IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Thank you for purchasing the 250W Tesco
Grass Trimmer. For your safety, please
read this User Guide carefully, paying close
attention to the Safety Guide section. Keep
this User Guide with the Grass Trimmer.
Safety Instructions
Intended Use:
The Grass Trimmer is not intended for use
by persons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or
lack of experience and knowledge, unless they
have been given supervision or instruction
concerning use of the Grass Trimmer by a
person responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the Grass Trimmer.
The Grass Trimmer is designed for the cutting
of grass and weeds under bushes and on
slopes / edges that cannot be reached with
a lawnmower. It is intended for use in private
households and as a hobby device in the
garden. Any other utilisation, which is not
explicitly approved in these directions, can
lead to damage to the Grass Trimmer and
represent a serious danger to the user.
1) Training
• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar
with the controls and the correct use of
the Grass Trimmer.
• Never allow children to use the Grass
Trimmer.
• Never allow people unfamiliar with these
instructions to use the Grass Trimmer.
Local regulations may restrict the age of
the operator.
• Never operate the Grass Trimmer while
people, especially children, or pets are
nearby.
• The operator or user is responsible for
accidents or hazards occurring to other
people or their property.
2) Work Area
• Keep your work area tidy and well lit.
• Keep children and bystanders at least 5m
away while operating the Grass Trimmer.
• Ensure that the area being cut is free from
string, wire, cables, stone and debris.
3) Electrical Safety
• It is strongly recommended that mains
power be supplied to the Grass trimmer
through a Residual Current Device (RCD)
having a rated residual current rating not
exceeding 30mA.
• Do not modify the plug in any way.
• Do not touch earthed or grounded surfaces
such as pipes or radiators while using the
Grass Trimmer. There is an increased risk
of of electric shock if your body is earthed
or grounded.
• Do not expose the Grass Trimmer to water,
or use in wet conditions. Water in the
Grass Trimmer increases the risk of electric
shock.
• Only use an extension cable that is suitable
for outdoor use.
• Do not carry or pull the Grass Trimmer by
the power cable. Never pull on the power
cable to unplug the Grass Trimmer.
• Keep the power cable away from heat, oil,
sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged
or entangled power cables increase the
risk or electric shock.
• Before use check the power and extension
cable for signs of damage and ageing.
If the cord becomes damaged during
use, disconnect the cord from the supply
immediately. Do not touch the cable before
disconnecting the supply.
• Do not use the Grass Trimmer if the power
or extension cable is damaged or worn.
• If the power cable is damaged, it must be
replacedbysuitablyqualiedpersonnel.
4) Personal Safety
• Do not use the Grass Trimmer while you
aretiredorundertheinuenceofalcohol,
drugs or medication.
• Wear protective goggles, sturdy gloves,
dust mask and substantial, non-skid
footwear while operating the Grass
Trimmer.
• Wear suitable hearing protection such as
ear defenders or ear plugs when operating
the Grass Trimmer.
• Avoid accidental starting. Ensure that the
switch is in the Off position before plugging
in.
• Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery
that can be caught in moving parts. Keep
long hair away from any part of the Grass
Trimmer.
• Always ensure that any openings are clear
of debris.
5) Use and Care
• Do not force the Grass Trimmer, only use
for the intended application.
• Do not use the Grass Trimmer if the switch
does not turn it on and off.
• Disconnect the Grass Trimmer from
the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories or
storing.
• Store the Grass Trimmer out of reach of
children and persons unfamiliar with its
use.
• Check for misalignment or binding of
moving parts, breakage of parts and
any other condition that may affect the
operation of the Grass Trimmer.
6) Service
• Refer all servicing which involves the taking
or putting on of parts (other than those
specicallyreferredtointhismanual),toa
qualiedpersonorapprovedserviceagent.
7) Operation
• Avoid using the Grass Trimmer in bad
weather conditions especially when there is
risk of lightning.
• Only use the Grass Trimmer in daylight or
goodarticiallight.
• Before using the Grass Trimmer and after
any impact, check for signs of wear or
damage and repair as necessary.
• Never use replacement parts or
accessories not provided or recommended
by the manufacturer.
• Disconnect the Grass Trimmer from mains
before checking, cleaning or working on it
and when it is not in use.
• Never operate the Grass Trimmer when
youaretired,illorundertheinuenceof
alcohol, drugs or medicine.
• When the Grass Trimmer is in operation,
keep the cutting section away from all parts
of the body, especially hands and feet.
• Do not start the Grass Trimmer when it
is upside down or not in the operating
position.
• Switch the Grass Trimmer off and pull out
the plug when it is not being used, left
unattended, being cleaned, transported or
adjusted.
• If there is an interruption to the power
supply or the extension cable is damaged,
switch off the Grass Trimmer and remove
the plug from the power supply.
• Keep a balanced and stable stance
when using the Grass Trimmer. Do not
overreach.
• Do not cut against hard objects. This could
cause injury to the operator and damage
the Grass Trimmer.
• Never use the Grass Trimmer without a
guard or if the guard is damaged.

