Safety Information
To ensure safe operation of the Power Prowler™, follow the instructions
carefully and observe the warning and caution messages listed below.
Failure to observe warnings can result in severe injury or death and can
damage the unit.
Notification Definition
The Power Prowler™ is designed for use on cabling systems with
or without voltage.
• The Voltage! Icon turns on when the voltage exceeds Safety
Extra Low Voltage (SELV) rating of 60 volts peak AC or DC
max.
• Internal components are protected to 600 volts RMS peak AC
or DC max.
• Operating the Power Prowler when a voltage source exceeds
600 volts RMS peak AC or DC max may damage the unit and
pose a safety hazard for the user.
Do not place equipment and its accessories in the trash. Items must
be properly disposed in accordance with local regulations.
• Do not use the Power Prowler or cables if they appear
damaged or the unit is not working properly.
• Verify the Power Prowler’s operation by testing a
known voltage.
• Do not use with voltages higher than the Power Prowler’s
rated voltage (600V).
• When connecting to energized cabling use appropriate
accessories that meet or exceed the cables voltages.
• Use with caution with voltages greater than 30V AC RMS, 42V
AC peak, or 60V DC.
• Disconnect circuit power and discharge high-voltage
capacitors when testing capacitance, continuity, diodes, or
resistance.
• Do not use around explosive or ammable gas.
• Use only test leads approved by a safety agency and that have
the same voltage, amperage, and category as the
Power Prowler.
• Before opening the battery door, remove any connected
adapters and cables.
• Always wear personal protective equipment when working
with the Power Prowler.
It is recommended to use caution when handling the probes and
cable connections on the Power Prowler™ when the Voltage!
Icon is present.

• Power on the Power Prowler.
• Use the left or right arrow buttons to highlight the DMM icon, then press enter
or use the DMM soft key .
• Use the left and right arrow buttons to select VDC, VAC, LoZ VAC, Continuity,
or Ohms.
• Press the Hold soft key to keep the displayed value on the screen.
• Press the Range soft key to manually select the range to be measured.
• To view the minimum and maximum measurements for AC and DC voltages,
select the Min/Max soft key .

How to Perform a Fault Location Test
• Power on the Power Prowler.
• Connect the Dual Banana to BNC Female adapter and alligator clip set to the
Power Prowler, then connect the cable under test.
• Select the Fault location icon using the right arrow button, then press the
enter button or press the ruler icon soft key .
• Use the left or right arrow buttons to scroll to the cable type to be tested.
»To edit an existing cable VOP, use the up and down arrows to change
the VOP. Once the desired VOP is displayed, press the save soft key.
To cancel, press the cancel soft key , or use the back arrow soft
key to return to the test screen without saving the adjusted
VOP. To restore the default VOP, press the default soft key.
»If the cable type is not listed, but the VOP is known, press the star soft
key to add a custom cable type.
»If the VOP is not known, connect to a known length of the same cable
type. Select the CAL soft key and adjust the length by pressing
the up/down arrows or press the soft keys under +50ft and -50ft
until the length of the cable is displayed. Press the test button to
discover the VOP or press the cancel soft key to cancel.

How to Perform a Live Event Detection Test
• Power on the Power Prowler.
• Connect the Dual Banana to BNC Female adapter and alligator clip set to the
Power Prowler, then connect the cable under test.
• Use the right arrow button to scroll to the Live Event Detection icon then
press the enter button or press the Live Event Detection soft key .
• Select cable type or edit VOP (refer to Fault Location instructions).
• Press the test button to begin the test.
• The Power Prowler will detect any changes to the cable (change in length,
open, or short condition). The Power Prowler will stop the test when a
change in the cable condition is detected. The graphic on the left side of the
screen will indicate if the change is an open or short condition.
• To stop the test, press the cancel soft key .
Note: See Power Prowler Settings for instructions on how to select if a
leader cable is or is not being used. The leader cable icon is displayed on
the top left of the screen when the leader cable is in use.

• Press the test button to perform a Fault location test. The graphic on
the left side of the screen will indicate if there is an open or a
short condition.

• Power on the Power Prowler.
• Press the settings soft key to enter the Power Prowler settings
menu
• Use the up and down arrows to select a setting.
• Use the left and right arrows to adjust the selected setting.
• Press the save soft key to save any edited settings.
• Press the cancel soft icon to cancel and exit the settings menu.

»To select ft/m and Leader/No Leader, use the up or down buttons to
highlight the ft/m option . Use the left or right buttons to select
the desired option.
