FRONT
PANEL
DESCRIPTION
The
m anu al
controls
and
indicators
on
the
4661
front
panel
are
described
in
the
following
sect ion
.
The
controls
on
the
front
panel
are
used
to
set
the
Plot t er
for
operat ion
,
prior
to
the
input
of
dat a
from
the
Calculat or
.

Fig

.
PEN
Switch
.
The
PEN
switch
is
a
non
-
lat ching
pushbutton
which
changes
the
up
/
down
state
of
the
pen
when
pressed
.
If
the
pen
is
down
when
the
button
is
pressed
,
it
will
be
lifted
,
and
vice
-
versa
.
The
PEN
switch
will
have
no
effect
if
the
pen
is
held
up
by
a
Calculat or
generat ed
Off
-
Scale
m ove
.
POWER
Switch
.
The
POWER
Switch
is
a
rocker
type
.
The
power
-
on
cycle
causes
the
pen
bug
to
m ove
to
the
lower
right
corner
,
and
est ablishes
Zero
(
coordinate
values
X
=
,
Y
=
)
near
the
lower
left
corner
.
The
POWER
indicator
will
light
when
power
is
applied
to
the
Plot t er
.
Manual
Posit ioning
Switches
.
There
are
two
sets
of
Manual
Posit ioning
switches
,
with
three
non
-
lat ching
pushbuttons
per
set
.
The
left
-
hand
set
causes
pen
m ot ion
in
the
X
Axis
,
in
the
directions
indicated
by
the
arrows
on
the
front
panel
;
the
right
-
hand
set
causes
pen
m ot ion
in
the
Y
axis
,
in
the
directions
indicated
by
the
arrows
on
the
front
panel
.
BUSY
Indicator
.
The
BUSY
indicator
lights
when
the
Calculat or
is
com m unicat ing
with
the
Plot t er
,
or
when
the
Plot t er
is
engaged
in
a
m anu al
operat ion
which
activates
the
BUSY
circuit
in
the
4661
(
LOAD
,
PEN
,
or
SET
ZERO
)
.
The
BUSY
indicator
stays
on
for
an
additional
one
second
after
each
Calculat or
-
generat ed
PEN
,
SET
ZERO
,
or
Move
Operat ion
;
this
disables
front
panel
com m ands
during
the
Calculat or’s
calculat ion
t im e
between
plot t er
com m ands
.
The
exception
to
front
-
panel
control
disabling
is
the
LOAD
switch
;
a
LOAD
request
will
be
rem em bered
and
then
recognized
one
second
after
the
finish
of
any
Calculat or
-
generat ed
m ove
.
The
center
pushbutton
in
either
set
causes
fast
m ot ion
in
the
m oving
axis
,
when
only
one
axis
is
being
posit ioned
.
When
the
pen
is
being
posit ioned
in
both
axes
sim ult aneously
,
pressing
either
of
the
center
buttons
will
cause
fast
m ot ion
in
BOTH
axes
.
SET
ZERO
Switch
.
The
SET
ZERO
switch
is
a
non
lat ching
pushbutton
which
sets
the
X
and
Y
Zero
coor
dinates
to
the
current
pen
posit ion
.
LOAD
Switch
.
The
LOAD
switch
is
a
lat ching
pushbutton
.
When
it
is
locked
in
,
the
pen
lifts
from
the
surface
,
the
pen
carriage
m oves
to
the
right
border
,
and
the
electrost atic
paper
hold
is
disengaged
.
The
Plot t er
will
not
respond
to
Calculat or
com m ands
while
the
LOAD
switch
is
locked
in
.
When
the
LOAD
switch
is
released
by
pressing
it
again
)
,
the
electrost atic
paper
hold
is
engaged
and
the
Plot t er
can
again
respond
to
Calculat or
com
m ands
.
HALF
SCALE
Switches
.
The
HALF
SCALE
switches
are
two
lat ching
pushbuttons
which
enable
the
Half
Scale
m ode
for
either
axis
or
both
.
In
the
Half
Scale
m ode
,

the
Calculat or
are
plot t ed
at
one
-
half
the
issued
distance
in
the
Half
Scale
axis

axes

allowing
the

to
accept

filter

cooling

of
dust
and
foreign
part icles
entering

Plot t er

will

in
turn

life
of
the
com ponents
and
reduce
the
frequency
of
required
lubricat ion
.
The
fre
quency
of
cleaning
and
lubricat ion
will
vary
with
the
environm ent
in
which
it
is
used
,
but
annual
m ai ntenance
is
a
recom m ended
m ini m um

Cleaning
the
Air
Filter
The
cooling
fan
is
provided
to
circulat e
air
through
the
Plot t er
chassis
to
rem ove
heat
from
the
electrical
com
ponents
.
When
the
filter
becom es
clogged
with
ac
cum ulat ed
dirt
,
the
fan
cannot
properly
circulat e
air
,
and
the
air
which
is
circulat ed
is
m ore
likely
to
carry
dirt
which
can
contam inat e
the
lubricant
on
the
X
-
axis
shaft s

Therefore

the
filter
should
be
cleaned
yearly
at
a
m ini m um
