INSTALLATION
CAUTION
Telmoss device should not be used in an explosive environment (petrol
stations, refineries, fuel depots, chemical plants etc.) unless it is housed in
an approved explosion protection enclosure.
Telmoss device is to be positioned at least 20 cm from the human body
during it's operation.
Mounting the central unit
Telmoss device must be installed at the proper position where GSM signal coverage is
good enough. The unit can be mounted either on the wall or on the table. From the
security reasons, like other video surveillance systems, the main unit should be hidden
somewhere inside observed area in order not to be easily reachable nor visible.
Once the final position for central unit is defined, all cables (power adapter cable,
coaxial from cameras and wires from sensors) must reach appropriate connectors at
the unit (see Figure 3).
NOTE
Camera and sensor mounting procedures are out of the scope of this manual.

Telmoss user’s guide 9/42

Hardware installation steps
1. MOUNTING THE ANTENNA
Apply GSM antenna (Figure 1, pos 3) to the SMA connector (Figure 2, pos 1). Make
sure that antenna is fasten enough (turning it few times to right till reach the end of
the thread) in order to ensure good signal reception.
2. INSERTING THE SIM CARD
Insert the SIM card into the slot as shown on Figure 2, position 2.
NOTE:
• PIN request must be disabled on applied SIM card. For this purpose use standard
GSM mobile phone and disable this function. For details refer to mobile phone
user’s guide.
• applied SIM card must have so called Data/fax subscription number activated. This
number is dedicated for incoming data calls. For more information refer to your
network operator.
3. PLUG-IN THE CABLES
Plug-in coaxial cables (Figure 3, pos 6) from the cameras previously installed and
connect the wires from sensors (see more details in chapter Sensor port )
4. PLUG-IN POWER SUPLLY
Plug-in the power supply cable to the connector shown on Figure 3, position 5 and
power supply adapter to the mains socket (220V).
5. WATCH THE LED INDICATORS
If the power supply is connected properly, the boot sequences starts and after ca. 22
seconds Red Power Supply LED indicator (Figure 4, pos 7) will start to flash. This will
last ca. 30-35 seconds. In the mean time all 3 green GSM signal indicators (Figure 4
pos 8) will blink on/off few times, indicating the presence of GSM module.
Approximately 55 seconds after switching on, Red Power Supply LED indicator stops
flashing and must remain switched on permanently.
Those Camera LEDs are turned on, whose connectors are supplied with proper video
signal.
About ten seconds afterwards, the unit should be properly connected to the network
indicating the signal strength on 3 green LEDs. If those LEDs start to flash please wait
for few seconds (10-20). If this continues, it indicates the permanent problem with the
connection.
So, the device is properly installed if:
• RED Power Supply LED indicator is switched on
Telmoss user’s guide 10/42
2004. Telital mobitel d.o.o. All right reserved.
• at least 1 GREEN GSM signal indicator is switched on
• at least 1 RED Camera indicator is switched on
Now, if all listed steps are performed successfully, parameter set-up has to be done
using one of the client applications.
NOTE
If SIM card has not been inserted before switching on Telmoss device, the
system software will consider ONLY external devices connected to RS232
connector (Figure 3, pos 4) as the communication devices i.e. external
modem, direct cable connection to PC etc. All three GSM signal LEDs will
blink continuously. Communication will be possible only through this port
and no notification SMS will be sent.

Figure 19
2. parameters definition
•
Archive images
(yes/no) – in the case of alarm defines if images are stored
in the memory or not?
•
Video detection
(yes/no) – if yes, alarm will be produces if there are
enough changes between recorded images
•
Sensitivity threshold
(1-10) – main parameter for video detection
mechanism (1 – max. sensitivity, 10 – min.sensitivity)
•
Sensor detection
(yes/no) – if yes, alarm will be produced if there is a
sensor connected to Telmoss which generates the alarm signal. In the case
that no sensor is connected to the input connector, alarm will be generated
only once at the begining (always ON).
An alarm can be generated in 3 cases: video detection, sensor detection or both (the
first happens produces the alarm) depending on the settings.
IMPORTANT NOTES
In the case of alarm:
• images will be archived ONLY if “Archive images” parameter is set to Yes
• only in the period of 15 seconds after alarm is registered, the pictures are
being stored into the memory (ca. 10 images)
• next storing will be done after new event happens, which means that the
current must previously end
• user will be notified if SMS notification is set up properly and turned on (see
next chapter)
Telmoss user’s guide 24/42
2004. Telital mobitel d.o.o. All right reserved.
Setting SMS reception
If user wants to receive SMS messages about alarms following parameters must be set
up:
•
SMS reception
(yes/no) – enables/disables SMS sending to particular user.
User is determined by PIN code during the logging procedure.
•
Destination number
– must be in the form +cccaaannnn (e.g. for Croatia,
Vipnet network, number 123456 is +38591123456). This number defines
the destination phone number to which the SMS will be sent.
•
Video server title
– arbitrary title for video server that will be inserted into
SMS message to define the origin of alarm (e.g. name of the object
observed etc.)
•
SMS center number
- defined by particular network operator whose SIM
card is applied in particular Telmoss device.
Image recording and SMS sending procedures are sequentially performed:
alarm occurrence at Zone X -->
image archiving from Camera X (15 secs, if turned on) -->
SMS sending to all users who set “SMS reception” to Yes
Once the SMS is sent (for particular camera/zone), next SMS indication (for the same
camera/zone), will be sent:
• in the case of first, new alarm which occurs min. 60 minutes after last SMS
sending OR
• immediately when new alarm occurs BUT only if previously an user was
connected to Telmoss in the mean time.

selected. Following screen appears:
Figure 21
After “Yes” is pressed, few seconds are needed for the line to be disconnected and for
application to return to the main menu (off-line).
IMPORTANT NOTES
Most of Symbian OS phones have connection status icon drawn at the top-right corner
of the screen as follows:
As long as this icon is visible, the connection is in progress and normally all time spent
in this state is charged by network operator. If everything is ok with application
execution, after the hangup operation is performed, this icon MUST disappear! If it
remains, even if Telmoss mobile application is returned to off-line menu, user must
break the connection manually (e.g. pressing “end call” key, usually marked with
picture of red handset )
