Installation Task Map for Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000 Servers
Step 1 • Verify power, air conditioning, and floor area requirements. — Refer to the Sun SPARC
Enterprise M4000/M5000 Servers Site Planning Guide and the Sun SPARC Enterprise
Equipment Rack Mounting Guide.
Step 2 • Set up the equipment rack. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise Equipment Rack
Mounting Guide.
Step 3 • If your server was preinstalled in an equipment rack, proceed to Step 5 to connect your
console to a server.
• If your server needs to be rackmounted in an equipment rack, proceed to Step 4.
Step 4 • Mount the server in the equipment rack. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise
Equipment Rack Mounting Guide.
Step 5 • Connect the console to a server. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000
Servers Installation Guide.
Step 6 • Connect the power cables. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000 Servers
Installation Guide.
Step 7 • Power on the input power source. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000
Servers Installation Guide.
Step 8 • Prepare information for hardware configuration. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise
M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers XSCF User’s Guide.
Step 9 • Power on the server. Check that POST runs successfully on the eXtended system
control facility unit (XSCFU) and confirm there are no errors. — Refer to the Sun
SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000 Servers Installation Guide.
Step 10 • Set up the XSCFU for network access. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/
M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers Administration Guide.
Step 11 • If additional hardware or peripheral devices are to be installed into your server,
proceed to Step 12.
• If additional hardware or peripheral devices are not to be installed into the server,
proceed to Step 16.
Step 12 • Turn off the input power source. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000
Servers Installation Guide.
Step 13 • Install additional hardware or peripheral devices. — Refer to the documentation that
came with the hardware or peripheral devices for details.
Step 14 • Turn on the input power source. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000
Servers Installation Guide.
Step 15 • Allow each domain to run through POST and confirm there are no errors.
Step 16 • Check the network settings and connections. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise
M4000/M5000 Servers Installation Guide.
Step 17 • Confirm operation by using SunVTS™ software. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise
M4000/M5000 Servers Installation Guide.
Step 18 • Make the initial settings for each domain. — Refer to the Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/
M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers Administration Guide.
