Inserting batteries in the remote control
• Do not mix different types of batteries or new and old
batteries. Do not use rechargeable batteries.
• In order to avoid any risk of explosion, observe the polarities
indicated inside the battery compartment. Replace only
with the type of batteries specified above. Do not dispose of
them in a fire or recharge them.
• If you are not using the remote control for a long period of
time, remove the batteries.
• Please respect the environment and prevailing regulations. Before you dispose of batteries
or accumulators, ask your dealer whether they are subject to special recycling and if they
will accept them for disposal.

Powering the player
by using the battery
Installing the battery
The battery has three plugs that must be engaged in the three holes situated under the DVD
player.
1. Lay the battery flat as indicated in the drawing
opposite.
2. Install the player over the battery while taking care
that the plugs on the battery engage into the holes
situated under the player.
3. Slide the player backwards until you hear it click into
place.
Removing the battery
To detach the player from the battery, press on the
arrowed button situated behind the battery, and then slide
the player forwards.
Note: Do not to leave the battery attached when the player is not in use as the battery will run down quite
quickly if it is left attached with the player in standby mode.

Charging the battery

battery.A red light comes on. It goes
green when the battery is charged.

Connections
Connection to a television set
To watch your DVDs on your television set, connect the player to the television set using the
audio/video cables provided.
Note: In order to see the images on your television set, do not forget to select the appropriate AV input on the
television set.
Connecting headphones
In order to connect headphones, use one of the two headphones sockets situated on the side of
the player.
Connecting another appliance
In order to see images coming from another appliance on the LCD screen of the DVD player,
connect the other appliance to the player using audio/video cables, and select that other
audio/video source by pressing the AV IN/OUT button of the remote control of the player.

The remote control
Navigating through menus
Use the direction buttons to navigate through the menus. Press the ENTER
button on the remote control to confirm any selection you make.
POWER To switch the appliance on and off.
MODE To access the player’s menu (1st press).
To access the options for the LCD screen (2nd
press).
DISPLAY To access the Status menu.
AV IN/OUT To select the devices connected to the
Audio/Video sockets of the DVD player.
Note:To access the functions associated with the numeric
buttons 1 to 8, press the SHIFT button first.
SLOW REV To start reverse slow motion during playback.
SLOW FWD To start forward slow motion during playback.
BOOKMARK To access the Bookmark function.
SEARCH To display the Info menu.
STEP REV To start backward playback image by image.
STEP FWD To start forward playback image by image.
RETURN To stop playback and return to the PBC menu
(VCD).
ANGLE To access the Camera angle function.
0-9 Number input.
SHIFT To access the functions associated with the
numeric buttons 1 to 8.
SUBTITLE To access the subtitle function.
MENU/PBC To access the disc menu during playback.
To activate the PBC menu of aVCD.
SETUP To access the player's menus.
TITLE To access the disc menu (if there is one).
AUDIO To access the Audio function.
MUTE To mute and restore the sound.
VOL-/VOL+ To adjust the sound volume.
A-B To define the sequence to be repeated in A-B
repeat mode.
REPEAT To access the Repeat playback function.

Regional coding
Your DVD player has been designed to process
regional management information that is
stored on DVD discs. DVD discs that have
different regional codes to that of your player
cannot be played.The regional code for your
player is 2 (Europe, the Middle East, South
Africa, Japan).ALL means all regions.When you
buy a disc check that it bears the correct logo.
Operating the DVD player
1. Place the player on a table or on a stable
surface.
2. Unlock the screen by pushing the switch
to the right, and raise the screen.
3. Press and hold the ON button of the
player for 3 seconds or press the POWER
button of the remote control to switch on
the player.
Using the menus
•Disc menu – The appearance and contents
of this menu vary according to the type of
disc you have inserted and are independent
of the player’s menus.When the disc is
playing, press the MENU/PBC button to
display and hide this menu.
•Info menu – While the disc is playing, press
the SHIFT button and then the SEARCH
button on the remote control to display
and hide the Info menu.
Note: A function is only available if it features on
the disc you have inserted. For instance, if you
select the Subtitles function from the Info menu
subtitles will only appear if subtitles have actually
been provided on the disc.
•Player’s menu – Press the SETUP button
to display this menu and hide this menu.
Playback
Switch the DVD player on.
1. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open
the disc compartment.
2. Put the disc in with the printed side
upwards (in the case of a single-sided disc).
3. Close the compartment.
•Play starts automatically, or
• the Disc menu appears. One of its options
can be selected to start playing the disc.
Select it and press ENTER,or else
•Press the button.
4. Press the button to stop playback.
Accelerated play
1. While the disc is playing, press the
or
button one or more times to vary the
speed and direction of the accelerated play.
2. Press to resume normal playback.
Still image
While the disc is playing, press once for
freeze frame. Press again to resume normal
playback.
Note: After 5 minutes in PAUSE with no user
interaction, the player goes into screen saver
mode. If the player is left in STOP mode for more
than 5 minutes without any user interaction, the
player switches off automatically.