• Only use the original type of nylon line.
Under no circumstances use metal line
instead of nylon.
• Do not use the Grass Trimmer to cut grass
that is not on the ground. For example,
grass that is on walls or rocks.
• Before use check that all grass cuttings
and debris have been removed from the
ventilation vents.
• Do not cross roads or gravel paths when
the Grass Trimmer is running.
• After use disconnect the Grass Trimmer
from the power supply and check for
damage. Contact an authorised service
agent if you are in any doubt.
• Never hold or operate the Grass Trimmer
by the guard.
• Checkregularlythatthextures,ttings
and screws are tight.
• Walk, never run.
• The guard is vital for your and
other people’s safety and for the Grass
Trimmer’soperatingefciency.Donottryto
stop the cutting device (nylon line) with
your hands or feet. Always let it come to a
stop by itself.

continue to rotate after the motor is switch
off
4) Maintenance and Storage
• Replace worn or damaged parts.
• Use only genuine replacement parts and
accessories.
• Store the Grass Trimmer in a dry place.
• Refer all servicing which involves the taking
or putting on of parts (other than those
specicallyreferredtointhismanual),toa
qualiedpersonorapprovedserviceagent.
• Do not use harsh abrasives, or caustic
cleaners when cleaning the Grass Trimmer.
Electrical Information
Before use check that the voltage of your
electricity supply is the same as that shown on
the rating plate of the Grass Trimmer. In the
UK this is 230-240 volts.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must
bereplacedbyaqualiedpersonorapproved
service agent.
Warning: Keep extension cords away
from cutting elements.
The power cord is terminated with a UK
approvedmainsplugttedwitha5Afuse.If
the fuse needs to be replaced, an ASTA or BSI
approved BS1362 fuse rated at 5A must be
used.
If you change the mains plug, remove the
fuse and dispose of the old plug safely and
immediately after cutting it from the power
cord. The wires in the mains lead are coloured
in accordance with the code:
Blue: Neutral Brown: Live
If these colours do not correspond to the those
found in your plug, do as follows:
• The wire coloured BLUE or BLACK must
be connected to the terminal marked with
the letter N.
• The wire coloured BROWN or RED must
be connected to the terminal marked with
the letter L.

The 250W Grass Trimmer Introduction
This User Guide provides instructions on the correct assembly and safe use of the 250W Grass
Trimmer.
The 250W Grass Trimmer is designed for the cutting of grass and weeds under bushes and
on slopes / edges that cannot be reached with a lawn mower. It is intended for use in private
households and as a hobby device in the garden.
Assembly
Assembling the Body of the Grass Trimmer
1. Push the Upper Body Section into the Lower
BodySection(g.1)untilthe2setsofholesline
up.
2. Place the nut provided into the hexagonal
groove on the Main handle.
3. Push the locking screw through the circular
hole in the Main Handle and tighten until secure.

