60 / 61 / 62 SERIES BACK UP ALARMS
1. Mount the alarm in the rear of the vehicle with the sound opening outward towards the
hazard zone.
2. Connect the black wire to the negative side of the battery or a good chassis ground.
3. Connect the red wire to an independent actuating switch or splice it into the back-up
lights as shown in the diagram on the reverse side of this page. Please Note: The
vehicles supply voltage must be the same as the voltage rating specified on the alarm
you are installing. Any other voltage applied will void the warranty.
. For models with a Brown Wire: If you ordered a model with a selectable decibel level
(60-802S or 60-907S), connect the brown wire with the red wire (BAT +) for the lower dB
output, or cut it short and tape it off for the higher dB output. An optional switch may be
installed to allow the driver to select which level the back-up alarm operates at.
IMPORTANT: Please read all of the following instructions before installing your new
Star back-up alarm. This instruction sheet applies only for installation of
the models it is shipped with and only for negative ground vehicles.
DT Models: Dual Tone - Emit n ltern ting high/low tone.
A Models: Auto-Adjusting - Autom tic lly djust the output volume
b sed upon the mbient noise.
S Models: electable - Allows the end user to ch nge the output level.
All of our DC powered back-up alarms are polarity sensitive. All wires
connected to the positive terminal of the battery should be fused at
the battery for their rated load. Testing the l rm before this fuse
is properly inst lled will void the w rr nty on the l rm.
Check the label on your alarm for proper
voltage, current rating, and decibel levels.
•
Improper installation my result in serious injury, property damage, or death.
•
This alarm should be installed so that it only activates when the vehicle is in reverse.
•
Mount the alarm approximately feet above the ground in the rear of the vehicle with the sound
opening outward towards the hazard zone with an unobstructed sound path towards the intended
audience.
•
Select a location that provides protection from adverse weather conditions. The sound opening must
be kept clear of dust, mud, or any other foreign material that may prevent the alarm from sounding
properly.
•
Use a minimum 18AWG wire for electrical connections and a 5A fuse at the power source, ensuring
both positive and ground connections are dependable.
•
After installing, while the alarm is operating, measure the voltage both at the battery and at the alarm to
ensure that there is less than a 0.15 VDC loss between the battery and the alarm.
•
Ensure that the alarm that you are using is loud enough to provide ample warning in the noisiest environments
that it may be used in.
•
Test the alarm and inspect all wiring each time you use the vehicle to ensure that it is functioning properly. If it
is not functioning properly, do not operate the vehicle.
•
Do not paint or coat the alarm with anything. Doing so may reduce the effectiveness of the alarm.
