Adding Hard Drives

Hard Drive Installation Prerequisites
Pu rchase hard d rive s having the sa me capacity a nd using same i nterface wi th the pre-in stall ed ones .
Ha rd dis k drives (HDD) are purchas ed sepa rate ly. Wh en selecting HDDs, H DD manu fact urer s always urge
us ers to choose enterp rise/ surveilla nce grade drives for 24/7 s urveillance operatio ns to ensure sy stem stability.
Th e surveilla nce hard driv es on our Approved Vend or List (AVL) are en ginee red to w ork con tinuously, withstand
hi gh-temperatur e fluctuati ons and e quipment vi brat ions found in any ty pical s urve illan ce appl ication.
To redu ce errors occ urred on your RAID data and th e chance of the r ecording pe rformance b eing affected,
it i s highly reco mmend ed to use HDDs li sted on o ur Approve d Ve ndor Li st (AVL) to ensure r eliability.

Inserting Hard Drive into Drive Tray
1. O pen the front panel of the EMR s ystem .
2. P ress the rele ase button (i ndicated by t he blu e arro w)
on t he bezel, the b ezel panel sh ould open automati cally
an d gently pull o ut the ha rd dri ve tray.
3. P lace the hard d rive i nto the d rive t ray.

tray an d its lab el side facing up. Adjust
th e drive’s l ocation unt il the mo unting
ho les in the drive tray are aligned w ith
th ose on the hard d rive . Secure the drive
wi th fou r suppl ied flat head s crews.

4. With th e tray bezel open, insert t he hard drive and
tray in to the system enclos ure.
5. C lose the tra y beze l.
6. U se the small flat blad e screw drive r to turn the bez el lock
from the u nlock to lock p ositi on.
7. Repea t abov e steps to inst all oth er hard drives.
8. C lose the syst em front pane l when you are do ne installing

● Insert the LAN Cable to the LAN Port to a local network where your IP Camera reside.
(Connection to analog cameras is also available via an IP encoder).
● Connect an external monitor capable of 32 bit or higher color quality to the VGA port to view the
VMS interface.
Insert mouse, keyboard to the USB for operating VMS on the SMR system.

2 Bay Models
1. Attach the po wer cab le to the power socket on the re ar panel.

3. S ee if the s ystem LED is bl inkin g, which mean s that th e system
is s tarting up.
4. See if th e netwo rk LED has turn ed green, which indi cates that
th e power is on and n etwor k is connecte d.
5. S ee if the H DD LED is on, whi ch means that the hard drive c an
be a cces sed.

2. M ake su re the safety switc h on the rear pan el is swi tched to the “- ”
si de, which mea ns that i t is turned on.

th e power is on and n etwor k is connecte d.

7. The Server name and the I P address wil l be show n on the LCD screen.

Wh en you r un the SM R series for the first time, you nee d to go through the followin g steps
wi thin the Inst all Wiz ard af ter log ging in.
1. C hoose your la nguage from the dro p-dow n list.

Cl ick “Next” t o go to the n ext step Confirm the number of y our ha rd drives.
3. Recording plan: Selec t the bes t storage co nfigu ration for t he system.
Note: Date/T ime sho uld be se t correctly b efor e reco rding.
4. Time : Time se tup should be d one cor rect ly, otherwi se some o f the fu nctio ns will be affected .
Se t up the time zon e befo re setting up the time.
2. Conf irm the number of your hard dri ves: t he syst em will auto de tect th e number of ins talle d hard drives .
Ch eck if the dete ction result is corr ect, if yes, cl ick ”Yes and proceed” or “Next ” to go to the next s tep
Recording plan.
If t he detectio n resul t is not as expec ted, cl ick ” No a nd shu tdow n”. Sh utdow n the system an d make s ure
al l the drives are installed p roperly. Af ter checkin g, restart the syste m to run th e install wiz ard.
Co ntact your sy stem admini stra tor, if th is error keep s happening .
3- 1. Def ault r ecording behavior: Selec t the bes t reco rding metho d. When Always recording is sel ected,
every im age wil l be recorded . When Motio n reco rdin g is selected , only mo tion detect ed imag es will b e
record ed, and approxima tely 25 ~60% stora ge can be s aved a ccor ding to the lev els of motion d etect ion
se nsitivities you have set.

Time synchron ization can b e appli ed to all conne cted ca mera s.
You c an also make this NVR a s time se rver s o that th e time synchr onization can be app lied to all
the conn ected d evice s.
You c an have the ti me on the s ystem to be syn chronized w ith the N TP time serve r.
5. Basic Settings: You can ch ange or use the default acco unt.
Se lect the “Use default password” option, i f you wish to kee p the default passw ord.

Af ter th e wizard installa tion is done, you wil l see th e Live View page from the VMS.

6. Network:
Di fferent ne twork s etti ngs can b e applied to 2 LANs if th ere ar e 2 LANs on the sy stem.
It is reco mmend ed to select “Auto de tect”, sin ce the sy stem will detect if th ere is any
DH CP server availa ble. If yes, it w ill ass ign an IP addre ss.
You a lso can select “Use f ixed I P” to input the I P address of th is NVR an d make t his NVR as a DHCP
se rver. After se lecti ng, input the r elevant in formation a nd chec k “Ena ble DHCP service on this
NVR” to co nfirm the set ting.
Warning: Make sure that only 1 DHCP s erver is acti vated in you r system,
otherw ise it may caus e netwo rk errors.
Cl ick “Next” to go to the n ext step Summary.
7. Summa ry:
Th is page shows the setting re sults you have set so far. Che ck if the r esults are wh at you
wi shed for. If not , click on the items you wish to m odify to go bac k and set up agai n.
If you wis h to set up the local disp lay, you can c lick this item and go to t he Local disp lay page.
Local display: Sel ect the best me thod for your scena rio to have a balanced resou rce us age for the
qu ality of recordin g and local dis play.
8. Progressing: After cl ickin g “Nex t” on th e summa ry page , the wizard wi ll star t to initiali ze you r syste m.
Th is act will tak e a few mi nutes to comp lete. O nce it is done, t he syst em will reboot autom atically.

Cl ick “Fi nish” to clo se thi s window. Yo u can also add ca mera s later in the setup pag e.
Note: The syst em will r estart when the setting is c hange d.
