1 Safety Instructions
1.1 Information Regarding the Operating Instructions
Knowledge of the basic safety instructions is a prerequisite for the safe handling and suc-
cessful operation of the device.
These operating instructions contain the necessary information to operate the device in a
safe manner.
These operating instructions, and in particular the safety information, must be observed by
everyone working on the device. Furthermore, the rules and regulations for the prevention
of accidents that are valid at the site of installation have to be complied with.
The operating instructions can on no account replace thorough training and familiarization,
but can only support these.
The dealer from whom you purchased your AccuBind Pro will gladly provide you with
information regarding training courses for: Operation
Maintenance and servicing
1.2 Operator's Obligations
The operator is should only allow persons to work on the device who:
■ Have acquainted themselves with the instructions regarding occupational safety
and the prevention of accidents and who have been instructed in handling the
device.
■ Have read and understood the chapter on safety and the warnings contained in
these operating instructions.
1.3 Personnel Obligations
Persons who have been instructed to carry out work on the device commit themselves to:
■ Comply with the regulations regarding occupational safety and the prevention of
accidents;
■ Have read and understood the chapter on safety and the warnings contained in
these operating instructions before working with the device for the first time.
1.4 Dangers when Handling the Device
The AccuBind Pro has been constructed in accordance with the state-of-the-art
and approved safety rules. Dangers may nevertheless arise for the user or third parties if
the device is not used in accordance with the instructions or for another than the intended
use.
It is also possible for the device or other material assets to be damaged. Malfunctions that
may impair safety have to be eliminated without delay.The device may only be used:
■ For the intended use.
■ In a technically safe and faultless condition.

1.5 Intended Use
◆The STANDARD AccuBind
Pro
is a binding device for pads, pamphlets,
catalogues and calendars with a spine length of DIN A5, DIN A4, and 11".
◆Bindings may comprise *5 - 325 sheets (*with cover).Bind thickness maximum = 1.25” (33 mm).
◆The device may exclusively be used for the possible applications described above. Any
other use or use beyond the one described shall be considered as not being in accordance
with the instructions or the intended use.The manufacturer shall not be liable for any
damages resulting from this.The risk shall be borne by the user alone. Use in accordance
with the instructions and for the intended use also includes compliance with the operating
instructions and keeping to service and maintenance work schedules.
1.6 Warranty and Liability
◆Any warranty and liability claims for personal injuries and damage to property shall be
excluded if these may be put down to one or several of the following reasons:
◆Use of the device that is not in accordance with the instructions and the intended use.
◆Improper assembly, start -up, operation and maintenance of the device.
◆Operating the device with defective and/or inoperable safety and protective devices.
◆Non-compliance with the information in the operating instructions with regard to
transport, storage, assembly, start -up, operation and maintenance of the device.
◆Unauthorized constructional changes to the device.
◆Unauthorized changes to the working conditions (performance, ...)
◆Inadequate monitoring of system components that are subject to wear.
◆Improperly conducted repairs.
◆Disasters caused by the effects of foreign bodies and force majeure.

2 Safety Instructions
2.1 Explanation of Symbols and Notes
These operating instructions use the following designations and signs for danger:
Warning!
This symbol indicates an immediately threatening danger for the
life and health of persons.
Non-compliance with these instructions has serious adverse health
effects, culminating in life-threatening injuries.
Caution!
This symbol indicates a possibly dangerous situation.
Non-compliance with these instructions may lead to minor
injuries or damage to property.
Note!
This symbol indicates notes, application hints and useful
information.
These assist in ensuring an optimal use of the device functions.
2.2 Organizational Measures
Necessary personal protective equipment has to be provided by the operator. All available
safety devices have to be regularly checked before work commences.
2.3 Protective Devices
Prior to every start-up of the device all protective devices have to be appropriately attached
and must be operational. Protective devices may only be removed:
■ After the device has come to a standstill; and
■ After the device has been secured against restart.
2.4 Informal Safety Measures
The operating instructions must be kept at the device's site of operation all the time.
Supplementary to the operating instructions, general as well as local regulations for the
prevention of accidents and environmental protection must be made available and
be complied with.
All safety and danger information on the equipment must be maintained in a legible
condition.
2.5 Personnel Training
Only instructed personnel may work on the device. Personnel to be instructed may only
work on the device under the supervision of an experienced person.
Personnel responsibilities for assembly, start-up, operation, maintenance and repair have to
be clearly defined.

