
All safety and danger information has to be maintained in a legible condition.
1.10 Training of Personnel
Only instructed personnel may work on the device. Personnel to be instructed may only work on the
device under the supervision of an experienced person.
Personnel responsibilities for assembly, start-up, operation, maintenance and repair have to be
clearly defined.
1.11 Dangers as a Result of Electrical Energy
Work on the electrical equipment of the device may only be carried out by a trained electrician or in-
structed persons under the guidance and supervision of a trained electrician in accordance with elec-
tro technical rules.
The device’s electrical equipment has to be checked on a regular basis. Loose connections and
scorched cables have to be removed immediately.
Defective fuses may only be replaced with approved spare parts of equal specification.

1.12 Special Danger Areas
WARNING!
There are hot surfaces within the working area (approx. 290°F / 143 °C).
There is danger of getting burned!
Do not use any flammable liquids near the hot device.
WARNING!
There is danger of getting squeezed in the area of the clamping
jaws.
1.13 Maintenance, Servicing, Troubleshooting
This device requires operator maintenance. If any malfunctions occur while working with the de-
vice, please consult “Chapter 6 - Troubleshooting” regarding the reasons for the malfunction and
possible corrective action.
If malfunctions occur, which are not described, consult the dealer from whom you purchased your
machine.
1.14 Constructional Changes to the Device
It is not permitted to carry out modifications, extensions or conversions without the manufacturer’s
approval.
Device components that are not in a faultless condition have to be replaced immediately. Use original
spare parts only. For parts bought from an external source it cannot be guaranteed that these have
been designed and manufactured to suit the demands and safety requirements of the device.

The copyright for these operating instructions remains with Standard Duplicating Machines Corpora-
tion.
These operating instructions are only intended for the operator. They contain instructions and notes,
which may not be duplicated either in part or in whole, disseminated or otherwise communicated.
Violation can involve criminal offence consequences.
1.16 Disposal
Taking into consideration the environmental conditions and the local official regulations, AccuBind®
strips may be stored and disposed together with domestic waste.

The device is delivered packed inside a cardboard box.

When storing the device over a longer period of time, the following needs to be observed:
•Only store in dry rooms;
•Suitable packaging (protective foil) needs to be chosen for storage.
Note
Although all the parts that are endangered by corrosion are made of
stainless, chromium plated or galvanized steels, or have been provided
with a protective coat of paint, the device needs to be examined for signs
of corrosion after a long period of storage.

4 Installation, Commissioning
4.1 Safety Instructions
CAUTION!
Before switching on the device, ensure that nobody can be endan-
gered by the device.
•Keep all parts free of dirt.
•Electrical wiring must be appropriately laid and mounted. They have to be assembled such that
they are not damaged during later operation of the device. Electrical connections, length and
quality of wires have to comply with local regulations.
4.2 Place of Installation
Before installing the device, the operator has to ensure that
•A socket for the respective connected load (see rating plate) is available in the vicinity of the
place of installation.
•A workbench with the respective load bearing capacity is available.
CAUTION!
The weight of the device including accessories is approx. 44.1 lb. /
20 kg.
4.3 Unpacking the Device
•The device is supplied packed inside a cardboard box.
•Remove the packaging.
•Check whether the delivery is complete.
•The device is manually lifted out of the cardboard box.
•Position the device at its intended place of installation.

4.4 Installing and Assembling the Device
•Check the device for any loss in transit and soiling. If necessary, clean the device prior to start-
up.
•Power supply cables to the device have to be laid such that they are not damaged during later
operation of the device.
•Before commissioning the AccuBindPro2, wait until it has reached its ambient temperature.
•Big variations in temperature and humidity may result in malfunctions and faulty bindings.
4.5 Establishing the Power Supply
WARNING!
Electrical wiring must be appropriately laid and mounted. Length
and quality of the wiring must correspond to the local provisions.
Work on the electrical system may only be executed by professional
personnel. For that purpose, observe the regulations of employers’
mutual insurance associations.
•Before connecting the device to the mains, ensure that:
The connections comply with the requirements;
The device’s main switch is on "0".
•Establish the connection to the power mains. The device is now ready for operation.

5 Operation
5.1 Switching on the Device

1. Switch on the device at the main switch.
2. The clamping jaws close automatically.
3. The device is now in the preheating phase and heats up. Duration approx. 5 min. at room tem-
perature. The heating phase is displayed by the flashing LEDs starting with LED F. If a heating
step has been reached, the LED is permanently on.
4. If the set temperature has been reached, the display extinguishes and the calibration procedure
starts.
5. After the calibration process the symbols INSERT BINDING MATERIAL and CLOSE CLAMPING
JAWS light up.
6. The device is now ready for operation.
7. If for more than 1 hr. no binding procedure is performed, the device switches to the energy-
saving standby mode.
8. If, for more than 3 hrs., no binding procedure is performed, and the heating is shut-down com-
pletely by the control system. Except the LED F, all other LEDs are switched-off.
9. Pressing the STANDBY button starts the heating procedure again.
Note
It is not possible to start a binding cycle during the preheating phase. The
device is only released from a temperature of 290°F / 143°C.

5.2 STANDBY Mode - Automatic and Manual energy-saving modes
The device switches automatically to energy-saving STANDBY mode with a lower heating plate tem-
perature if it has been idle for more than approx.1 hour (the LEDs A, B, C are switched-off and the
LEDs D, E, F remain on).
If the device has not been used for more than approx. 3 hours, it is switched into a sleep mode with
switched-off heating (the LEDs A, B, C, D, E are turned off, LED F remains on to display the room
temperature).
To manually activate the STANDBY mode, press the STANDBY button. The device is immediately
switched to energy-saving mode with reduced temperature of heating plate.
After pressing the STANDBY button again and a short heating period, the device is ready for opera-
tion again (START button LED is on).

NOTE: The numbers on the drawing indicate the step number below.
1. The device is now ready for operation and in Binding Mode by default.
2. The opening clearance of the clamping jaws can be reduced to prevent the paper from slipping
or tilting while binding thin stacks. This is accomplished by pressing the START button.
3. As long as the START button is pressed, and if the paper hasn't been inserted yet, the clamping
jaws move together until they are closed and move back to their maximum opening clearance
again.
4. If the clamping jaws have been closed too far, press the STOP button to open them again.
5. Adjust the opening clearance of the clamping jaws if necessary.
6. Jog the paper stack and place it upright between the clamping jaws with the spine pointing down-
wards and aligned against the right side.
7. Press the START button.
8. Hold on to the block of paper until the clamping station has closed.
9. The required strip width is calculated.
10. The required strip width is displayed by the lighting up of LED STRIP WIDTH A – F.
11. The display for inserting the Binding Strip is on.

12. Insert the Binding Strip into the feeder with the adhesive side facing upwards.
13. The binding cycle is started automatically.
14. LED BINDING COMPLETED lights up, the clamping station opens and moves after removal of
the book into the position of the previous book size plus 0.59” (15 mm) opening clearance.
15. If the binding isn't removed quickly, you'll hear an audible warning signal.
16. Remove the binding straight up and place onto the cooling rack to cool down.
17. Place the pressure block against the binding and press firmly against it.
18. If you want to continue your binding job with paper of the same or a smaller size you may do so
by putting the paper stack into the binding device and triggering the binding process with the
START button.
19. If your paper stack is bigger than the one used before you have to open the clamping jaws by
pressing the START button. Then put the paper stack into the AccuBindPro2 and trigger the
binding process by pressing the START button once again.

Note
Allow the bound material to rest for approx. 10 minutes until it has cooled down.
