INSTRUCTIONS FORUSE
1. Before using your gage, calibration must be checked. Secure She 5" Calibration Gage toa bench
using the holes provided, or, clamp ina soft-jaw vice. Turn on the display andsetto Inches by
depressing the "in/mm" as required. Slide the display and movable armtothe leg until it contacts the
Stop Screw.Depress the ZERO button. Open the aims and set the pointed tips (Anvils) of the arms onto
the gaging surfaces of the Calibration Gage. The display should now read 5.QQQ" */-.010*. Due to the
design of the Wheels-on Drum Gage, withextended arm length necessary to clear axle hardware, itmay
be helpful to takeseveral readings ina row to develop the appropriate feel.When repeated readings
agree to less than •*•-/- .010? accuracy has beenachieved. Ifthe display does not read 5.QOQ" */- .010",
please refer to step 7 below for calibration adjustment
\. Select inch or millimeter measurement by depressing the button labeled "in/mm". This button maybe
depressed at any Sme to convert measurements.
3. With scoredsurfaces,place the gage inthe drumwith the fixed ann Anvil heldagainst one side, and
bring the movable arm Anvilinto contact with the drumdirectly across, at the point of greatest diameter.
In this manner,measurements may easily be made o? the depths ofthe scores with the pointed anvils.
4. Unscored surfaces are measured inthe same manner except that the anvils must be kept parallel to
the drum mounting face within 1/8" to assure an accurate reading. This is most quickly done by
measuring the brake drum atits furthest depth using the ends of the amis as depth stops
5.Ifthe digital readout indicates a measurement approaching the limit over standard, the brake drum
should be pulled and measured ina more controlled environment A reading greater than the limit over
standard disqualifies the drum from further safe use. It should be replaced with a new brake drum which
meets the original equipment manufacturer's specifications.
6.To measure score depth only, measure the drum diameter hi a dear unscored area, press the ZERO
button, measure the drum diameter rn the score, then divide the resulting number by2. This isthe scope
depth.

7. To adjustmechanical calibration, turn onthe display andsetto Inches by depressing the "in/mm" as
required. Open the arms andsetthe pointed tips (Anvils) of the arms onto the gaging surfaces of the
Calibration Gage. Depress the ZERO button while in the CalibrationGage.Removefrom Calibration
Gage and slide the display and movable armtothe left until it contacts the Stop Screw. The reading on
the display should now bea negativevaluethat is approximately inthe range of -5 inches. Loosen the
(ocknut onthe StopScrew, and maintaining contactwith the Stop Screw, turn as required until the display
readsprecisely -5.QQCT. Snug She lockout, ensuring the display remains at -5.QQO".
8. Vtftti the display and movable armin contact with the StopScrew,depress the ZERO button. Re-
check inthe Calibration Gage, which should now read 5.000" */- .010".
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
A flashing display indicates the battery is exhausted.Remove baiter/ cover by sliding inthe direction of
the arrow.Carsfully remove the old battery and replacewith fresh battery,positive {*) side iactng up.If
the display appearsfrozenwhenarms are moved,remove thenew battery, wait atleast 30 seconds, and
replace.
CARE OF YOUR GAGE
- Treat asa precision instrument Use care, avoid excessive force, do not drop or subject to shock.
- Keep free from solvents, water, oil, and condensation. Do not immerse inany liquid.
- Periodically wipe with a dean, dry doth.
- Donot disassemble or tamperwith the gage.
Do not apply any voltage tothe gage such ss marking it with an electric pen.
Do not scratch the surface of the measuring scale (blacksurface on linear bar)
- Use in reasonably constant temperature conditions near room temperature
- Avoid rapid temperature and humidity changes
- When not in use, turn offand store in protective case.
Do not store in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