2.6 Safety Measures during Normal Operation
● The device may only be operated if all protective devices are fully operational.
● Prior to switching on the device it must be ensured that nobody can be put at risk by the
device. Regularly check the device for externally noticeable damage and the proper working
condition of safety devices.
2.7 Dangers as a Result of Electrical Energy
● Work on the electrical equipment of the device may only be carried out by a trained
electrician or instructed persons under the guidance and supervision of a trained electrician.
● The device's electrical equipment has to be checked on a regular basis. Loose connections
and damaged cables must be repaired immediately.
● Defective fuses may only be replaced with approved spare parts of equal specification.
2.8 Special Danger Areas
Caution!
There are hot surfaces within the working area (approx. 289° F/143°C). There is dan-
ger of getting burned! Do not use any flammable liquids near the hot device.
There is danger of getting bruised in the area of the book clamp.
2.9 Maintenance, Servicing,Trouble Shooting
● If any malfunctions occur while working with the device, please consult chapter 7 -
Malfunctions and Trouble Shooting regarding the reasons for the malfunction and possible
corrective action.
● Contact your dealer if any malfunctions occur on the device that are not described.
2.10 Automatic Switching Over to Stand-by Operation
● The device switches automatically to energy-saving stand-by operation with a lower heating
plate temperature if it has not been used for more than 30 minutes after a binding operation
or after the last time a button has been pressed. If you want to resume work with the
device, press the "Start" button. After a short preheating period, the device is once more
ready for use.
2.11 Constructional Changes to the Device
● It is not permitted to carry out modifications, extensions or conversions without the
manufacturer's approval.
● Device components that are worn, damaged or broken must be replaced immediately.
Use only original replacement parts. For parts bought from an external source it cannot
be guaranteed that these have been designed and manufactured to suit the demands and
safety requirements.
2.12 Noise Emitted by the Device
● The permanent sound pressure level emanating from the device is 70 dB(A).
2.13 Copywright
● The copyright for these operating instructions remains with Standard Duplicating Machines
Corporation.
● These operating instructions are only intended for the operator.They contain instructions
and notes, which may not be duplicated either in part or in whole, disseminated or
otherwise communicated.
● Non-compliance may have consequences under criminal law.
2.14 Disposal
● Taking into consideration the environmental conditions and the local official regulations,
AccuBind® strips may be stored and burned together with domestic waste.

3 Transport and Storage
The device is supplied packed inside a cardboard box. 30 in (760 mm)

When storing the device over a longer period of time, the following needs to be observed:
■ Only store in dry rooms;
■ Suitable packaging (protective foil) needs to be chosen for storage.
Note!
Although all the parts that are endangered by corrosion are made of stainless,
chromium plated or galvanized steels or have been provided with a protective coat of
paint, the device needs to be examined for signs of corrosion after a longer period of
storage.

5 Installation, Assembly, Start-up
5.1 Safety Information
■ The device is manually lifted out of the cardboard box.
■ Keep all parts free of any dirt and damage.
■ Electric wires have to be professionally laid and assembled.They have to be
assembled such that they are not damaged during later operation of the device.
■ Electrical connections, length and quality of wires have to comply with local
regulations.
■ Before switching on the device, ensure that nobody can be endangered by the device.
5.2 Place of Installation
Before installing the device, the operator has to ensure that:
■ An electrical receptacle rated for the respective connected load (see rating plate) is
available within 5 feet of the place of installation.
■ A workbench or table capable of supporting up to 100 lbs. is available.
Warning!
The weight of the device including accessories is approx. 34 lbs. (16 kg).
5.3 Unpacking the Device
■ The device is supplied packed inside a cardboard box.
■ Remove the packaging.
■ Check whether the delivery is complete.
■ Position the device at its intended place of installation.
5.4 Installing and Assembling the Device
■ Check the device for any dirt or damage. If necessary, clean the device prior
to start-up.
■ Power supply cables to the device must be positioned so that they are not damaged
during operation of the device or cause a tripping hazard to personnel.
■ Before commissioning the unit, wait until it has reached room
temperature. Sudden variations in temperature and humidity may result in equipment mal
functions and faulty bindings.
5.5 Establishing the Power Supply
Warning!
Electric receptacles must be professionally installed and assembled.
Length and quality of wires must comply with local regulations. At no time should this
equipment be operated using an extension cord.
Work on the equipment may only be carried out by a Standard Authorized Dealer. Please
observe the regulations provided by the Employer's Liability Insurance Association in this regard.
■ Before connecting the device to the mains, confirm that:
- The connections comply with the local electrical and safety requirements.
- The device's main switch is off ("0 position").
■ Connect the electrical cord from the wall receptacle to the machine.The device is now
ready for operation.

