ATA Device Installation Guide
The Polycom® OBi312 is a single port FXO and single port FXS Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) device packaged in
a compact chassis. This device can be used for the following purposes:
●Analog Backup line for incoming and outgoing calls on FXO port
●Fax machine on FXS port
●Local or remote phone on FXS port
The FXO and FXS ports operate independently of each other. For example, the OBi312 can provide phone or fax
service on the FXS port while simultaneously providing an analog back up connection on the FXO port.
Overview of the Installation Process
The OBi312 is normally pre-configured for use with our StarCloud+ telephone system. In most cases, the installer
can connect the OBi312 to the customer’s network along with the appropriate analog telephone connections.
Connecting the OBi312
The rear panel of the OBi312 has a power connection, USB connection, two RJ11 telephone connectors, and two
RJ45 network connectors, as shown in the following picture:

The connectors are used as follows:
Connector
Purpose
Line
Connection for an FXO (Office) device, usually an analog phone line for backup operation.
Phone
Connection for an FXS (station) device, such as an analog telephone or a fax machine.
USB
Not supported in Star2Star configuration.
LAN
Connection for a laptop computer. Use this connection for off-site configuration.
Internet
Connection to the local network (if used as a local device) or to a WAN connection (if used as a
remote device).
DC 12V
Power
Power connector. Connect the provided AC power supply here.
Note: Does not operate on Power over Ethernet (PoE).
The LAN port is only used to access the OBi312’s built-in configuration server from a connected laptop. This is
necessary when performing off-site configuration. After the device is configured, the LAN cable can be
disconnected.
Pre-Installation Configuration
Ensure that the OBi312 device is added to the customer system correctly using the portal. ATA devices are added
via the Multi-Extension Devices  page in the portal. Analog Phone and Fax Extensions are configured via the
Extensions  page in the portal. Analog backup is configured via the Analog Backup / Operator  page in the portal.

The OBi312 can be configured for either local (On-Net) or remote (off-net) use. If you are re-deploying an OBi312
that was already configured, follow the instructions in the Factory Reset  section below. Then, configure the device
for either local or remote operation.
If you are unsure about the current configuration, perform a factory reset, and then configure the device using the
ATA Portal Configuration Guide.
Factory Reset
To factory reset the OBi312 ATA device:
1. Unplug the cable from the WAN or LAN port.
2. Locate the small raised hole on the bottom of the unit, near front left corner.
3. Insert a straightened paper clip or other thin tool into the hole, and press for about ten seconds. Once
removed, the device resets to the factory settings.

Configure as a Local Device
To configure the OBi302 ATA device as a local device:
1. Connect the WAN port to the telephony switch, which is the switch connected to LAN2 and LAN3 on the
StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN.
2. Connect power supply. The device automatically downloads configuration and completes registration.
Once registered, the OBi302 can make and receive inbound and outbound calls.
Note: Automatic configuration download only applies to the standard StarBox installation.
Configure as a Remote Device
The OBi312 can operate as a remote device, but it requires installation-specific configuration information to
operate. For assistance, contact Star2Star Technical Support.
OBi312 Status Lights
The following status lights are available on the OBi312 front panel:
Light
Green Light Indicates
Connected to power.
Connected to a WAN connection.
Connected to a LAN connection.
Phone is connected and off-hook.
Connected analog line is in use.
