NORMAS GENERALES DE SEGURIDAD
Este TROMPO DE PISO tiene características que
harán su trabajo más rápido y fácil. Seguridad,
comodidad y confiabilidad fueron previstos
como prioridad para el diseño del mismo, ha-
ciendo más fácil su operación.
ADVERTENCIA: Lea todas las advertencias
de seguridad y todas las instrucciones. La omi-
sión de alguna de las advertencias e instruccio-
nes que se enlistan a continuación puede dar
como resultado un choque eléctrico, fuego y/o
un daños serios.
CONSERVE TODAS LAS ADVERTENCIAS Y
TODAS LAS INSTRUCCIONES.
SEGURIDAD EN EL ÁREA DE TRABAJO
Mantenga el área de trabajo limpia y bien ilu-
minada. Las áreas desordenadas y oscuras pro-
vocan accidentes.
No maneje herramientas eléctricas en atmós-
feras explosivas, tales como en presencia de
líquidos inflamables, gases o polvo. Las herra-
mientas eléctricas crean chispas que pueden
encender el polvo o los humos.
Mantenga alejados a los niños y curiosos
mientras maneja una herramienta eléctrica.
Las distracciones pueden causarle la pérdida
del control.
SEGURIDAD ELÉCTRICA
La clavija de la herramienta eléctrica debe
coincidir con receptáculo. No modificar nunca
la clavija de ninguna manera. No usar ningún
adaptador de clavijas con herramientas eléctri-
cas puestas a tierra. Clavijas no modificadas y
bases coincidentes reducirán el riesgo de cho-
que eléctrico.
Evite el contacto del cuerpo con superficies
puestas a tierra como tuberías, radiadores, co-
cinas eléctricas y refrigeradores. Hay un riesgo
aumentado de choque eléctrico si su cuerpo
está puesto a tierra.
No exponga las herramientas eléctricas a la llu-
via o a condiciones de humedad. El agua que
entre en la herramienta aumentará el riesgo
de choque eléctrico.
No abuse del cable. No usar nunca el cable para
llevar, levantar o desenchufar la herramienta
eléctrica. Mantenga el cable lejos del calor,
aceite, cantos vivos o piezas en movimiento.
Los cables dañados o enredados aumentan el
riesgo de choque eléctrico.
Cuando maneje una herramienta eléctrica en
el exterior, use una prolongación de cable ade-
cuada para uso en el exterior. El uso de una
prolongación de cable adecuada para uso en el
exterior reduce el riesgo de choque eléctrico.

EXTENSIONES DE CABLE
NOTA: El uso de cables dañados incrementa el
riesgo de descargas eléctricas o quemaduras.
Si es necesario un cable de extensión, debe ser
usado un cable con el tamaño adecuado de los
conductores. La tabla de la siguiente página,
muestra el tamaño correcto para usar depen-
diendo en la longitud del cable y el rango de
amperaje especificado en la etiqueta de valo-
res nominales del producto. Si está en duda,
use el rango próximo más grande.
Siempre use cables de extensión listados en UL,
CSA o NOM.
TAMAÑOS RECOMENDADOS DE EXTENSIONES
DE CABLE:
Cuando esté usando el producto afuera, use
una extensión para exteriores marcadas con lo
siguiente: “WA” o “W”. Estas extensiones están
pensadas para trabajar en exteriores y reducen
el riesgo de descarga eléctrica.
SEGURIDAD PERSONAL
Esté alerta, vigile lo que está haciendo y use el
sentido común cuando maneje una herramien-
ta eléctrica. No use una herramienta eléctrica
cuando esté cansado o bajo la influencia de

drogas, alcohol o medicamentos. Un momento
de distracción mientras maneja herramientas
eléctricas puede causar un daño personal serio.
Use equipo de seguridad. Lleve siempre pro-
tección para los ojos. La utilización para las
condiciones apropiadas de un equipo de segu-
ridad tal como mascarilla antipolvo, zapatos no
resbaladizos, gorro duro, o protección para los
oídos reducirá los daños personales.
Evite un arranque accidental. Asegúrese de
que el interruptor está en posición apagado
antes de conectar a la red y/o a la batería, co-
ger o transportar la herramienta. Transportar
herramientas eléctricas con el dedo sobre el
interruptor o enchufar herramientas eléctricas
que tienen en interruptor en posición encendi-
do invita a accidentes.
Retire llaves o herramienta antes de arrancar
la herramienta eléctrica. Una llave o herra-
mienta dejada unida a una pieza rotativa de
una herramienta eléctrica puede causar un
daño personal.
No se sobrepase. Mantenga los pies bien asen-
tados sobre el suelo y conserve el equilibrio en
todo momento. Esto permite un mejor control
de la herramienta eléctrica en situaciones in-
esperadas.
Vista adecuadamente. No vista ropa suelta o
joyas. Mantenga su pelo, su ropa y guantes
alejados de las piezas en movimiento. La ropa
suelta, las joyas o el pelo largo pueden ser co-
gidos en las piezas en movimiento.
Si hay dispositivos para la conexión de medios
de extracción y recolección de polvo, asegúre-
se de que éstos estén conectados y se usen co-
rrectamente. El uso de estos dispositivos puede
reducir los peligros relacionados con el polvo.
IMPORTANTE: Este aparato no se destina
para utilizarse por personas (incluyendo niños)
cuyas capacidades físicas, sensoriales o menta-
les sean diferentes o estén reducidas, o carez-
can de experiencia o conocimiento, a menos
que dichas personas reciban una supervisión o
capacitación para el funcionamiento del apa-
rato por una persona responsable de su segu-
ridad. Los niños deben supervisarse para ase-
gurar que ellos no empleen los aparatos como
juguete.
UTILIZACIÓN Y CUIDADOS DE LAS
HERRAMIENTAS ELÉCTRICAS
No fuerce la herramienta eléctrica. Use la he-
rramienta eléctrica correcta para su aplicación.
La herramienta eléctrica correcta hará el tra-
bajo mejor y más seguro al ritmo para la que
fue concebida.
No use la herramienta eléctrica si el interrup-
tor no gira “encendido” y “apagado”. Cual-
quier herramienta eléctrica que no pueda con-
trolarse con el interruptor es peligrosa y debe
repararse.
Desenchufe la clavija de la fuente de alimen-
tación y/o de la batería antes de efectuar
cualquier ajuste, cambio de accesorios, o de
almacenar las herramientas eléctricas. Tales
medidas preventivas de seguridad reducen el
riesgo de arrancar la herramienta accidental-
mente.
Almacene las herramientas eléctricas inactivas
fuera del alcance de los niños y no permita el
manejo de la herramienta eléctrica a personas
no familiarizadas con las herramientas o con
estas instrucciones. Las herramientas eléctricas
son peligrosas en manos de usuarios no entre-
nados.
Mantenga las herramientas eléctricas. Com-
pruebe que las partes móviles no estén des-
alineadas o trabadas, que no haya piezas ro-
tas u otras condiciones que puedan afectar la
operación de las herramientas eléctricas. Las
herramientas eléctricas se reparan antes de su
uso, cuando están dañadas. Muchos acciden-
tes son causados por herramientas eléctricas
pobremente mantenidas.
Mantenga las herramientas de corte afiladas y
limpias. Las herramientas de corte mantenidas
correctamente con los bordes de corte afilados
son menos probables de trabarse y más fáciles
de controlar.
Use la herramienta eléctrica, accesorios y pun-
tas de herramienta, etc. de acuerdo con estas
instrucciones y de la manera prevista para el
tipo particular de herramienta eléctrica, te-
niendo en cuenta las condiciones de trabajo
y el trabajo a desarrollar. El uso de la herra-
mienta eléctrica para aplicaciones diferentes
de las previstas podría causar una situación de
peligro.

