INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing an ARKANE crane,
the made in France by STARTER.
This new range of crane, designed and
manufactured at our factory in SAINT OUEN
L’AUMONE builds on the strengths of starter
design: trolley load translation, versatility,
robustness, ease of installation, economical
solution, high-performance electric winch with
hawse fairlead guide (for electric versions),
minimum pillarprint regardless of the vehicle.
The ARKANE cranes range is recommended
on trailler, dumpsters and vans for any
operation to lift pumps, lift pestle, lift parts,
transport drums, etc.
Operated by a wired remote control and
protected by an integrated load limiter device,
all powered directly by the vehicle's battery.
This manual brings together all the technical
information, installation and use of our
ARKANE cranes.

et fabriquée dans nos usines à SAINT OUEN
L’AUMONE, s’appuie sur les points forts du
design STARTER : translation sous charge
du chariot, polyvalence, robustesse, facilité
d’installation, solution économique, treuil
WARN électrique haute performance avec
guide-câble écubier (pour les versions
électriques), encombrement minimum quel
que soit le véhicule.
La gamme de potences ARKANE est
recommandée sur plateaux, bennes et
fourgons pour toute opération de relevage de
pompes, levage pilonneuses, levage de
pièces, transport de fûts, etc…
Actionnées à distance par une télécommande
filaire et protégées par un dispositif intégré de
limitation de charge, le tout directement
alimenté par la batterie du véhicule.
Ce présent manuel réunit toutes les
informations techniques, d’installation et
d’utilisation de nos potences ARKANE.

2 SAFETY INSTRUCTION
For safety of operators and people located
near the product, it is very important to
read and understand every safety
requirements referring to its installation
and its use.
The STARTER company (GROUP DLD)
declines any responsibility if a material
accident or a body accident occurs
because of the non-observance of security
instructions and instructions of use
described below.
2 CONSIGNES DE SECURITE
Pour la sécurité de l'opérateur et des
personnes situées à proximité du matériel,
il est très important de lire et de
comprendre toutes les règles de sécurité
se rapportant à son installation et à son
utilisation.
La société STARTER (GROUPE DLD)
décline toute responsabilité au cas où un
accident matériel ou corporel surviendrait
à la suite du non-respect des consignes
de sécurité et des instructions d'utilisation
décrites ci-dessous.
2.1 General safety instruction
The manager must carry out the training
necessary of the operators.
Operators must always work in conformity with
this manual instructions.
Operators must always start loads lifting with
the lowest speed of lifting available. Before
lifting, carrying bodies (wire, chain, string)
must initially be loaded and do not have to
present any slackness.
Never lift loads exceeding safe working Ioad.
Never tear off blocked or wedged loads.
Never draw in skew the blocked loads.
2.1Consignes de sécurité
générales
Le chef d’établissement doit procéder à la
formation nécessaire des opérateurs.
Les opérateurs doivent toujours travailler en
conformité avec la notice d’instructions.
Les opérateurs doivent toujours lever les
charges reposant librement sur le sol avec la
plus petite vitesse de levage disponible. Avant
le levage, les organes porteurs (câble, chaîne,
sangle) doivent d’abord être tendus et ne
doivent pas présenter de mou.
Il est interdit de soulever des charges
supérieures à la capacité nominale du
matériel.
Il est interdit d’arracher des charges bloquées
ou coincées.
Il est interdit de tirer en biais les charges
bloquées.

Avoid the strumming on the control units.
Never lift or haul people with the winch.
The operator must be attentive with the
operation carried out and must have a
complete vision of the operation in progress. If
needed, he must be helped during the
operation.
Make sure that nobody is near the load and
the wire during operations.
Ensure that every personnel and spectators
are clear of the load and winch.
Ensure the guidance of the load when the
operator cannot see it during the operation.
Start gently if the winch allows it before using
the full power, to avoid dynamic overloads.
Stop any operation if an overload or a suspect
noise occurs.
Make sure that the winch is never used by
non-qualified personnel.
Ensure visually of a good rope winding on the
drum during lifting operations.
The ARKANE crane must be fixed at the top
and bottom.
Use the crane exclusively in lifting and under
no circumstances in skewed or pulled.
Lift the load only vertically.
Do not lift or move people.
Ensure that the synthetic or steel rope is
installed on the drum in accordance with the
requirements of this manual.
Eviter le pianotage sur les organes de
commande.
Il est interdit de lever des personnes.
L'opérateur doit être attentif à la manœuvre
effectuée et avoir une vision complète de
l'opération en cours. Si besoin, il doit se faire
aider au cours de la manœuvre.
La zone de mouvement de la charge doit être
dégagée de toute personne.
S'assurer que personne ne se trouve à
proximité du matériel et du câble lors de son
fonctionnement.
S'assurer du guidage de la charge lorsque
l'opérateur ne peut la visualiser au cours de la
manœuvre.
Démarrer doucement si le matériel le permet
avant d'appliquer la pleine vitesse pour éviter
les surcharges dynamiques.
Arrêter le matériel si la moindre anomalie
survient (surcharge, bruit suspect...etc).
S'assurer que le matériel n'est jamais utilisé
par un personnel non qualifié.
S’assurer visuellement du bon enroulement du
câble sur le tambour lors des opérations de
levage.
La potence ARKANE doit être fixée en haut et
en bas.
Utiliser la potence exclusivement en levage et
en aucun cas en biais ou en halage.
Lever la charge uniquement à la verticale.
Ne pas soulever ou déplacer des personnes.
S'assurer que le câble synthétique ou acier est
installé sur le tambour conformément aux
prescriptions de ce manuel.

