General information
The SR 562 together with fan unit SR 500 and approved filters are
included in the Sundström fan-assisted respiratory protective device
system conforming to EN 12941/EN 12942:1998.
Combination of SR 562-SR 500 EX is specially constructed for using
in potentially explosive and fire hazardous environments.
See user instructions or label on fan unit for classification.
SR 562 together with compressed air attachment SR 507 and
breathing hose SR 358/SR 359/SR 360 are included in the
Sundström compressed air-fed respiratory device system
conforming to EN 14594:2005
This combination gives a respiratory device with continuous flow to a
compressed air fed respiratory device
When selecting equipment for SR 562 some of the factors that
should be taken into account are as follows:
•Type of pollutant
•Concentrations
•Work intensity
•Protection requirements in addition to respiratory protective advice.
Risk analysis should be carried by a person who has suitable
training and experience in the area.
Limitations
When working in potentially explosive environments all parts of
the equipment have to be EX-approved. When changing spare
parts and accessories you must check that these are EX
approved for work in potentially explosive environments
and accessories you must check that these are EX approved for
work in explosive environments.
Instructions for use for SR 562 should be read before use.

3. Unpacking SR 562
Check that the equipment is complete in
accordance with the packing list and has
not been damaged in transport.
Packing list:
•Hood with breathing hose.
•User instructions
•Cleaning tissue
Putting on the hood
Place the head top in the flow meter and
start the fan unit.
Grip the lower part of the bag to seal
around the breathing hose.
Grip the flow meter tube with the other
hand so that the tube points vertically
upwards from the bag.
Read the position of the ball in the tube.
This should hover at a level with or
slightly above the upper marking on the
tube.
If minimum flow is not achieved, check
that:
–The flow meter is held upright.
–The ball moves freely.
–The bag seals well around the hose.

Check that the O-ring of the hose is in
place.
Connect the hose to the fan unit and turn
it clockwise about 1/ 8 of a turn.

Grip the hose mounting with one hand
and the neck section of the hood with the
other.
Insert your chin into the hood. Keep your
grip of the hood and draw it over your
head.
Adjust the hood so that it seals all the
way round your face and fits closely and
comfortably. The rubber band in the face
seal can be adjusted to the required
length.
If necessary adjust the hood by means of
the knob right at the back of the head
harness.
The knob is on the inside of the hood
behind the hose. You can reach it without
taking off the hood.
Turn clockwise to tighten and counter
clockwise to widen.

If necessary, adjust the head harness in
height by lengthening or shortening the
strap for the top of the head.
Make sure that the breathing hose runs
along your back and is not twisted.
Taking off the hood
Leave the polluted area before taking the
equipment off.
Slacken the face seal band.
In emergency situations, the hood can be
taken off with the rubber band tightened.

Take the hood off.
Switch off the fan, release the belt and
take the fan unit off.
5. Maintenance
Cleaning
Sundström cleaning tissues SR 5226 that
clean and disinfect are recommended for
daily care.
If the equipment is more heavily fouled,
use a soft brush or sponge moistened
with a solution of water and dishwashing
detergent or the like.
Rinse the equipment and leave it to dry.
N.B. Never use a solvent for cleaning.

Storage
After cleaning, store the equipment in a
dry and clean place at room temperature.
Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. The
flow meter can be turned inside out and
can be used as storage bag for the head
top.
Maintenance schedule
The schedule represents the minimum
requirements for maintenance routines in
order to ensure that equipment will
always be in functional condition.
To change the sweatband
The sweatband is secured with Velcro
tape to the forehead band.
Proceed as follows: Pull the sweatband
off.

Fit the Velcro strip with the ruffled side
towards the forehead strap and with relief
upwards.
To change the Tyvec-hood
Release the face seal rubber band
secured to the forehead band next to the
Velcro tapes.
Remove the Velcro tapes.
Release the three press studs at the top
edge of the visor.

Lift the head harness out of the hood and
withdraw the hose.
Place the new hood in front of you, with
the visor facing downwards.
Thread the hose from the inside of the
hood, through the passage at the rear of
the hood.

During this operation, the head harness
should rest with the opening facing
upwards.
Note that the hose should not be drawn
all the way through, and around 20 cm
should be left on the inside of the hood.
Grip the front part of the head harness
with one hand and insert the head
harness into the hood, first inserting the
rear part fitted with the hose.
Make sure that the Velcro tape is
stretched under the forehead band of the
head harness.

Secure the hood by means of the press-
studs at the top edge of the visor.
Fold the Velcro tapes around the
forehead band and secure them as firmly
as possible.
Take the face seal rubber band and insert
the knot into the keyhole opening in the
head harness.

Secure it by pulling the rubber band into
the narrow part of the slot.
Check that the head harness is straight in
the hood and that the hose passage of
the hood is not twisted around the hose.
To change the hose
Release the face seal rubber band
secured to the forehead band next to the
Velcro tapes.

Remove the Velcro tapes
Release the three press studs at the top
edge of the visor.
Lift the head harness out of the hood and
withdraw the hose.

Turn the locknut a quarter of a turn and
remove it. Use polygrip pliers if the lock
nut is stiff to turn.
Thread the pin on one side of the hose
coupling down through the recess in the
head harness, turn the hose through 180
degrees and insert pin.
Pull the hose out of the hood.

One coupling of the hose is fitted with an
o-ring. Thread the new hose with this end
first from the inside of the hood, through
the passage at the rear of the hood.
Note that the hose should not be drawn
all the way through, and around 20 cm
should be left on the inside of the hood.
Fit the new hose to the head harness in
the reverse order.
Grip the front part of the head harness
with one hand and insert the head
harness into the hood, first inserting the
rear part fitted with the hose.

Make sure that the Velcro tape is
stretched under the forehead band of the
head harness and secure them as firmly
as possible.
Secure the hood by means of the three
press-studs at the top edge of the visor.
Fold the Velcro tapes around the
forehand band and secure them as firmly
as possible.

Take the face seal rubber band and insert
the knot into the keyhole opening in the
head harness.
Secure it by pulling the rubber band into
the narrow part of the slot.
Check that the head harness is straight in
the hood and that the hose passage of
the hood is not twisted around the hose.
To change the head harness
Follow the relevant parts of the above
instructions dealing with changing the
hose.