SERVICIO
Haga revisar su herramienta eléctrica por un
servicio de reparación calificado usando sola-
mente piezas de reemplazo idénticas. Esto ga-
rantizará que la seguridad de la herramienta
eléctrica se mantiene.
ADVERTENCIAS DE SEGURIDAD
PARA TROMPOS DE PISO
1. MANTENGA LAS MANOS SEGURAS. Nunca
pase sus manos cerca, enfrente o sobre la fresa
de corte. Cuando una mano se acerque a un ra-
dio de 12 pulgadas con un movimiento de arco
aléjela de la fresa de corte hacia el lado de sa-
lida del material y reposicione esa mano a más
de 12 pulgadas fuera de su radio.
2. LONGITUD DEL MATERIAL DE TRABAJO; NO
corte material con una longitud menor a 12
pulgadas sin plantillas o accesorios especiales.
Cuando se requiera, corte material más largo y
después córtelos a la medida requerida.
3. POSICIÓN DE CORTE. Mantenga las brocas
en la parte inferior de la pieza de trabajo siem-
pre que sea posible para reducir la exposición
del operador a la rotación de la fresa de corte.
4. PRUEBAS PARA EL DESPEJE. Desconecte el
trompo y gire el husillo a mano para verificar
cualquier nueva instalación y asegurar que la
fresa de corte este libre antes de comenzar con
la operación.
5. COMIENZO SEGURO Y ALIMENTACIÓN DEL
MATERIAL. Cuando se realicen trabajos de con-
torneado y se use un rodamiento guía, NUNCA
comience el corte por las esquinas. Diríjase a la
sección en el manual sobre el rodamiento guía.
El riesgo de un contragolpe incrementa cuan-
do la madera tiene irregularidades, orificios u
objetos extraños en ella.
6. PREPARADO DE LA PIEZA DE TRABAJO.
Siempre pase un material con irregularidades
o deforme por una canteadora antes de pasar-
lo por el trompo. Una pieza deforme es difícil
de procesar, lo cual incrementa el riesgo de un
accidente.
7. EXPOSICIÓN DE LAS CUCHILLAS. Mantenga
la porción no utilizada de la cuchilla por deba-
jo de la superficie de la mesa.
8. EVITE LA SOBRECARGA. Nunca intente cor-
tar demasiado material en una sola pasada.
Varios pases ligeros son más seguros y dan un
mejor acabado.
9. ALIMENTACIÓN SEGURA DEL MATERIAL DE
TRABAJO. En la mayoría de las aplicaciones es
recomendable usar un bloque de empuje como
dispositivo de seguridad; En algunas otras pue-
de ser un poco peligroso. Si el bloque de em-
puje entra en contacto con la fresa de corte por
la parte de su testa, puede ser violentamente
propulsado de su mano y podría causar lesio-
nes graves. Recomendamos usar algún tipo
de plantilla o cualquier artefacto para sujetar
como método de seguridad alternativo. SIEM-
PRE utilice una guarda u otro tipo de protec-
ción en todo momento.
10. EVITE LA SUJECIÓN DE LA FRESA DE CORTE
CON LA PIEZA DE TRABAJO. Siempre asegúrese
que la fresa de corte este en posición correcta
antes de comenzar el corte, y siempre alimente
el material en contra del sentido de giro de la
fresa de corte.
11. USO SEGURO DE CONFIGURACIONES AL-
TERNATIVAS DE LA MESA: Siempre utilice la
guarda superior cuando la guía no esté en po-
sición. La guarda superior reduce el riesgo de
contacto con el cabezal de corte.
12. INSTALACIÓN DE LA FRESA DE CORTE: Nun-
ca opere el trompo sin antes verificar que la
tuerca del husillo este apretada. Una tuerca del
husillo bien apretada reduce el riesgo de que la
fresa de corte o el rodamiento guía salgan dis-
parados durante la operación.

Antes de intentar usar este producto, familiarí-
cese con todas sus características de operación
y requerimientos de seguridad.