Winding rope on the drum:
Always leave the dead wraps on the drum.
Respect the maximum load of the crane
See SWL shown on the trolley.
Don't park under the load.
Don't pull vehicles.
Check the condition of the lifting rope
periodically:
As soon as the synthetic or steel rope has an
anomaly, pinching or deterioration of the
filaments, immediately replace it.
Wear leather gloves to handle the rope and
hang the load.
Away hands from rope, hook and load:
- While hoisting
- While lowering
- During all load translations
Do not use the remote control cable to rotate
the crane.
Do not use the winch to block a load during
transport.
Enroulement du câble sur le tambour :
Toujours respecter les tours morts sur le
tambour.
Respecter la charge maximale de la potence
Cf. CMU indiquée sur le chariot.
Ne pas stationner sous la charge.
Ne pas tirer de véhicules.
Vérifier périodiquement l'état du câble de
levage :
Dès que le câble synthétique ou acier
présente une anomalie, pincement ou
détérioration des fils, procéder
immédiatement au remplacement de celui-ci.
Porter des gants en cuir pour manipuler le
câble et accrocher la charge.
Eloigner les mains du câble, du crochet et de
la charge :
- Pendant le levage.
- Pendant la descente.
- Pendant toutes les translations de charges
Ne pas utiliser le fil de télécommande pour
faire pivoter la potence.
Ne pas utiliser le treuil pour bloquer une
charge pendant le transport.

2.2 General safety instruction
about the wire rope use
Never touch the rope (synthetic or steel)
when it is under load.
Wearing gloves is mandatory for any handling
of the rope.
Never handle the rope when an operator is in
control of the hardware.
Make sure the rope is winding properly and
firmly on the drum.
Make sure the cable does not rub on any
rough surface or sharp edges.
If you have any doubts, please contact our
technical department before any rope
changes.
In this manual, only the criteria for depositing
a synthetic rope are detailed.
For inspection of the steel wire rope, refer to
ISO 4309.
Never use a synthetic rope if a steel wire rope
has already been used. The friction marks left
by the steel wire rope would damage the
synthetic rope and affect its strength.

correctement et fermement sur le tambour.
S'assurer que le câble ne frotte sur aucune
surface rugueuse ou bords tranchants.
Si vous avez un doute, veuillez contacter
notre service technique avant tout
changement de câble.
Dans ce manuel, seul les critères de dépose
d’un câble synthétique sont détaillés.
Pour l’inspection du câble acier, se reporter à
la norme ISO 4309.
Ne jamais utiliser un câble synthétique si un
câble acier a déjà été utilisé. Les traces de
frottement laissées par le câble acier
détérioreraient le câble synthétique et
affecterait sa résistance.

The ARKANE cranes consist of:
A pillar round steel tube.
An arm swiveling into rectangular steel
tube.
A translation trolley, fitted with a cable
guide (for electric versions).
A 12-volt WARN electric winch (for
electric versions)
A chain hoist (for the manual version).
A Load limiter device also performing
the high limit switch function (for electric
versions).
A synthetic or steel wire rope (for
electric versions)
Length: 4m or 10m, (depending on the
option chosen), with hook and Safety
Languet
A 3.6m wired remote control (for electric
versions).
4 half-collars for high and low fastening.
A High fastening leg on the vehicle (top
of the pillar)
A 35 mm² double power cable - 1.50 m
length - with 2 Quick sockets (for electric
versions).

4.1 Support structure
In order to fully comply with the 2006/42/EC
machine directive, the structure on which the
crane is attached must be properly sized and
carried out.
The solicitations to be taken into account in
the calculations are:

4.2 Positioning
Our cranes are designed to work with the
pillar vertically. The fastening plate should be
below the pillar.

4.3 Lower fixation point
The crane has to be fixed with 4 M12 screw
class 8.8.
All the holes must be used for the winch
fixation.
The tightening torque must correspond to the
chart below:

4.4 Upper fixation point
The crane has to be fixed with 1 M12 screw
class 8.8.
The tightening torque must correspond to the
chart above.

