easy -t o-use st orage server t hat allow s a dedicat ed appr oach t o st oring and
dist ributing dat a on a net wor k. Dat a reliabilit y is en sured w it h RAI D feat ur es t hat
provide data securit y and recovery—over m ult iple Terabyt e of st orage ar e available
usin g RAI D 5 and RAI D 6. Gigabit Et her net p ort s en hance n et w or k efficiency ,
allowing Thecus I P st orage t o t ak e ov er file m an agem ent fun ct ions, incr ease
application and dat a sh aring and prov ide fast er dat a r esp onse. Th e Th ecus I P
st or age offers dat a m obilit y wit h a disk roam ing feat ure t hat lets you swap working
hard dr iv es for u se in ot her Th ecus I P st or age, securing the cont inuit y of dat a in t he
event of hardware failure. The Thecu s I P st or age allows data consolidation and
sharing bet w een Window s ( SMB/ CI FS) , UNI X/ Linu x, and Apple OS X environ m ent s.

Thecu s I P st or age support s m ult iple RAI D volum es on one sy st em . So, you can
cr eat e RAI D 0 for y our n on-crit ical dat a, and creat e RAI D 1,5, 6,5 0 or 6 0 ( depend
on m odel) for m ission-crit ical dat a. Creat e t he RAI D levels depending on your
needs.

iSCSI Ca pa bilit y
Thecu s I P st orage is not only a file server, but it also supports iSCSI initiators. Your
server can access Thecu s I P st orage as a dir ect -att ached-st or age ov er t h e LAN or
I nt er net . There is n o easier way t o expand t he capacit y of your current applicat ion
ser ver s. All t he st or age needs can be cent rally m an aged an d d eploy ed. This br ings
ult im at e flexibility to users.

Your Thecus I P st orage is designed for easy installat ion. To help you get st art ed,
the following chapter will help you quickly get your Thecu s I P st orage up and
running. Please read it carefully t o prevent dam aging your unit during installat ion.
Before You Begin
Befor e y ou b egin, be su re t o t ak e t h e f ollow in g pr ecau t ion s:
1. Read and underst and t he Sa fe t y W a r n in g s out lined in t he beginning of t he
m anual.
2. I f possible, w ear an anti-st at ic wrist st rap during installat ion t o prevent
st at ic discharge f rom dam aging t he sen sit iv e elect r onic com p onen t s on t he
Thecu s I P st or age.
3. Be car eful not t o u se m agn et ized scr ew dr iv er s around t he Thecus I P
st or age’s elect r onic com ponent s.
Cable Connections
To connect the Thecus I P st orage product t o your net work, follow t he st eps below:
1. Con nect an Et h ernet cab le fr om y our n et w ork t o t he WAN/ LAN1 port on t he
back pan el of t h e Thecu s I P st or age.

Chapter 3: First Time Setup
Overview
Once t he hardware is inst alled, physically connected t o your net work, and pow ered
on, you can configure t he Th ecus I P st orage so t h at it is accessible t o y ou r n et w or k
user s. Th ere ar e t w o w ay s t o set u p y our Thecus I P st orage: using t he Th e cus
Se t up W iz a rd or t he LCD display. Follow t he st eps below for initial software
set up.
Thecus Setup Wizard
The handy Thecus Set up Wizard m akes configuring Th ecu s I P st orage a snap. To
configure t he Th ecu s I P st or age using the Set up Wizard, perform t he following
st eps:
1. I nsert t he inst allat ion CD into y our CD-ROM drive ( the host PC m ust be
connect ed t o t he n et w or k) .
2. The Set up Wizard should launch aut om atically. I f not, please browse your
CD-ROM drive and double click on Se t up.ex e.
3. The Set up Wizard will st art and autom at ically det ect all Thecus st orage
devices on y our net w or k. I f none are found, please check y our connect ion
an d refer t o Cha pt e r 7: Trou ble sh oot in g for assist an ce.
4. Select t he Thecu s I P st or age t hat you like t o configure.
5. Login with the adm inist rat or account and passw ord. The default account
and password ar e both “ admin” .
N OTE
For MAC OS X u ser s, double click on Thecus Setup Wizard .dm g file.

7. Change the default adm inistrator password.

8. Finished! Access t h e Th ecus I P st or age Web Ad m inist rat or I n t er face by
pressing t he St a r t Br ow se r button. You can also configure another Thecus
I P st or ag e at t his point by clicking the Se t u p Ot her D e vice butt on. Press
Ex it to exit t he wizard.
OLED Operation

The N4800 Series is equipped with an OLED on t he front for easy st atus display and
set up. Ther e ar e four but tons on t he front panel t o control t he OLED functions.

USB Copy
The USB Copy function enables you t o copy files st ored on USB devices such as USB
disks and digit al cam eras t o the Th ecu s I P st or age by press USB copy but t on. To
use USB copy, follow t he st eps below :

1. Plug your USB device into an available USB port on the Rear Panel.
2. Pr ess t h e “USB Cop y Bu t t on ”.
3. The N2800 will st art copying USB disk s connect ed t o t he rear USB por t . Th e
LCD w ill display t he USB copy pr ogr ess an d r esult .
N 4 8 0 0 Series:
1. Plug your USB device int o an available USB port on t he Front end.
2. I n D isp la y M ode , press t h e D ow n Bu t t on (▼) .
3. The OLED will display “ USB Copy?”
4. Press En t e r ( ↵) and t he N4800 Series will st art copying USB disks