DESEMBALAJE Y ENSAMBLE
DESEMBALAJE
ADVERTENCIA: Este trompo de piso es una
máquina pesada. NO se sobre esfuerce mien-
tras desempaca o la transporta, necesitará que
alguien lo asista. Lesiones personales graves
podrían ocurrir si estas instrucciones no son se-
guidas.
LIMPIEZA
Las superficies sin pintar están recubiertas con
un aceite parafinado para protegerlas de la co-
rrosión durante el envío. Remueva esta capa
protectora con un solvente o un desengrasan-
te a base de cítricos. Evite los solventes a base
de cloro, ya que pudieran dañar las superficies
con las que entren en contacto. Siempre siga
las instrucciones de uso para la máquina que
vaya a limpiar.
ADVERTENCIA: No use gasolina o cual-
quier otro solvente a base de petróleo. Estos
son altamente inflamables. Existe riesgo de ex-
plosión y quemaduras si estos productos son
usados. Lesiones graves pueden ocurrir si esta
advertencia es ignorada.
PRECAUCIÓN: Muchos de los solventes co-
múnmente usados para limpiar maquinaria
pueden ser tóxicos al inhalarse o ingerirse.
Siempre trabaje en áreas bien ventiladas lejos
de potenciales fuentes de ignición cuando se
utilicen solventes. Tenga cuidado cuando se
tenga residuos de trapos o cualquier tela para
estar seguro que no provoquen incendios o pe-
ligros al medio ambiente. Mantenga niños y
animales a una distancia segura cuando se lim-
pie o ensamble esta máquina
ADVERTENCIA: No fume mientras manipu-
le solventes. Existe riesgo de explosión y fuego
ya pudiera provocar lesiones graves.
CONSIDERACIONES PARA SU COLOCACIÓN
CARGA DEL PISO. Este trompo de piso repre-
senta un peso de carga moderado en un área
pequeña. La mayoría de los pisos comerciales o
residenciales, deberían de ser suficientes para
cargar con el peso. Si usted tiene duda de la
resistencia del piso, deberá consultar con un
arquitecto o un ingeniero civil sobre las ade-
cuaciones necesarias para que su piso soporte
la carga.
ESPACIOS SEGUROS Y LIBRES
Los espacios seguros y libres son las distancias
entre las máquinas y los obstáculos que permi-
tan la operación segura de cada máquina sin
tener limitaciones de movimiento. Considere
las necesidades existentes y previstas para la
máquina, tamaño del material que se maneja-
rá a través de cada máquina y espacios para re-
pisas y/o mesas auxiliares. También considere la
posición relativa de cada máquina con respecto
a las otras para el manejo eficiente del mate-
rial. Asegúrese de proporcionarse espacio sufi-
ciente para operar seguramente sus máquinas
en cualquier operación previsible.
ENSAMBLAJE
ADVERTENCIAS
· Desconecte el equipo de la fuente de alimen-
tación para realizar cualquier acción de mante-
nimiento, ensamblaje o ajuste. No hacer esto
pudiera ocasionar graves lesiones personales.
· Mantenga cualquier ropa holgada sujeta y
fuera del alcance de la maquinaria y mantenga
su pelo sujetado hacia atrás.
· Use gafas de seguridad durante todo el pro-
ceso de ensamblado. El no cumplir con esto pu-
diera provocar lesiones graves.
ENSAMBLE DEL TROMPO A LA BASE
1. Recueste un lado de
la base sobre el piso,
una las barras trans-
versales con los per-
nos para carrocería,
arandelas y las tuercas
hexagonales como se
muestra en la figura 1.
NO apriete completamente las tuercas y pernos
en este momento del ensamble.
2. Una el otro lado del soporte al ensamble.

NOTA: En este punto, el ensamblado estará
algo tambaleante. Tenga a una persona que lo
asista para que sostenga lo ensamblado mien-
tras coloca los pernos y las tuercas.
3. Voltee la mesa del
trompo y colóquela
sobre dos bloques fir-
mes que estén eleva-
dos del piso como se
muestra en la figura 2.
Asegúrese de que el husillo no toque la super-
ficie del suelo ya el peso del trompo podría da-
ñarlo.
4. Coloque el ensamble del soporte en el trom-
po y únalo con los pernos de carrocería, ronda-
nas y tuercas hexagonales.
5. Con ayuda de un asistente volteé la unidad.
6. Nivele el trompo, después apriete todos los
pernos que se pusieron sobre la base.
NOTA: Las hojas de acero a menudo se defor-
man después de que han sido fabricadas, pro-
vocando ocasionalmente que sea difícil ali-
nearlas de manera precisa con otras partes.
No se sorprenda si la base requiere un poco
de “persuasión” para ensamblar por comple-
to. Si las partes no embonan, trate de cambiar
las piezas al lado opuesto (como las barras de
unión).
7. Usando los tornillos
y las rondanas, instale
cada frente de la guía
a los soportes de mon-
taje como se muestra
en la figura 3.
8. Para personalizar el frente de la guía. Asegú-
rese de que los tornillos estén completamente
atornillados a la cara frontal de la guía.
9. Conecte la barra de
la guarda de seguri-
dad con el eje de la
guarda con dos per-
nos y sus respectivas
rondanas planas. Vea
la figura 4.
10. Conecte la guarda de seguridad a la barra
de la guarda con dos tornillos y sus respectivas
tuercas.
11. Posicione la barra de extensión y la guarda
de seguridad en la carcasa de la guía principal
e instale la manija del seguro T.
12. Posicione la guarda tan cerca como sea po-
sible al husillo/fresa de corte sin obstruir el ca-
mino de la alimentación de la pieza de trabajo.
13. Coloque una llave
inglesa abierta 8mm
en la parte superior
del husillo. Vea la fi-
gura 5.
14. Usando una llave
inglesa abierta 14mm
sobre la tuerca de la
barra de tiro (figu-
ra 6), asegúrese que
la tuerca de la barra
de tiro este apreta-
da, pero no aplique
torque en exceso a la
tuerca.
NOTA: Esta es una medida de seguridad im-
portante que debe ser realizada antes de las
pruebas de funcionamiento como se menciona
a continuación.
INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN
Complete este proceso una vez que se haya
familiarizado con las instrucciones de este ma-
nual. Para probar el funcionamiento del trom-
po, siga estos pasos:
1. Lea completamente el manual de instruccio-
nes primero, para que se familiarice con todos
los controles y las funciones del trompo.
2. Conecte la máquina a la fuente de alimen-
tación.
3. Encienda la máquina. El trompo deberá fun-
cionar suavemente con poco o nada de vibra-
ciones.
OPERACIÓN
NO trate de solucionar problemas o ajuste la
máquina mientras esté en operación.
Espere a que la máquina esté apagada, des-
conectada y todas las piezas de trabajo se han
detenido completamente antes de proceder.
Con esta máquina podrá realizar varios tipos
de operaciones que están más allá del alcance
de este manual. Muchas de estas operaciones
pueden ser peligrosas o mortales si se realizan
incorrectamente.
Las instrucciones en esta sección están escritas
con la suposición de que el operador tiene el
conocimiento y habilidades necesarias para