Check regularly the tightening of fixation
screws in lower and upper points.
For the Upper fixing point of the crane, you
have, in the kit, two collars and a fixation
support that will have to attach to a rigid point
of the vehicle, able to resist to the efforts
described in Chapter 4.1.
Vérifier régulièrement le serrage des vis de
fixation en partie inférieure et supérieure.
Pour la fixation haute de la potence, vous
disposez, dans le colis, de 2 colliers et d’une
patte qui devront se fixer sur un point rigide
du véhicule, capable de supporter les efforts
décrits au chapitre 4.1.
The tightening of fixation screws must be
checked after the first five operating hours,
then every 3 months.
Le serrage des vis de fixation du matériel doit
être vérifié après les 5 premières heures de
fonctionnement, puis tous les 3 mois.
It is essential that this crane be fixed at the top and bottom, regardless of the
vehicle, trailer, dumpster, etc.
The upper part for the high fixing point must be designed and calculated by
your bodybuilder or your planner, respecting the stress indications.
Il est indispensable que cette potence soit fixée obligatoirement en haut et en
bas, quel que soit le véhicule, remorque, benne, etc
La fixation haute doit être réalisée et dimensionnée par votre carrossier ou
votre aménageur, en respectant les indications d’effort.

4.5 Electrical connection
In standard supply, the crane comes with:

- 1 40A fuse and its support
- 1 fusible 40A et son porte fusible
- 1 quick socket + 2x 35mm² pods (for battery
connection) and its fixation bolts
- 1 prise quick + 2 cosses 35mm² (pour la
liaison batterie) et sa boulonnerie de fixation
- 1 remote control 3m with winding /
unwinding / emergency stop button
- 1 télécommande 3m avec boutons
enroulement / déroulement / arrêt d’urgence

4.6 Static test
The real wire rope is delivered separately
and should not be used in the regulatory
test.
A shorter test rope similar to your working
rope: synthetic or steel (allowing you to
test in the first layer) should be used in
this test.
Once the test is completed, the test rope
must be disassembled.
Start-up:
1. Rotate the crane out of the vehicle, install
the stand (in option)
2. Plug the remote control into the crane
3. Unlock the circuit breaker
3. Operate the crane by acting on the remote
control to check the electrical operation.
4. Install the test rope on the winch (see
procedure next page)
5. Prepare a mass equivalent to the nominal
effort of your crane (250 kg or 500 kg)
Lift de load a few centimeters.
6. Wait 30 seconds for the spires to stretch
and the load to be stabilized.
The load can go down a few centimeters this
is due to the tension of the rope sliding of the
layers of rope on itself.
7. Add the overload weight by 25%
(62.5 kg for 250 crane and 125 kg for 500
crane)
Press up on the lifting button, lifting with the
overload weight should not be possible. If not,
send the trolley to after-sales service.
4.6 Test statique
Le câble de travail est livré séparément et
ne doit pas servir lors du test
réglementaire.
Un câble d’essai (de même nature que
votre câble de travail : synthétique ou
acier) plus court (permettant de travailler
en première couche) doit être utilisé lors
de ce test.
Une fois le test réalisé, le câble d’essai
doit être démonté.
Mise en route :
1. Faire pivoter la potence vers l’extérieur du
véhicule, installer la béquille (en option)
2. Brancher la télécommande sur la potence
3. Déverrouiller le coupe circuit
3. Actionner la potence en agissant sur la
télécommande pour vérifier le bon
fonctionnement électrique.
4. Installer le câble de test (cf. procédure
page suivante) sur le treuil.
5. Préparer une masse équivalente à l’effort
nominal de votre potence (250 kg ou 500 kg)
Lever la charge de quelques centimètres.
6. Attendre 30 secondes que les spires se
tendent et que la charge soit stabilisée.
La charge peut descendre de quelques
centimètres, cela est dû à la mise en tension
du câble au glissement des couches de câble
sur lui-même.
7. Ajouter le poids de surcharge de +25%
(62.5 kg pour la 250 et 125 kg pour la 500)
Faire un appui sur le bouton montée, le
levage avec le poids de surcharge ne doit pas
être possible. Dans le cas contraire, envoyer
le chariot en SAV.

8. Check that there is no plastic deformation,
especially at the fixation points on the vehicle.
9. Remove the overload weight and lower the
load to the ground.
10. Remove the test rope and install your wire
rope
8. Contrôler qu’il n’y a pas de déformation
plastique, et notamment aux niveaux des
points de fixation sur le véhicule.
9. Enlever le poids de surcharge et reposer la
charge.
10. Enlever le câble de test et installer le
