I. IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS REGARDING THE RECOVERY AND RECYCLING OF
THIS ELECTRONIC DEVICE
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol below indicates that this electronic equipment is intended to be
disposed in a separate collection and not in an unsorted municipal waste, in order to provide for the
treatment of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) using best available recovery and recycling
techniques.
Specific treatment for WEEE is indispensable in order to avoid the dispersion of pollutants and other
hazardous substances into the waste stream, while recycling leads to reduction of disposal of waste and the
negative impacts on environment and human health. That is, priority is given to reuse of WEEE in its
components, subassemblies and consumables.
As the final holder, the user has an important role in contributing to reuse, recycling and other forms of
recovery of WEEE and is responsible to return this waste in the collection facilities set up by EC Member
Stases and to fulfill other duties in compliance with Directive 2002/96/EC and local laws.

1. OVERVIEW
The AC-16 device is a small remote alarm system for analog extension of PBX (with DTMF dial
tones) that doesn’t require an external power supply since it is self-powered from the telephone
line. It can be used to signal states of emergency in hospital rooms, hotel rooms, or service centers
with people who can get help by pressing a button available to them. AC-16 can also be used in
alarm/signalling systems in industrial/corporate environments. The device, which must be
connected in series to the internal telephone extension, is responsible to inform the staff that
identifies the source of the call from the internal phone number of origin (even in the case of
multiple devices installed in the same department). The cyclical report of the alarm status can be
done with a simple tone or with a standard voice message that can be customizable in factory to
customer specifications. The maximum length of the message is 16 seconds. During
customization, it is possible to split the message into two sections of a maximum of 8 seconds
each, playable separately or linked together. This feature is useful for example to play a message
in two different languages choosing during device programming the voice message in the desired
language.
2. CHARACTERISTICS
The main characteristics of AC-16 are:
•
Built into a standard telephone RJ11 socket (2 models)
•
Compatible with all models of PBX on the market
•
Wall mounting, replaces the normal telephone jack point for the downstream phone
•

5.2. Connection
Connect the cables as described. Connect the two pair of wires of the telephone line. Provide two
extra wires to connect external alarm button. If desired, provide two extra wires to connect an
external reset button.
•Connect the telephone line from the PBX to the LINE terminal
•Connect the two wires from the external alarm button to the ALARM terminal
•Connect the optional external reset button to the PROGRAM terminal
•The phone must be connected later on the plug outlet of AC-16 (AC-16 will be connected in
series between the existing line and the analog telephone, PHONE terminal is already
connected by the factory at the RJ11 outlet of AC-16)
•WARNING: Do not connect the telephone line to the ALARM or PROGRAM terminals. The
device can be irreversible damaged. The device is designed to operate with only one
analog phone connected downstream. It is possible to connect only dry contacts to the
ALARM and PROGRAM terminals (i.e. free from tension and references to other electrical
equipment)
AC-16R The screw terminals are accessible by removing the cover of the case

6. OPERATION
6.1. Idle condition
When the device is in idle condition, the connected phone appears to be operating on the
dedicated telephone line. The telephone can make and receive calls in transparent mode.
6.2. Alarm condition
When the alarm button is pressed, AC-16 provides to disconnect the downstream phone, to
terminate an existing call and to dial the preset number to handle the warning. This behavior
occurs only if AC-16 has been correctly connected in series between the line and the telephone.
AC-16 will play continuous short tones or the vocal message to be recognized by the called. AC-16
waits that the called closes the cycle of warnings with the programmed sequence of DTMF digits
(this means that the emergency alert has been received and the called don’t want to be further
informed by AC-16).
If warnings are not silenced after an emergency call, AC-16 will continue the attempts to notice.
The notice can be stopped only: introducing the code of silence (the code is 32), by pressing the
silencing button if properly connected, by pressing the reset button inside the device.
The duration of each warning that by default is set at 30 sec., is programmable between 30, 60, 90
or 120 seconds at the end of which, in the absence of an occurred silencing, AC-16 will generate a
new warning.
After silencing, AC-16 returns to idle condition.
In case of disconnection or unavailability of the telephone line for some occasional reason, AC-16
remembers the alarm condition and at the return of the availability or reconnection of telephone
line, the warning call will continue.

7. PROGRAMMING
7.1. Programming the number to contact for notice
To access to the AC-16 programming, from the idle state, press the external silencing button (if
connected) for a while or press the PROGRAM button inside the plastic case of the device. The
condition of the system ready for programming is signaled by the unique led on the card placed
inside the case. For all the time that the led stays on (15 seconds) the device can be called to his
number and AC-16 will answer to allow its programming.
The call must be made from another extension number, using a standard DTMF telephone. At the
response of AC-16 and after a beep is heard, introduce the code of the programming password
(pwd = *1235), wait for the confirmation beep and insert the phone number that must be
programmed. Once the number was inserted, press # to confirm and wait for another confirmation
beep. At this point it is possible to select the alarm notification mode by choosing: the digit "0" for
alarm notification with simple tone, the digit "1" for alarm notification with voice message 1, the digit
"2" for alarm notification with voice message 2, the digit "3" for alarm notification with voice
message 1+2 (concatenated). Wait for the confirmation beep. The memory space for voice
messages of 16 seconds is logically divided into two sections of 8 seconds each, where the first
section contains the message 1 and the second one contains the message 2.
Choose between the digits 0-1-2-3 the value for the desired time of alarm notification, 0=30”,
1=60”, 2=90”, 3=120” and hang up.
Example: - press the internal reset button (or external if connected), the led will light
- call the extension number where AC-16 is connected within 15 seconds
- heard a beep, enter * 1235 to access to the number programming
- heard the beep for confirm of entering programming, enter the number phone to
alert, press #to confirm and wait for the confirmation beep
- introduce now the digit "0" or "1" or "2" or "3" to program the desired alarm
notification mode (0=tone, 1=message 1, 2=message 2; 3=Message 1 +2, wait for
the confirmation beep
-introduce now the digit "0" or "1" or "2" or "3" to program
how long AC-16 will notify the alarm before hanging for time out
(0=30 seconds, 1=60 seconds, 2=90 seconds, 3=120 seconds).
- wait for the confirmation beep, AC-16 will close the call and will retain the
introduced parameters
It is possible to input the character * (star) in the number to call to get a dialing pause of 500
milliseconds for each * digit introduced.
The maximum field length of the number to call is fixed at 20 digits (including * digits).
If you get into programming and you do not make the introduction of a new number to call or do not
end with #the number introduced, it is like not having done any programming, and the old number
will remain in memory.
If, however, after confirming the entered number with the #character and heard the beep of
confirmation will not be introduced additional characters, there will be no change to the previous
programmed mode of how AC-16 will notify the alarm (tone or voice message).
Finally, if you also confirms how AC-16 will notify the alarm will not be introduced additional
characters, there will be no change to the previous programmed time alarm notification.
During programming, AC-16 waits 15 seconds from the last command received, then close the
communication breaking down the programming state.