operar esta máquina. Si en algún momento
tiene dificultades para realizar una operación,
deje de utilizarla.
Si usted es un operador inexperto, le recomen-
damos que lea libros, artículos comerciales o
busque el entrenamiento de un operador ex-
perimentado antes de realizar cualquier opera-
ción con la que no esté familiarizado. Por sobre
todo, la seguridad es primero.
ALTURA DEL HUSILLO
La altura correcta del husillo es crucial en la
mayoría de las aplicaciones del trompo. Use
una pieza de madera de prueba para confir-
mar la altura correcta del husillo antes de cor-
tar madera costosa.
Para ajustar la altura del husillo, siga estos pa-
sos:
1. Afloje la perilla
del seguro del husillo
ubicada en el costado
del trompo como se
muestra en la figura 7.
2. Mueva la palanca
de la altura del husillo
como se muestra en la
figura 8 hacia la dere-
cha para elevar el hu-
sillo y hacia la izquier-
da para bajarlo.
3. Reapriete la perilla del seguro del husillo al
costado del trompo. NO sobre apriete la peri-
lla. Solo se necesita una leve tensión para evitar
que el husillo se mueva durante la operación.
SENTIDO DEL GIRO DEL HUSILLO
El modelo TR701A es
capaz de operar en
dos direcciones usan-
do el interruptor de
Avance/Reversa mos-
trado en la figura 9.
Es muy importante que la pieza de trabajo
sea alimentada en contra del sentido de giro
dla fresa de corte. Esto evitará un corte ascen-
dente y mantendrá un procedimiento de cor-
te seguro para el operador. La mayoría de las
operaciones son realizadas con el interruptor
en la posición de AVANCE. Sin embargo, habrá
ocasiones en las que será necesario darle vuelta
al cortador del trompo y el husillo tenga que
funcionar en la dirección contraria (REVERSA).
• Cuando la posición del interruptor este en
AVANCE, el husillo y la fresa de corte girarán
en sentido contrario a las manecillas del reloj
(sentido anti-horario).
• Cuando la posición del interruptor este en
REVERSA, el husillo y la fresa de corte girarán
en el sentido de las manecillas del reloj (senti-
do horario).
COLOCACIÓN DE LA GUÍA
Las dos caras de la guía son ajustables de ma-
nera independiente para permitir diferentes
tareas de corte. Las caras de la guía pueden
ajustarse en diferentes posiciones para remo-
ver material de todo el borde de la madera o
ser ajustadas en la misma posición para traba-
jar solo una parte del borde.
Para ajustar la guía, siga estos pasos:
1. Afloje la manija del
seguro de montaje de
la guía mostrado en la
figura 10.
2. Ajuste la posición
de la guía girando la
perilla de ajuste mos-
trada en figura 10.
3. Una vez que la guía este en la posición de-
seada, apriete hacia abajo la manija del seguro
de la guía.
ALINEACIÓN DE LA GUÍA
Antes de comenzar, verifique que las dos caras
de la guía estén paralelas.
Para alinear las guías de modo que estén para-
lelas, siga estos pasos:
1. Consiga una regla de calidad que sea sufi-
cientemente larga para abarcar el largo del
ensamble de la guía.
2. Ajuste las caras de la guía de manera que
estén tan cerca como sea posible de la misma
posición paralela.
3. Mantenga la regla
a lo largo de ambas
caras de la guía como
se muestra en la figu-
ra 11.
4. Si las caras de la guía no están paralelas, co-
loque cuñas entre la parte trasera de la guía y
la cara de la base de la guía. Con algo de prue-
ba y error del ajuste con cuñas, se puede con-
seguir que las caras de la guía estén paralelas.

INSERTOS DE LA MESA

son provistos para lo-

Use la apertura de me-
nor tamaño para evitar
que caigan demasiadas
virutas de madera den-
tro de la máquina.
Usar la apertura de menor tamaño también cu-
bre cualquier porción que no se utilice de las
partes debajo de la mesa, lo que reduce la pro-
babilidad de que el operario sufra una lesión.
RODAMIENTOS GUÍA
Cuando se moldean piezas que tienen formas
irregulares, los rodamientos guía son necesa-
rios. Existen 2 tipos de rodamientos guía: só-
lidos y de bolsas de soporte. Están disponibles
en diferentes diámetros y pueden ser adqui-
ridos individualmente o en juegos. Algunos
ejemplos de cuando se debe usar un rodamien-
to guía son cuando se tiene un arco elevado o
paneles, tablas redondas o cualquier otro corte
que necesite tener profundidad de corte limi-
tada. Consulte los ejemplos de ajuste.
NOTA: Antes de instalar los cortadores, se debe
planear la configuración de rodamiento guía
y los cortadores necesarios para la aplicación
que se intente.

Existen tres tipos de arreglos para colocar los:
ARRIBA DEL CORTADOR como se muestra en la
figura 13. Este arreglo es el más seguro y pro-
duce los resultados más consistentes.
ENTRE DOS CORTADORES como se muestra en
la figura 14. Este arreglo tiene la ventaja de
hacer dos cortes de perfil en una sola pasada.
DEBAJO DEL CORTADOR como se muestra en
la figura 15. Este arreglo permite que el corte
sea visto por el operador; sin embargo, es al
mismo tiempo el más peligroso ya que el ope-
rador está expuesto al movimiento de la fresa
de corte.
¡NO RECOMENDAMOS TRABAJAR CON EL RO-
DAMIENTO GUÍA DEBAJO DE EL CORTADOR!
Para instalar los cortadores y los rodamientos
guía, siga estos pasos:
1. DESCONECTE EL TROMPO DE LA FUENTE DE
ALIMENTACIÓN.
2. Deslice la fresa de corte y rodamientos guía
en el husillo en la orientación correcta para el
corte que se pretenda.
3. Coloque la arandela de seguridad y la tuerca
como se muestra en la figura 16.
4. Enrosque y apriete la tuerca del husillo ha-
cia abajo con la llave de 23 mm que se provee
mientras sostiene el husillo con la llave de 8mm
como se muestra en la figura 17.
5. Asegúrese que la fresa de corte gire libre-
mente en la dirección correcta que se necesita
para el corte (en la mayoría de los casos esta
es la posición de AVANCE en el interruptor de
AVANCE/REVERSA, la cual es en sentido con-
trario de las manecillas del reloj para el giro
husillo)
6. Instale las guardas de seguridad aplicables.
MANTENIMIENTO
El mantenimiento periódico de su trompo ase-
gurará su rendimiento óptimo. Cultive el há-
bito de inspeccionar su trompo cada vez que
vaya a utilizarlo.
Verifique las siguientes condiciones y repárelas
o reemplácelas cuando sea necesario:
• Pernos la estructura ojos.
• Interruptores desgastados.

