1 PREFACE
1.1 DESCRIPTION OF THE USER
This document is intended for the end-user of the Portara
Automatic Gateway.
1.2 CONVENTIONS USED IN THIS MANUAL
The following style conventions are used in this
document:

1.3 EXPLANATION OF SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
DANGER!

serious injury.

2 DESCRIPTION OF THE PORTARA
2.1 INTENDED USE AND REASONABLY FORESEEABLE MISUSE
The Portara Automatic Gateway is intended to be used as
for closing off passages.
The Portara Automatic Gateway is not intended to be used
as a device to move objects. Only use the Portara within the
specified performing limits. The Portara must only be used
according to the instructions as described in this manual.
All use other than described in this manual is seen as
unintended use.
The Portara shall be used with original accessories and
components only.

3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING!
Read and understand this manual and its safety
instructions before using this product. Failure to do so
can result in serious injury or death.
3.1 HOW TO USE THE PRODUCT SAFELY
3.1.1 INTENDED USE
• The gateway shall only be used and installed for
applications as described by the manufacturer. All
other applications are unprofessional and considered
dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable
for damage resulting from errors, unintended or
unprofessional use of the device.
• This gateway is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with restricted physical, sensory
or intellectual capability or lack of experience and/or
knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person who
is responsible for their safety or provides them with
instructions on how to use the product.
• Children should be supervised in order to ensure that
they do not play with the gateway.
• Inform yourself properly with respect to the prescribed
safety devices on the basis of the EU directives on
operating safety for gates.
• If there is any visible damage, a strong odour or
excessive heating of components, disconnect the power
supply immediately and do not use the gateway.
3.1.2 USE
• Be vigilant at all times, and always be careful what you
are doing. Do not use the gateway if you are lacking in
concentration or awareness, or are under the influence
of drugs, alcohol or medication. Even a moment of
inattentiveness can lead to serious accidents and
injuries when using the gateway.
• The gateway contains moving parts! Always keep a safe
distance to prevent jamming.
• The gateway is not intended to be used as a device to
move objects. Do not stand on the gateway!
• Ensure that there are no people or objects in the range
of motion when you extend or retract the gateway.
Otherwise injury or damages may occur.

• Do not use the gateway after an earthquake. Keep
a safe distance from the gateway until the gateway
has been fully inspected by a qualified and trained
person.
• In case of an accident, stop using the product and
consult a doctor if necessary.
3.1.3 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
• All work with respect to cleaning and maintenance
shall only be carried out by qualified personnel.
To ensure the operational safety of the installation
regular maintenance should be carried out
by qualified personnel in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.
• Maintenance and inspection should be done on a
frequent basis. If there is any visible damage, a strong
odour or an excessive overheating of components
stop using the gateway.
3.1.4 REPAIR
• Do not attempt to modify or repair the gateway. This
will expire the warranty.
• Use only original accessories and spare parts.
• Alterations to the gateway and technical
modifications are not permitted.

4 OPERATION/ USE
WARNING!
Ensure that there are no people or objects in the range
of motion when you extend or retract the gateway.
Otherwise injury or damages may occur.
4.1 HOW TO OPEN/ CLOSE THE GATEWAY
4.1.1 MANUAL OPERATION
To manually operate the Portara:
1. Lock the gate leaf so that the Portara can be operated
manually. To lock:
A. Turn knob “D” to the left until it stops completely.
B. Turn the key to the left. Then remove the key and
slide the slot cover back up. The geared motor is now
locked and the gateway can be used normally again.
The key must be kept in a safe place when the
system is operating normally again.
2. Open or close the gate leaf.

WARNING!
To prevent emergency situations, keep hands and feet
away from moving parts, specifically from the slam
portal and the lower beam.
4.2 WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCY AND EXCEPTIONAL
SITUATIONS
4.1.2 REMOTE/ AUTOMATIC OPERATION
To operate the Portara remotely:
• Use the remote control to open or close the Portara
To safely unblock the Portara:
1. Stop the supply of electrical power.
2. In case of a battery, disconnect the battery.
3. To unlock the motor:
A. Slide down the lock cover “A” on the unlock button.
Then insert the key “B” into it and turn it clockwise by
180degrees.
The button is now free and can be adjusted.
B. Turn the knob “C” several times to the right until
it stops. The geared motor is now unlocked. The
gateway can now be moved manually.
CAUTION!
Do not turn the knob beyond the limit.

5.2 HOW TO CLEAN THE GATEWAY
To clean the gateway:
1. Spray the gateway with cold tap water to remove coarse dirt.
2. Apply a neutral non-abrasive cleaning agent (pH value of
between 6 and 8).
3. Allow the cleaning agent to work sufficiently in accordance
with the relevant product information.
4. Wipe the gateway with a soft and clean cloth.
5. Rinse the gateway thoroughly with tap water. Preferably, use
warm water with a temperature of approximately 40°C.
The gateway shall only be inspected by a qualified and
trained person.
WARNING!
Task
Make sure that the path of the sliding gate is free
from obstacles at all times.

The wireless safety system works with batteries. These must
be checked/ replaced at least once a year. This must be
performed by a qualified technician in combination with
settings and safety tests. If the batteries are empty, the
gateway will not work.
5.4 HOW TO REPLACE THE BATTERY SAFETY SYSTEM
To maintain the gateway:
• Consult the manufacturer
The gateway shall only be maintained by a qualified and
trained person.

6.1 HOW TO IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS

The symbol on the product, the accessories or packaging
indicates that this device must not be treated as unsorted
municipal waste, but must be collected separately! Dispose
of the device via a collection point for the recycling of
waste electrical and electronic equipment if you live
within the EU and in other European countries that
operate separate collection systems for waste electrical
and electronic equipment. By disposing of the device in
the proper manner, you help to avoid possible hazards for
the environment and public health that could otherwise
be caused by improper treatment of waste equipment.
The recycling of materials contributes to the conservation
of natural resources. Therefore do not dispose of your old
electrical and electronic equipment with the unsorted
municipal waste.
7.2 DISPOSAL OF PACKAGING WASTE
The packaging is made of environmentally friendly
materials, which may be disposed through your local
recycling facilities. By disposing of the packaging and
packaging waste in the proper manner, you help to avoid
possible hazards for the environment and public health. The
symbol on the packaging indicates that the packaging is
made of PAP.
7 DISPOSAL
7.1 DISPOSAL OF ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
7.2 DISPOSAL OF BATTERIES
The product contains a battery. Batteries may not be
disposed of with the usual domestic waste. They may
contain toxic heavy metals and are subject to hazard
our waste regulations. For this reason, dispose of used
rechargeable batteries at a local collection point.
