SEAT BELT MAINTENANCE
How to Care for Your Seat Belt System
Due to severe conditions of use, commercial or
vocational vehicle seat belts can wear sooner than
those in passenger cars. The seat belt in a
commercial or vocational vehicle must be considered
to have a finite life and must be replaced as needed
throughout the life of the vehicle.
The seat belt and components must be inspected
regularly. Inspect the seat belt at least every 20,000
miles or more often if exposed to severe environ-
mental or use conditions.
If you have any doubts about the condition or
function of the seat belt system, REPLACE IT.
If any component or part of the seat belt system
requires replacement, the entire belt system must be
replaced. Use only OEM (Original Equipment
Manufacturer) approved seat belt systems or
components.
If a vehicle is involved in a significant accident, the
entire seat belt system must be replaced.
Any seat belt system that shows cuts, fraying,
extreme or unusual wear, significant discolorations
due to ultraviolet exposure, dusty-dirty conditions,
abrasion to the seat belt webbing, or damage to the
buckle, latch plate, retractor, hardware or any other
obvious problem must be replaced immediately,
regardless of mileage.

Read complete installation guide
before installing seat belt.
Always use and follow the vehicle manufac-
turer's installation guide if available. Use this
installation guide in addition to the vehicle
manufacturer's guide.
This seat belt must be installed only in
vehicles which have anchorage points that
meet FMVSS 210 requirements.
Use fasteners that meet, or exceed, the
requirements identified in FMVSS 209. Use
of self-locking nuts is recommended when
bolts don't have thread lock patches.
Interior trim must not interfere with seat belt
flow. Seat belt must freely pull out when the
seat belt is latched, and fully retract when it
is unlatched.
Seat belt must not be allowed to rub against
any sharp edges. Excessive belt wear can
occur if seat, vehicle structure or trim
interferes with belt flow.
Be sure seat belt is not twisted during
installation.
The retractor must be handled with care. It
must never be dropped, adjusted, taken
apart or tampered with. If it is damaged or
there is a doubt that the belt functions
properly, DO NOT USE IT. Replace it with an
entirely new system.
Please note
This information is not all inclusive and will
not cover every seat, pedestal and vehicle
configuration.
Installer shall have sole responsibility for
proper selection, application, installation
and testing of the seat belt in accordance
with FMVSS207, 208 and 210 as amended, or

tion such as for use outside the U.S., and for
providing instructions to the ultimate user
concerning proper use and periodic
maintenance of the seat belts.
WARNING
Failure to install in accordance with
instructions can result in injury or death to
user. Read Carefully.
INSTALLATION:
1) Verify presense of all components. See Fig 1.
2) Verify presence of web fork.
The web fork prevents the belt from
retracting fully into the retractor and locking
the retractor. Keep web fork in place until
the retractor and shoulder guide is
completely installed. See Fig 1, item #9.
3) Mount the retractor. See Fig 2.
A. Mount the retractor to the floor, wall or
to seat mount using FMVSS 209 compliant
or better bolt with lock patch, washer & nut.
Retractor must be mounted perpendicular
(90˚) to the floor before the seat belt can be
extracted from the retractor.
B. Align retractor locating pin to B-pillar or
seat mount surface recess location. Torque
to 68 ft. lbs.
4) Mount the shoulder guide. See Fig 3.
A. Locate guide cap.
B. Pull out enough belt from retractor and
lock into place. Move the Web fork down to
position above the retractor to keep belt
from fully retracting.
C. Align T-50 bolt with mounting location in
B-Pillar. Secure to B-Pillar using T-50 bolt,
washer and nut. Torque to 68 ft. lbs.
D. Install guide cap.
4) Route belt through seat. See Fig 4.
A. Route the end bracket, belt and latch
plate through the upper seat hole before
installing the end bracket.
B. Snap seat guide cover into place.
5) Mount the seat belt end bracket. See Fig 5.
A. Using FMVSS 209 compliant or better
bolt with a lock nut, mount the end bracket
to the b-pillar, floor or seat mount
(depending on vehicle application). Torque
to 68 ft. lbs. Remove web fork.
6) Mount seat belt buckle assembly. See Fig 6.
A. Using FMVSS 209 compliant or better
bolt, washer and nut, mount the buckle
assembly to the floor or seat mount
(depending on vehicle application). Torque
to 68 ft. lbs.
