Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a StarTech.com PEX4S552 4 Port Dual Profile
PCI-Express UART Serial Card. Turning a PCI Express slot into four
available RS-232 (DB9) serial connections, this innovative card utilizes a
native, single-chip design for optimal performance and reliability.
Compatible with a broad range of operating systems, including Windows®
2000/XP/2003/Vista™ (32-bit and 64-bit), Linux Kernel 2.6.11 and up,
and MAC OS 10.4 and above, the PEX4S552 PCI Express Serial Card
also features an optional low profile bracket that allows the card to be
installed in virtually any computer case regardless of the form factor of
the case.

• 128-byte deep FIFO per transmitter and receiver
• Automated in-band software flow control using programmable Xon Xoff
in both directions
• Automated out-of-band flow control using CTS/RTS and DSR/DTR
• Compliant with PCI Express base specifications revision 1.0a
• Four high speed RS-232 serial ports with data transfer rate up to 460.8
Kbps
• Native single-Chip, single lane PCI Express

Installation
Please note: Prior to hardware installation, please ensure that the neces-
sary software has been installed on the host computer as detailed below.
Software (Drivers)
Windows® 2000/XP/Server 2003
1. From the Windows® desktop click Start, then Run.
2. In the command line that appears, type:
x:\PCIe\MCS9901\XP\PCIeSetup32.exe,
(where xrepresents the location of the CD/DVD-ROM drive).
3. Click on OK.
4. Click on Install to begin installing the drivers.
5. Click the Exit button to complete the driver installation, then shut down
the PC.
6. Install the PCIe card in an available PCI Express slot on the host
computer. For further reference, please see the section titled
Hardware Installation.
7. Once the PEX4S552 card has been installed within the system, power
up the computer. Once the operating system boots, Windows® will
automatically start installing the device driver software.
Windows® XP(x64), Server 2003(x64)
1. From the Windows® desktop click Start, then Run.
2. In the command line that appears, type:
x:\PCIe\MCS9901\XP64\PCIeSetup64.exe:\PCIe\MCS9901\XP\
PCIeSetup32.exe,
(where xrepresents the location of the CD/DVD-ROM drive).
3. Click on OK.
4. Click on Install to begin installing the drivers.
5. Click the Exit button to complete the driver installation, then shut down

4. Click on Install to begin installing the drivers.

the PC.
6. Install the PCIe card in an available PCI Express slot on the host

Windows Vista™ (x64)
1. From the Windows® desktop click Start, then Run.

6. Install the PCIe card in an available PCI Express slot on the host
computer. For further reference, please see the section titled Hard-
ware Installation.
Hardware Installation
1. Turn off the power to the computer.
2. Unplug the power cord and remove your computer’s cover.
3. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCIe slot.
4. To install the card, carefully align the card’s bus connector with the
selected PCIe slot on the motherboard. Push the board down firmly.
5. Replace the slot bracket holding screw to secure the card.
6. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord.
Verifying Windows Driver Installation
1. Right click My Computer, then click Manage. Click Device Manager.
2. Click on the +(plus sign) in front of Ports in the right pane (COM &
LPT). Four High-Speed PCIe Serial Port should be displayed.
