Introduction
This StarTech.com 5 Channel PCI Sound Card oers a cost-eective multimedia
solution, delivering high quality 5.1 channel audio that’s ideal for gaming, HTPC
applications or any surround sound conguration. Providing true Full-Duplex
playback/capture with dierent sampling rates (up to 48KHz stereo), the PCI sound
card supports simultaneous recording and playback, and features a GAME/MIDI port
that lets you use a Serial joystick or other gaming device.

Installation
WARNING! PCI cards, like all computer equipment, can be severely damaged by static
electricity. Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your computer
case or touching your PCI card. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static
strap when installing any computer component. If an anti-static strap is unavailable,
discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large grounded metal
surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds. Also be careful to handle the
PCI card by its edges and not the gold connectors.
Hardware Installation
1. Turn your computer o and any peripherals connected to the computer (i.e. Printers,
external hard drives, etc.). Unplug the power cable from the rear of the power
supply on the back of the computer.
2. Remove the cover from the computer case. Refer to documentation for your
computer system for details.
3. Locate an open PCI or slot and remove the metal cover plate on the rear of the
computer case.
4. Insert the card into the open PCI or PCI-X slot and fasten the card’s bracket to the
rear of the case.
OPTIONAL: To connect an existing CD-ROM drive’s analog audio signal to the sound
card, use an appropriate audio cable (supplied with CD-ROM drive) from the audio
output on the CD-ROM drive to one of the input headers on the card. Connect to the
appropriate header, depending on the make of CD-ROM (i.e. Sony, Panasonic or AUX/
Other).
5. Place the cover back onto the computer case.
6. Insert the power cable into the socket on the power supply and reconnect all other
connectors removed in Step 1.

Driver Installation
Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
1. After restarting your computer, a message should appear indicating that Windows
has detected a hardware change. Click the Next button to continue with the
installation.
2. Put the CD entitled Drivers and Utility - Installation into your CD-ROM drive.
3. Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), followed by the Next button.
4. Select Specify a location and click the Browse button to designate the location
of the necessary les. Once the Browse for Folder window appears, select the
drive designated for your CD-ROM drive. Open the“CMEDIA” folder, followed by “\
CMEDIA\CMI8738-6CH”.
5. Open the appropriate folder, followed by the “DRV” folder.
6. Click OK. Once Windows has located the driver, click the Next button. Following this,
the installation is automated. Follow the Windows prompts to nish installation.
Software Installation (optional)
1. On the Installation CD, navigate to the “CMEDIA/CMI8738-6CH”folder and then the
appropriate operating system version, then under the“APP” folder.
2. Double-click on SETUP.EXE software installation le, and follow all the prompts to
complete the installation.
Jumper Conguration
The jumper setting for Center/Sub conguation simply reverses the center/sub
channels on the cable. Change the jumper setting if you nd the Center/Sub channels
reversed on the audio receiver/speakers.