• Cables y/o conectores dañados o ojos.
• Correa de transmisión dañada.
• Cualquier otra condición que pueda impedir
la operación segura de esta máquina.
MESA Y BASE
Limpiar el trompo es relativamente sencillo.
Aspire el exceso de aserrín y virutas de madera
y limpie el polvo con una tela seca. Si alguna
resina ha sido derramada, use un solvente de
resina para limpiarla.
Proteja las partes de metal de la mesa que no
estén pintadas limpiando la mesa antes de
cada uso. Esto asegura que la humedad que
pudiera acumularse en el residuo de madera
no permanezca en las superficies de metal des-
protegidas. Mantenga la mesa libre de óxido
con la aplicación regular de protectores de
metal de calidad.
LUBRICACIÓN
Ya que todos los rodamientos están sellados
y lubricados de manera permanente, simple-
mente ignórelos hasta que necesiten ser rem-
plazados. No los lubrique por su cuenta.
Para otros accesorios de esta máquina, una
aplicación ocasional de lubricante ligero para
maquinaría es todo lo que se necesita. Antes
de aplicar lubricante limpie el aserrín y cual-
quier residuo que pudiera tener la máquina.
Su meta es conseguir una lubricación adecua-
da. El exceso de lubricante atraerá polvo y ase-
rrín. Como consecuencia varias partes de su
máquina podrían perder su libertad de movi-
miento.
PROGRAMA DE MANTENIMIENTO
Diario:
• Aspire todo el polvo alrededor y sobre la má-
quina.
• Limpie mesas y cualquier otra parte de metal
sin pintar con un protector de metales.
Cada mes:
• Tensión de la banda-V, daño o desgaste.
• Limpiar/aspirar polvo depositado en gabinete
interior y fuera del motor.
SERVICIO
AJUSTE DE LA BANDA
Su trompo usa una banda plana sobre dos po-
leas de tipo tambor, para compensar las dife-
rentes posiciones de la banda que se requieran
para las diferentes alturas del husillo.
Para ajustar la banda, siga estos pasos:
1. DESCONECTE EL
TROMPO DE LA FUEN-
TE DE ALIMENTACIÓN.
2. Afloje los pernos
de ajuste de la banda
como se muestra en la
figura 18.
3. Deslice el motor para incrementar o decre-
mentar la tensión de la banda para lograr que
la banda este ajustada con una deflexión de
aproximadamente 1/4"cuando presione ligera-
mente con la punta de sus dedos.
4. Apriete los pernos de ajuste de la banda.
REMPLAZO DEL CARTUCHO DEL HUSILLO
Si fallara un rodamiento, su trompo comenza-
ría una vibración notable, la cual incrementa-
ría cuando la máquina estuviera operando. Si
permite que empeore, podría ocurrir un sobre-
calentamiento del pivote que contiene el roda-
miento en mal estado, lo que a su vez podría
causar que el rodamiento se amarre y dañe po-
siblemente otras partes de la máquina.
Para remplazar el montaje del cartucho del husillo:
1. DESCONECTE EL TROMPO DE LA FUENTE DE
ALIMENTACIÓN!
2. Remueva el husillo y la barra de tiro del
montaje del cartucho del husillo. (Remueva la
tuerca cónica de la barra de tiro y golpeteé la
barra de tiro hacia arriba para aflojarla).
3. Quite la cubierta de
la polea del husillo re-
moviendo los dos per-
nos de montaje mos-
trados en la figura 19.
4. Afloje los dos pernos de montaje del motor,
deslice el motor hacia adelante y remueva la
banda-V.
5. Afloje la perilla de
fijación del husillo.
6. Remueva la tuer-
ca del cartucho en la
parte inferior del hu-
sillo, como se muestra
en la figura 20, y deslice la polea hacia afuera.

7. Mantenga su mano bajo el cartucho del husi-
llo y remueva la manija de elevación desenros-
cándola en sentido contrario a las manecillas
del reloj. El cartucho del husillo debería caer
en su mano.
8. Instale el nuevo cartucho en orden inverso a
la extracción.
RESTAURACIÓN DE LA SUPERFICIE DE LA GUÍA
La superficie de la guía puede ser restaurada
o rebajarse con una canteadora para corregir
cualquier deformación. Este procedimiento
debe realizarse solo si no las vallas no alinea-
ran una con la otra después de su cuidadoso
ajuste o si están deformadas.
Para restaurar la superficie de la guía, siga
estos pasos:
1. Asegúrese de que los tornillos de montaje de
la cara de la guía están lo suficientemente lejos
debajo de la superficie de la guía de modo que
no entren en contacto con las navajas de la
canteadora durante la operación.
Nota: Las caras de la guía nuevas pueden ser
fácilmente hechas de madera dura y ser restau-
radas con el mismo procedimiento.
2. Alinee ambas caras de la guía tan recto como
sea posible, usando una regla o la mesa de la
canteadora como guía.

