1. Getting started
Notes on BiDiB®
The BiDiB devi es des ribed in this manual omply with the standards
of the BiDiB spe ifi ation (status V0.7). The BiDiB spe ifi ation has
been published on: www.bidib.org.
BiDiB® is a registered trademark. Copyrights and trademarks to BiDiB
are held by Wolfgang Kufer, OpenDCC.de.
In order to in rease the readability of this text, we have dispensed with
referring to this with every use of the term BiDiB.
How to use this manual
This manual gives step-by-step instru tions for safe and orre t
onne ting of the module, and operation. Before you start, we advise
you to read the whole manual, parti ularly the hapter on safety
instru tions and the he klist for trouble shooting. You will then know
where to take are and how to prevent mistakes whi h take a lot of
effort to orre t.
Keep this manual safely so that you an solve problems in the future. If
you pass the module on to another person, please pass on the manual
with it.
Intended use
The module is designed to be operated a ording to the instru tions in
this manual in BiDiB- ontrolled model railway layouts. Any other use is
inappropriate and invalidates any guarantees.
The module should not be mounted by hildren under the age of 14.
Reading, understanding and following the instru tions in this manual
are mandatory for the user.

2. Safety instru tions
Caution:
The module ontains integrated ir uits. These are very sensitive to
stati ele tri ity. Do not tou h omponents without first dis harging
yourself. Tou hing a radiator or other grounded metal part will
dis harge you.
Mechanical ha ards
Cut wires an have sharp ends and an ause serious injuries. Wat h
out for sharp edges when you pi k up the PCB.
Visibly damaged parts an ause unpredi table danger. Do not use
damaged parts: re y le and repla e them with new ones.
Electrical ha ards
Tou hing powered, live omponents,
tou hing ondu ting omponents whi h are live due to malfun tion,
short ir uits and onne ting the ir uit to another voltage than
spe ified,
impermissibly high humidity and ondensation build up
an ause serious injury due to ele tri al sho k. Take the following
pre autions to prevent this danger:
Never perform wiring on a powered module.
Assembling and mounting the kit should only be done in losed,
lean, dry rooms. Beware of humidity.
Only use low power for this module as des ribed in this manual and
only use ertified transformers.
Conne t transformers and soldering irons only in approved mains
so kets installed by an authorised ele tri ian.
Observe able diameter requirements.

After ondensation build up, allow a minimum of 2 hours for
dispersion.
Use only original spare parts if you have to repair the kit or the
ready-built module.
Other dangers
Children an ause any of the a idents mentioned above be ause they
are inattentive and not responsible enough. Children under the age of
14 should not be allowed to work with this module.
In s hools, training entres, lubs and workshops, assembly must be
supervised by qualified personnel.
In industrial institutions, health and safety regulations applying to
ele troni work must be adhered to.

3. Operation overview
A ording to the BiDiB-spezifi ation devi es (so- alled "nodes") without
need for additional urrent for their basi fun tions (e.g. feedba k
modules) get the urrent they need via the bus able.
As a power supplier you an use:
BiDiB-devi es onne ted dire tly to a power supply (e.g. digital
entral unit, a essory de oders), whi h are designed to feed urrent
into the bus able
spe ifi BiDiB-power supplies
The module BiDi-Power is designed as a power supply for BiDiB-nodes
and an provide up to 500 mA urrent. For the onne tion of the PCB to
the BiDiBus Ethernet pat h able with RJ-45 onne tors are used – as
usual with BiDiB-devi es.

5. Conne tions
Placing in the bus cable
The module BiDi-Power an provide urrent for BiDiB-devi es only,
whi h are onne ted subsequently to the bus line (seen from the
interfa e´s dire tion). In order to exploit the urrent provided by BiDi-
Power, you should mount it into the bus line before the first BiDiB-
devi e to supply (seen from the interfa e´s dire tion).
In ase one BiDi-power is not suffi ient to supply all BiDiB-devi es in
one bus line, you an onne t further modules BiDi-Power to the bus
line.
In this example one module BiDi-Power supplies the nodes 2 and 3, another one node no. 4.
Before the first module BiDi-Power there is a node with own power supply onne ted to the
BiDiBus.

In order to onne t the module BiDi-Power to the BiDiBus you use
Ethernet pat h ables with RJ-45 onne tors.

auses serious damage to BiDi-
Power and other urrent suppliers
