Tefi Vintage Lab Cornucopia User manual

Te Vintage Lab is pleased to welcome you to our family. We hope
you enjoy using our new tube ovedrive Cornucopia. Feel free to get in
touch for any suggestions or clarications as to how you might best
use the effect. Play music and enjoy using our products!
Cornucopia - Tube overdrive
Color, presence, musicality: these are the most important features of
the renewed Cornucopia tube overdrive. Transferring the real tube
sound inside a stompbox is not at all easy; overall sound performan-
ce is due to the synergy between each section of the circuit. Noise,
background hum and performance degradation can quickly surface
when even a small part of the design process is not carefully checked.
The Cornucopia tube overdrive is the result of years spent improving
the design and engineering of our products. It is through this rigorous
approach that the 12AX7 tube can provide the best sound performan-
ce, symbolized by the Cornucopia in the hands of the God Tiberinus.
The strong personality of the 12AX7, controlled and regulated by
original J-FET circuits, provides a “tube colored” tone even through
transistor ampliers, making Cornucopia into a clean boost. For this
reason, we think of Cornucopia more as a miniature preamplier, to
be positioned in front of ampliers that need a warmer sound, rather
than as a simple overdrive pedal. The “BIAS” command improves the
12AX7 tube’s versatility, moving from a sweet and creamy overdrive
to a more dirty and asymmetrical distortion, but maintaining musi-
cality, in accordance with the most important rule of all TEFI Vintage
Lab designs.

CONNECTION AND USE
• Connectingtoinstrumentandamplier/gear: connect your instrument
(or gear effects chain) to the Input jack on the pedal’s upper-right side with a
6.3mm Jack instrument cable. Connect the output jack on the pedal’s upper-
left side to an amplier (or to the next effects in your chain) with a 6.3mm
Jack instrument cable.
• Power supply operating: connect the dedicated power adapter (12Vac
1A, supplied with pedal) to the 5.5mm power connector between the audio
Jack connectors. Plugging the power adapter into a 230Vca mains will cau-
se the porthole window on the tube to light up.
• Tubereplacing: The 12AX7 tube installed inside Cornucopia is carefully
selected by TEFI Vintage Lab for best performance results in its circuit de-
sign and does not require maintenance. However, if a replacement tube is
required, rst disconnect the power adapter from the mains supply. Care-
fully pull out the tube socket support base from the vertical guide and gen-
tly remove the 12AX7 from its socket.

CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS
Cornucopia uses a dedicated circuit designed by TEFI Vintage Lab that drives
the 12AX7 to obtain sonic results similar to those of a tube preamplier. It is
possible to get a good dynamic overdrive sound without having to set an ex-
cessive volume level on the guitar amplier to obtain the complete tube sound
potential, particularly loved by those who play Blues and Hard Rock.
GAIN: ranges from clean boost to light crunch. Rotating CW you will obtain
the pedal’s characteristic powerful overdrive.
VOLUME: sets the volume level post distortion. It can be used in conjunction
with the Gain control to obtain the overall desired output level.
CONTOUR: regulates the general tonal balance in a wide frequency range.
Turning fully CCW produces a warmer sound to compensate the response of
bright and trebly ampliers. Rotating CW gives more presence and lows, wi-
thout affecting the bass response.
Toggleswitch“SoftBias/HardBias”: this selects the settings (Bias) of the
12AX7, giving different sonic results. Set “Soft Bias” to obtain a sweet creamy
overdrive between clean and gentle saturation. Turn to “Hard Bias” and you
get more fuzzy and angry saturation, similar to the typical Hard Rock sounds
of the 70s.