Frame advance
1. While the disc is playing, press a number of
times the SHIFT and then STEP REV
buttons or the SHIFT and then STEP
FWD buttons to advance backward or
forward image by image.
2. Press to resume normal playback.
Press the SHIFT button to exit the
function.
Variable slow motion
1. While the disc is playing, press a number of
times the SHIFT and then SLOW REV
buttons or the SHIFT and then SLOW
FWD buttons to vary the speed and
direction of the slow motion.
Note: Reverse slow motion is not possible with a
VCD.
2. Press to resume normal playback.
Press the SHIFT button to exit the
function.
Changing chapter/track
While the disc is playing, press the or
button to go immediately to the previous or
next chapter, or to the previous or next track.
You can also enter directly the chapter or
track number using the numeric buttons.
Zoom
1. While a disc is playing, press the ZOOM
button until you reach the zoom size you
require.
2. Move from one area to another using the
,, and buttons.
3. To resume normal playback press ZOOM
repeatedly.
Note:The zoom function may not work on some
discs.
Status menu
Press the DISPLAY button a number of times
during playback to show in turn:
DVD:Title elapsed time,Title remaining time,
Chapter elapsed time, Chapter remaining time,
Display Off.
VCD,SVCD and audio CD:Single elapsed
time, Single remaining time,Total elapsed time,
Total remaining time, Display Off.
PBC - PlayBack Control (VCD)
The PlayBack Control function offers scenes
and information which can be selected
interactively via a menu. It can also be used to
display high-resolution pictures, if the disc
contains any.
Press the MENU/PBC button to activate and
deactivate the PBC function.
Note:This option may not be available on all
VCDs.

Play modes
Repeat playback
While the disc is playing, press the REPEAT
button repeatedly to select a play mode:
DVD:Chapter repeat,Title repeat,All, Off,
VCD,SVCD and audio CD:Track repeat,All,
Off.
Note: On a VCD with PBC (Playback Control),
press the MENU/PBC button to deactivate the
PBC function.
A-B repeat (DVD,VCD and SVCD)
To repeat a sequence between two points A
and B, press the A-B button at the beginning of
the sequence you want to repeat.Then press
the A-B button again at the end of the
sequence.Then the sequence is played
repeatedly until you press A-B to resume
normal playback.
Random playback (mp3 and audio CD)
You can play all the tracks on the disc in a
random order (chosen by the player).
Press the RANDOM button to start random
playback. Press the button to resume
normal playback.
Note: On a VCD with PBC (Playback Control),
press the MENU/PBC button to deactivate the
PBC function.
Programme playback
With this option, you choose and programme
the playback order.
1. Insert a disc.
2. Press the PROG button to enter the
Programme playback mode.
Note: On a VCD with PBC (Playback Control),
press the MENU/PBC button to deactivate the
PBC function.
3. Enter the title and then chapter number
(DVD) or the track number (audio CD and
VCD) using the numeric buttons. Repeat
this step to add other tracks to the
playback list.
4. Select Start using the , , and
buttons and press ENTER to start
playback.
Tracks are played in the order of the
playback list. Playback stops once all tracks
have been played.
5. To remove a track from the playback list,
select the track using the and
buttons and press the CLEAR button.
Note:The playback list is erased when the disc is
removed from the player.
Bookmarks
The player can store up to 12 disc locations as
long as the disc remains in the player and the
unit remains switched on.
1. Press the SHIFT button and then the
BOOKMARK button during playback.A
menu appears.
2. To create a bookmark, select an unused
bookmark using the , , and
buttons, and then press the ENTER
button. Repeat this step as often as
necessary.
3. To start playback from a bookmark, press
the SHIFT button, and then the
BOOKMARK button. Select the
bookmark using the , , and
buttons and then press ENTER.
4. To delete a bookmark, press the SHIFT
button, and then the BOOKMARK
button. Select the bookmark using the ,
,and buttons and then press the
CLEAR button.
To exit the Bookmark function, press the
BOOKMARK button and then the SHIFT
button again to exit the function.

Using the Info menu
You can display information about the disc during playback using the Info menu. It will also allow
you to access certain functions.
To display the menu, press to start playback and then press the SHIFT and then the SEARCH
button on the remote control.
Select an option using the and buttons and press ENTER to modify the setting : use the
and buttons on the remote control to scroll through the options, the numeric buttons to enter
numbers and the ENTER button to confirm a setting.
Press the SEARCH button to exit the Info menu, and then the SHIFT button to exit the function.
This symbol indicates that the function selected or the button used is not available at this stage.

To directly access a title or a chapter :
1. Select Title or Chapter using the and buttons and press ENTER.
2. Enter a title or chapter number using the numeric buttons.
Note: Many discs only have one title.
Audio
Some discs have several audio tracks used for different languages.
To change the language during playback:
1. Select Audio with the and buttons and press the ENTER button.
2. Choose a language with the and buttons.
Notes:
You can also change the dialogue language during playback pressing a number of
times the AUDIO button on the remote control.
This option is only available if the disc offers a number of dialogue languages.
When you change the dialogue language using the Info menu, your choice of
language is only applicable to the disc being played.When you eject the disc or switch
off the player, the dialogue language will revert to the one you selected in the
Preferences menu (see page 18).
Subtitles
Subtitles are disabled by default.To enable the subtitle function while the disc
is playing:
