Safety Summary
To avoid potential hazards, use this product only
as specified.
To Avoid Fire or Personal Injury
Connect and disconnect properly. Connect the
TCA-VPI50 adapter to the host instrument before
connecting the device to the circuit-under-test.
Disconnect the device input and ground from the
circuit under test before disconnecting the device
from the adapter and host instrument.
Ground the product. This product is indirectly
grounded through the grounding conductor
of the host instrument power cord. To avoid
electric shock, the grounding conductor must
be connected to earth ground. Before making
connections to the input or output terminals
of the product, make sure that the product is
properly grounded.
Observe all terminal ratings. To avoid fire or
shock hazard, observe all ratings and markings
on the host instrument. Consult the host
instrument documentation for further ratings
information before making connections to the
host instrument.
Do not apply a potential to any terminal,
including the common terminal, that exceeds the
maximum rating of that terminal.
Do not operate without covers. Do not operate
this product with covers or panels removed.
Do not operate with suspected failures. If you
suspect there is damage to this product, have it
inspected by qualified service personnel.
Do not operate in wet/damp conditions.
Do not operate in an explosive atmosphere.
Keep product surfaces clean and dry.

Product Description
The TCA-VPI50 adapter lets you use 50 Ω
TekVPI®probes, or other devices driving
50 Ωloads, on Tektronix instruments that
have a TekConnect®interface. The adapter
recognizes and supplies the necessary power to
the connected TekVPI probe. The LED indicates
power availability to a connected probe.
Supported Probes
The TCA-VPI50 adapter supports the following
TekVPI probes:
TAP1500, TAP2500, TAP3500, TDP0500,
TDP1000, TDP1500, and TDP3500.
Installing the Adapter
1. Press and hold the release button and
insert the TCA-VPI50 adapter into the
TekConnect interface on the host instrument
until the adapter locks in place.
2. Connect a compatible TekVPI probe to the
adapter. An LED on the adapter turns on
to indicate that power is connected to the
attached TekVPI probe.
3. Connect the TekVPI probe to the
circuit-under-test.
Removing the Adapter
Remove the adapter and probe in the reverse
order of installation.
NOTE. You may need to remove the adapter to
install the instrument front cover.

Specifications
Bandwidth. DC to 4 GHz (TCA-VPI50 only).
See the host instrument specifications for the
overall system bandwidth.
Maximum input voltage. Do not exceed the
maximum input voltage rating of the host
instrument TekConnect interface.
VSWR. 1.15:1 up to 4 GHz (TCA-VPI50 only).
See the host instrument specifications for the
overall system VSWR.
Propagation delay. ~300 ps.