Switching on the AccuBind
Pro
The following steps on this page are required any time the machine has been switched from off
to on or when the main cover has been opened and closed.
1. Switch on your AccuBindPro by pressing the
black switch by the power cord to the “I” position.
2. Your AccuBindPro will be ready to use when all
of the lamps next to the ABCDEF display are not
lit and the green “start” indicator illuminates.
3. Press the green Start button to calibrate the
AccuBindPro. (Please note that this step is required only
when the machine has been powered from off to on or the main
cover has been opened)

OPERATING IN “NORMAL” BINDING MODE
Confirm that the machine has been set for
“Normal” binding mode as indicated by the
lamp, if another mode lamp is lit, press the blue
button until the correct lamp illuminates. At this
time the “insert book” indicator should also be
lighted.
Note: If only the green start lamp is lit, this indi-
cates that the machine is in “Standby” mode,
press the green “start button to return the
machine to operating temperature
Insert book to be bound (binding edge to the
bottom) in the center of the clamp opening at
the top of the machine so that it rests evenly on
the heating plate below. Slide book fully to the
right end. Continue to hold the book and main-
tain a slight pressure to the right end.
Quickly press the green Start button while
maintaing a firm grip on the book block.
Insert the matching width strip of tape as indi-
cated by the illuminated lamp next to the letter
A, B, C, D, E or F in your choice of color, posi-
tioning the adhesive coated side of the strip
facing the book to be bound. (Glue side up or
left, cloth side down or right)

When clamp re-opens, slide book slightly to the
left and immediately remove your bound book by
lifting it straight up and out of the machine. Do
not leave bound book in machine for more than
five seconds.
Note: If bound book remains in the machine for
more than 10 seconds an audible alarm will be
heard. Remove book immediately!
Place bound book into cooling rack, behind the
weighted block immediately after removing book
from machine.

OPERATING IN “PRE-BOUND DOCUMENTS” BINDING MODE
Confirm that the machine has been set for
“Pre-Bound” binding mode as indicated by the
lamp, if another mode lamp is lit, press the blue
button until the correct lamp illuminates. At this
time the “insert book” indicator should also be
lighted.
Note: If only the green start lamp is lit, this indi-
cates that the machine is in “Standby” mode,
press the green “start button to return the
machine to operating temperature
Insert book to be bound (binding edge to the
bottom) in the center of the clamp opening at
the top of the machine so that it rests evenly on
the heating plate below. Slide book fully to the
right end. Continue to hold the book and main-

Confirm that the machine has been set for
“Editing” mode as indicated by the lamp, if
another mode lamp is lit, press the blue button
until the correct lamp illuminates. At this time
the “insert book” indicator should also be light-
ed.
Note: If only the green start lamp is lit, this indi-
cates that the machine is in “Standby” mode,
press the green “start button to return the
machine to operating temperature
Locate the page in the book that you wish to
remove and replace. Mark it by folding its cor-
ner so that it can be located quickly in the
appropriate steps to follow.
Insert book to be edited (binding edge to the
bottom) in the center of the clamp opening at
the top of the machine so that it rests evenly on
the heating plate below. Slide book fully to the
right end. Continue to hold the book and main-
tain a slight pressure to the right end.
Press the green Start button while maintaing a
firm grip on the book block.
Note!
Only books that have been bound with the
AccuBind or AccuBindPro can be edited with
this function!

Lay book flat on table and open to page that
needs removal.
Remove page and insert new one in its place.
Take care to align the edges of the new page
with the other existing pages.
Place bound book into cooling rack, behind the
weighted block immediately after removing book
from machine.

Close book and re-insert into the machine