Fitting the Cutting Guard Cover
Beware of the sharp blade on the Cutting
Guard Cover.
1. Fit the Cutting Guard Cover to the Trimmer
Head so that the square hole on the Cutting
Guard Cover clips onto the notch on the Trimmer
Head(g.3).
2. Ensure that the screw hole on the Cutting
Guard Cover lines up with the hole on the
Trimmer Head.

Tips for Using the Grass Trimmer
• Always be aware of the position of the
power cable when using the Grass Trimmer.
Keep the Power Cable to your back and out
of the way of the cutting path. Take extra
care when changing direction.
Trimming Grass and Weeds
• Sweep the Grass Trimmer left and right.
Keep the cutting head level with the ground
(g.7).
• Cut small patches of grass and weeds. The
Grass Trimmer is not suitable for cutting
large areas.
• Where possible cut with the left-hand side of
the Grass Trimmer so that cuttings, dust and
stones are thrown forwards, away from the
user.
• Ideal working conditions will be achieved
when the Grass Trimmer is tilted at an angle
of 300.
Trimming Lawn Surfaces
• Hold the Grass Trimmer in front of you at an inclined angle of 300 with the Cutting Head level
with the ground.
• Guide the Grass Trimmer in a semi circular motion around your starting position.
• For a good cutting performance do not use on grass higher than 15 cm. Cut taller grass
down in gradual stages.

Cable Restraint
A cable restraint has been included to prevent
a cable snag from damaging the connections to
the Grass Trimmer.
Create a loop in the mains cable, feed it up
through the slot in the restraint and loop over
thehook(g.6).
Operating the Grass Trimmer
1. Ensure that the Grass Trimmer is connected
to the mains power supply. Firmly grip both
handles.
2. Stand upright and hold the Grass Trimmer
in a relaxed position away from your body. Do
not rest the cutting head on the ground. Hold it
above the grass.
3. To turn the Grass Trimmer On press the On/
Off switch while pressing the On/Off Trigger
(g.5).Forcontinuousoperationreleasethe
On/Off button and hold the On/Off trigger.
4. To turn the Grass Trimmer Off release the
On/Off trigger.

3. Insert the screw provided into the hole on
the Cutting Guard Cover and tighten using a
suitablescrewdriver.(g.4).

Care and Maintenance
Taking Care of the Grass Trimmer
• Always disconnect the plug from the power socket before carrying out any
cleaning or maintenance work on the Grass Trimmer.
• Never clean or splash the Grass Trimmer with water.
• Store the Grass Trimmer in a dry, frost free area, out of reach of children.
Carefully remove grass and debris by using a suitable brush or blunt scraping
tool.
• Clean the inside and outside of the protective cover after use and wipe with a
moist sponge.
• If the visible nylon cutting string is shorter than 2.5 cm, adjust and replace the
string.
Adjusting the Nylon Cutting Line
The nylon cutting line can wear or break preventing the Grass Trimmer from cutting.
1. To change the length of the nylon cutting line press and release the Grass Trimmer on the
ground or a solid surface while operating. This will cause the spool to release the line.
2. The Grass Trimmer has a blade that continuously cuts the line down to the appropriate
length.
Replacing the Nylon Line Spool
If the nylon cutting line is broken and the nylon
spool needs replacing:
1. Press the two release clips on the side of
the Line Spool cover and pull to remove, taking
carenottodislodgethespring(g.8).
2.Threadthenew/relledspoolthroughthetwo
eyeholes in the Trimmer Head.
3. Insert the nylon disc so that it sits on the
spring(g.9).
4. Line up the release clips of the spool cover
with the holes on the Trimmer Head and push
so that the spool cover clicks into position.
Maintenance
• Always keep the Grass Trimmer clean.
• Do not use caustic cleaning agents to clean the plastic housing.
• GettheGrassTrimmercheckedbyaqualiedpersonorapprovedservice
agent if an excessive amount of sparks are generated when in use.
• Do not allow water to come into contact with the Grass Trimmer.