GENERAL SAFETY RULES
Your WOOD SHAPER has many features that
will make your job faster and easier. Safety,
performance and reliability have been given
top priority in the design of this tool, qualities
to make easy to maintain and to operate.
WARNING: Read and understand all in-
structions. Failure to follow all indications list-
ed below, may result in electric shock, fire and/
or serious personal injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
SAFETY IN WORKING AREA
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Clut-
tered benches and dark areas may cause acci-
dents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmo-
spheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases or dust. Some power tools create
sparks which may provoke fire.
Keep away observers, children and visitors
while operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control.
ELECTRIC SAFETY
Double insulation eliminates the need for the
three wire grounded power cord and ground-
ed power supply system.
Avoid the body contact with grounded surfac-
es such as pipes, radiators and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if
your body is grounded.
Don’t expose power tools to rain or wet condi-
tions. The presence of water into power tools
will increase the risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse of the power cord. Never use the
power cord to carry the tool and do not pull
the plug off the outlet. Keep the cable away of
heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace
damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords
increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating a power tool outside, use an
outdoor extension cord marked “W-A” or “W”.
These cords are rated for outdoor use and re-
duce the risk of electric shock.
EXTENSION CORDS
Replace damaged cords immediately. The use
of damaged cords can shock, burn or electric
shock. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord
with adequate size conductors should be used
to prevent excessive voltage drop, loss of pow-
er or overheating. The table below shows the
correct size to use, depending on cord length
and nameplate amperage rating of tools. In
case of doubt use the next heavier gauge. Al-
ways use UL listed extension cords.
SIZE RECOMMEND EXTENSION CABLES
PERSONAL SAFETY
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool.
Don't use the tool if you are tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A
moment of inattention while operating power
tools may cause a serious personal injury.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing
or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away of moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be
caught in moving parts.
Avoid an accidental starting. Be sure that the
switch is OFF before plugging in. Carrying
tools with the finger on the switch or plug in
the tool switch in ON may cause accidents.
Remove the adjusting keys or wrenches be-
fore turning the tool on. A wrench or a key
that is left close to a rotating part of the tool
may provoke a personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and
balance at all times. Proper footing and bal-
ance enables better control of the tools on un-
expected situations.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye pro-
tection. Dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard
hat, or hearing protection must be used for ap-
propriate conditions.
Before connecting the tool to a power source
(receptacle, outlet, etc.) be sure that the volt-
age supplied is the same as that one specified
on the nameplate of the tool. To use a not
specified voltage may cause a serious injury to
the user as well as damage the tool.

IMPORTANT: This appliance is not intended
for use by persons (including children) with re-
duced physical, sensory or mental capabilities
may be different or reduced, or lack of experi-
ence or knowledge, unless such persons are su-
pervised or trained to operate the product by
a person responsible for their safety. Children
should be supervised to ensure they do not use
the devices as toys.
TOOL USE AND CARE
Do not force the power tool. Use the correct
tool for the application. The correct tool will
do the job better and more safely at the rate
that it was designed to work at.
Do not use tools if switch does not turn it on
or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with
the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source
before making any adjustments, changing ac-
cessories or storing the tool. This preventive
safety measures reduce the risk of accidental
starting of the tool.
When the power tool is not in use, store it out
of the reach of children, and do not allow in-
dividuals who are not familiar with the power
tool or these instructions to operate it. Power
tools are dangerous in the hands on untrained
users.
Maintain the power tool. Check for misalign-
ment or binding of moving parts, broken parts,
and any other condition that may affect the
operation of the power tool. If it is damaged,
have it repaired before using. Many accidents
are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
Check for misalignment or bonding of moving
parts, breakage parts, and any other condition
that may affect the tools operation. If you find
a damaged tool, take it to service before use it.
Use only accessories that are recommended by
the manufacturer of your model. Suitable ac-
cessories for one tool, may become hazardous
when are used on another tool.
Keep cutting tools, sharpened and clean. Cut-
ting tools in good condition with sharpened
edges, are less likely to stuck in workpieces or
easier to control.
Is recommendable to use a safety device suit-
able, such a thermal and differential switch
when you are using an electric equipment.
SERVICE
Tool service must be performed only by quali-
fied repair personnel. Service or maintenance
performed by unqualified personnel could re-
sult in a risk of injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR
WOOD SHAPERS
1. KEEPING HANDS SAFE: Never pass your
hands near or directly over or in front of the
cutter. As one hand approaches the 12-inch ra-
dius point, move it in an arc motion away from
the cutter to the out feed side and reposition
that hand more than 12 inches beyond the cut-
ter.
2. HOLDING AND UNSAFE WORKPIECE: DO
NOT shape stock shorter than 12 inches with-
out special fixtures or jigs. Where practical,
shape longer stock and cut to size.
3. CUTTER POSITIONING: Keep the cutters on
the underside of the workpiece whenever pos-
sible to reduce operator exposure to the mov-
ing cutter.
4. TESTING FOR CLEARANCE: Unplug the
shaper, and always rotate the spindle by hand
to test any new setup to ensure proper cutter
clearance before starting the shaper.
5. SAFELY STARTING AND FEEDING WORK-
PIECE: When shaping contoured work and
using a rub collar, NEVER start shaping at a cor-
ner. See the rub collar section further on in the
manual. The danger of kick-back is increased
when the stock has knots, holes, or foreign
objects in it.
6. PREPARING A WORKPIECE: Always run
warped stock through a jointer before you run
it through the shaper. An warped workpiece is
difficult to process, which increases the risk of
an accident.
7. CUTTER EXPOSURE: Keep any unused por-
tion of the cutter below the table surface.
8. AVOIDING AN OVERLOAD: Never attempt to
remove too much material in one pass. Several
light passes are safer and give a cleaner finish.
9. SAFELY FEEDING A WORKPIECE: In most ap-
plications it is advisable to use a push stick as
a safety device; in others it can be quite dan-
gerous. If the push stick comes in contact with
the cutter on the end grain, it can be violently
propelled from your hand—potentially causing

serious injury. We recommend using some type
of fixture, jig, or hold-down device as a safer
alternative. And ALWAYS use a guard or other
type of protective device at all times.
10. AVOIDING CUTTER AND WORKPIECE GRAB:
Always make sure cutter is positioned in the
correct direction before starting shaper, and
always feed against the rotation of the cutter.
11. SAFELY USING ALTERNATE TABLE CONFIGU-
RATIONS: Always use overhead guard when
the fence is not in place. The overhead guard
reduces the risk of contacting the cutterhead.
12. SAFE CUTTER INSTALLATION: Never oper-
ate the shaper without verifying that the
spindle nut is tight. A tight spindle nut reduces
the risk of the cutter or rub collars flying off
during operation.

UNPACKING AND ASSEMBLY
UNPACKING
WARNING: This wood shaper is a heavy
machine. DO NOT over-exert yourself while
unpacking or moving your machine, you will
need assistance. Serious personal injury may
occur if safe moving methods are not followed.
CLEAN UP
The unpainted surfaces are coated with a waxy
oil to protect it from corrosion during ship-
ment. Remove this protective coating with
a solvent cleaner or citrus-based degreaser.
Avoid chlorine-based solvents as they may
damage painted surfaces should they come in
contact. Always follow the usage instructions
on the product you choose for clean up.
WARNING: Do not use gasoline or other
petroleum-based solvents. They have low flash
points, which make them extremely flam-
mable. A risk of explosion and burning exists
if these products are used. Serious personal
injury may occur if this warning is ignored.
CAUTION: Many of the solvents commonly
used to clean machinery can be toxic when
inhaled or ingested. Always work in well-venti-
lated areas far from potential ignition sources
when dealing with solvents. Use care when
disposing of waste rags and towels to be sure
they do not create fire or environmental haz-
ards. Keep children and animals safely away
when cleaning and assembling this machine.
WARNING: Do not smoke while using sol-
vents. A risk of explosion or fire exists and may
be the result serious personal injury may occur.
SITE CONSIDERATIONS
FLOOR LOAD. This jointer represents a mod-
erate weight load in a small footprint. Most
commercial or home shop floors should be
sufficient to carry the weight. If you question
the strength of your floor, you may wish to
check with an architect or structural engineer
in your area to make certain it can handle the
load.
WORKING CLEARANCES
Working clearances can be thought of as the
distances between machines and obstacles that
allow safe operation of every machine without
limitation. Consider existing and anticipated
machine needs, size of material to be processed
through each machine, and space for auxiliary
stands and/or work tables. Also consider the
relative position of each machine to one an-
other for efficient material handling. Be sure

to allow yourself sufficient room to safely run
your machines in any foreseeable operation.
ASSEMBLY
WARNINGS
· Disconnect from power source when perform-
ing any maintenance, assembly or adjustment.
Failure to do this may result in serious personal
injury.
· Keep loose clothing rolled up and out of the
way of machinery and keep hair pulled back.
· Wear safety glasses during the entire assem-
bly process. Failure to comply may result in seri-
ous personal injury.
ASSEMBLING SHAPER TO STAND
1. Lay one stand side
on the ground and
attach the cross bars
with the carriage
bolts, washers, and
hex nuts as shown in
figure 1. DO NOT fully
tighten the nuts and
bolts at this time.
2. Attach the second stand side to the assem-
bly.
Note: At this point, the assembly will be some-
what wobbly. Have an assistant hold the as-
sembly in place while you attach the nuts and
bolts.
3. Place the shaper
table upside down
on two sturdy blocks
that are at least off
the ground as shown
in figure 2. Make sure
the spindle DOES NOT touch the ground or the
weight of the shaper may damage the spindle.
4. Place the stand assembly on the shaper and
attach it with the carriage bolts, washers, and
hex nuts as shown in figure 4.
5. Have an assistant help you turn the shaper
unit over.
6. Level the shaper, then tighten all of the as-
sembly bolts on the stand.
NOTE: Sheet steel will often “spring” after it
has been fabricated at the factory, occasion-
ally making it difficult to line up precisely with
other parts without a bit of effort. Do not be
surprised if the stand requires a bit of “persua-
sion” to fit together.
On the other hand, if the parts just do not
seem to work together, try switching parts
around (such as the tie bars).
7. Using the head
screws, and washers,
install each fence
facing to the fence
mount brackets as
shown in figure 3.
8. For custom fence facing, make sure the
screw heads are countersunk completely below
the surface of the fence face.
9. Connect the safety
guard bar to the safe-
ty guard shaft with
two bolts and the flat
washers. See figure 4.
10. Connect the safety guard to the safety
guard bar with two head screws and nuts.
11. Position the extension bar and safety guard
on the main fence housing and install the T-
lock handle.
12. Position the guard as close as possible to
the spindle/ cutter without impeding the feed-
ing path of the workpiece.
13. Place an 8mm
open-end wrench on
top the spindle (see
figure 5).
14. Using a 14mm
open-end wrench on
the drawbar nut, (fig-
ure 6), make sure the
drawbar nut is tight,
but DO NOT over-
tighten the drawbar
nut.
NOTE: This is an important safety measure that
must be done before the Test Run on the next
page.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
Complete this process once you have familiar-
ized yourself with all instructions in this manu-
al. To test run the shaper, do these steps:
1. Read the entire instruction manual first, so
you are familiar with all controls and functions
of the shaper.

2. Connect your machine to the power source.
3. Turn the shaper ON. The shaper should run
smoothly with little or no vibration.
OPERATION
DO NOT investigate problems or adjust the
Machine Name while it is running.
Wait until the machine is turned OFF, un-
plugged and all working parts have come to a
complete stop before proceeding.
This machine will perform many types of oper-
ations that are beyond the scope of this manu-
al. Many of these operations can be dangerous
or deadly if performed incorrectly.
The instructions in this section are written with
the understanding that the operator has the
necessary knowledge and skills to operate this
machine. If at any time you are experiencing
difficulties performing any operation, stop us-
ing the machine.
If you are an inexperienced operator, we
strongly recommend that you read books,
trade articles, or seek training from an expe-
rienced operator before performing any unfa-
miliar operations. Above all, your safety should
come first.
SPINDLE ELEVATION
Correct spindle height is crucial to most shap-
ing applications. Use a piece of test wood to
confirm the correct spindle height before cut-
ting expensive lumber.
To set the spindle height, do these steps:
1. Loosen the spindle
lock knob located on
the side of the shaper
as shown in figure 7.
2. Move the spindle
height lever shown in
figure 8 to raise the
spindle or left to low-
er the spindle.
3. Retighten the spindle lock knob on the side
of the shaper. DO NOT over-tighten the knob.
Only a small amount of tension is needed to
keep the spindle from moving during opera-
tion.
SPINDLE DIRECTION
The model TR701A is
capable of operating
in two directions by
use of the forward
and reverse switch
shown in figure 9.
It is very important that the workpiece be fed
against the direction of the cutter rotation.
This will prevent a climb cut and maintains a
safe cutting procedure for the operator. Most
operations are done with the switch in the
FWD position. However, there will be times
when it is necessary to flip the shaper cutter
over and run the spindle in the opposite direc-
tion (REV).
• When the switch is pointing to the FWD po-
sition, the spindle and cutter rotate counter-
clockwise.
• When pointing to the REV position, the spin-
dle and cutter rotate clockwise.
FENCE POSITIONING
The two fence faces are independently adjust-
able to allow for different shaping tasks. The
fence faces can be set at different positions
to remove material from the entire edge of
the wood stock or set at the same position to
shape part of the edge.
To adjust the fence, do these steps:
1. Loosen the fence
mount lock handle
shown in figure 10.
2. Adjust the position
of the fence by turn-
ing the adjustment
knob shown in figure
10.
3. Once the fence is in the desired position,
tighten down the fence mount lock handle.
FENCE ALIGNMENT
Before shaping, check that the two fence faces
are parallel. To align the fences so they are par-
allel with each other, do these steps:
1. Get a quality straightedge that is long

3. Hold the straight-
edge across both of
the fence faces as
shown in figure 11.
4. If the fence faces are not parallel, place
shims between the back of the fence face and
the face of the fence mount. With some trial
and error shim adjusting, parallel fence faces
can be achieved.
TABLE INSERTS
Two inserts (figure 12)
are provided allow-
ing for three differ-
ent opening sizes to
be achieved. Use the
smallestsize opening
for a cutter to reduce
wood chips falling
into the machine.
Using the smallest-size opening also covers any
unused portion of the bit below the surface of
the table, thus reducing the chance of opera-
tor injury.
RUB COLLARS
When irregularly pieces are shaped, rub collars
are required. There are 2 types of rub collars:
solid and stand bags. They are available in dif-
ferent diameters and may be purchased indi-
vidually or in sets. Examples of when to use a
rub collar is with a high arch or panels, round
tables or other cut that needs to have limited
depth of cut. See examples of adjustment.
NOTE: Before installing cutters, you must plan
the configuration of rub collars and cutters re-
quired for the intended application.
Rub collars limit the
depth of cut and are
typically used with
most cutters, depend-
ing on the profile and
type of cut being per-
formed. (figure 13).
There are three set up positions for rub collars:
ABOVE THE CUTTER as shown in figure 13. This
setup is the safest and
produces the most consistent results.
BETWEEN TWO CUTTERS as shown in figure 14.
This setup has the advantage of making two
profile cuts in a single pass.
BELOW THE CUTTER as shown in figure 15. This
setup allows the cut to be viewed by the op-
erator; however, it is also the most dangerous
because the operator is exposed to the moving
cutter.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND SHAPING WITH A
RUB COLLAR BELOW THE CUTTER!
To install cutters and rub collars, do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT SHAPER FROM POWER
SOURCE!
2. Slide the cutter(s) and rub collars onto the
spindle in the correct orientation for your in-
tended cut.
3. Install the keyed safety washer and nut as
shown in figure 16.
4. Thread on and tighten down the spindle
nut with the provided 23mm wrench, while
holding the spindle at the top with an 8mm
wrench, as shown in figure 17.
5. Make sure the cutter rotates freely in the
correct direction needed for the cut (in most
cases this is the FWD direction on the FWD/
REV switch, which is counterclockwise on the
spindle).
6. Install applicable safety guard(s).
MAINTENANCE
Regular periodic maintenance on your Shaper
will ensure its optimum performance. Make a
habit of inspecting your shaper each time you
use it. Check for the following conditions and
repair or replace when necessary:

• Loose mounting bolts.
• Worn switch.
• Worn or damaged cords and plugs.
• Damaged drive belt.
• Any other condition that could hamper the
safe operation of this machine.
TABLE & BASE
Cleaning the Shaper is relatively easy. Vacuum
excess wood chips and sawdust, and wipe off
the remaining dust with a dry cloth. If any resin
has built up, use a resin dissolving cleaner to
remove it. Protect the unpainted cast iron sur-
faces on the table by wiping the table clean af-
ter every use this ensures moisture from wood
dust does not remain on bare metal surfaces.
Keep tables rust-free with regular applications
of a quality metal protection.
LUBRICATION
Since all bearings are shielded and perma-
nently lubricated, simply leave them alone un-
til they need to be replaced. Do not lubricate
them.
For other items on this machine, an occasional
application of light machine oil is all that is
necessary. Before applying lubricant, clean off
sawdust. Your goal is to achieve adequate lu-
brication. Too much lubrication will attract dirt
and sawdust. Various parts of your machine
could lose their freedom of movement as a
result.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Daily:
• Vacuum all dust on and around the machine.
• Wipe down tables and all other unpainted
cast iron with a metal protectant.
Every Month:
• V-belt tension, damage, or wear.
• Clean/vacuum dust buildup from inside cabi-
net and off of motor.
SERVICE
BELT ADJUSTMENT
Your shaper uses a flat-type belt on two drum-
style pulleys, to compensate for different belt
positions as the spindle height is adjusted.
To adjust belt, do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT
SHAPER FROM POW-
ER SOURCE!
2. Loosen the belt
adjustment bolts as
shown in figure 18.
3. Slide the motor position to increase or de-
crease belt tension, so the belt is snug with
about 1/4" deflection when pressed lightly
with your fingertips.
4. Tighten the belt adjustment bolts.
SPINDLE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Should a bearing fail, your shaper will prob-
ably develop a noticeable rumble, which will
increase when the machine is put under load.
If allowed to get worse, overheating of the
journal containing the bad bearing could oc-
cur, which may cause the bearing to seize and
possibly damage other parts of the machine.
To replace the spindle cartridge assembly:
1. DISCONNECT SHAPER FROM POWER
SOURCE!
2. Remove the spindle and drawbar from the
spindle cartridge assembly. (Remove tapered
drawbar nut and tap the drawbar up to knock
it loose.)
3. Take off the spindle
pulley cover by remov-
ing the two mounting
bolts shown in fig 19.
4. Loosen the two mo-
tor mount bolts, slide
the motor forward,
and remove the V-
belt.
5. Loosen the spindle
lock knob.
6. Remove the car-
tridge nut on the bot-
tom of the spindle, as
shown in fig 20, and
slide the pulley off.
7. Hold your hand under the spindle cartridge
and remove the elevation handle by unthread-
ing it counterclockwise. The spindle cartridge
should drop into your hand.
8. Install the new cartridge assembly in the re-
verse order of removal.

RESURFACING FENCE
The fence can be resurfaced or made flat with
a jointer to correct any warping. This proce-
dure should only be done if the fences will not
align with each other after careful adjustment
or they are warped.
To resurface the fence, do these steps:
1. Make sure the fence face mounting screws
are far enough below the surface of the fence
that they will not contact the jointer knives
during operation.
NOTE: New fence faces can easily be made
out of hard wood and resurfaced by using this
same procedure.
2. Align both fence faces as straight as possible,
using a straightedge or your jointer table as an
alignment guide.
3. Resurface the fenc-
es on the jointer, as
shown in figure 21.
