1.Area of application
The rugged XCRiPadMini is an intrinsically safe and impact-resistant tablet PC that is designed for
industrial use in potentially explosive areas classified as Zone 2 in accordance with directive 94/9/
EC.
2. Safety precautions
These safety instructions contain information and safety regulations that must be observed to
ensure safe operation under the described conditions. Failure to follow these instructions and this
information can have serious consequences or constitute a violation of the applicable regulations.
Please read through these safety instructions carefully before starting to use the device! In the
event of conflicting information the safety instructions shall take precedence. In the event of any
doubt (unclear translation or printing errors), please refer to the English language version.
3. Faults and damage
If there are grounds for you to believe that the safety of the device has been impaired, stop using
it and remove it from the hazardous area immediately. Measures should be taken to prevent the
device from being used again accidentally.
The safety of the device may be impaired under the following circumstances:
-The housing is visibly damaged.
-The device has been exposed to excessive loads.
-The seal is damaged or has been removed.
-The device has not been stored properly.
-The device has been damaged in transit.
-The marking or labeling on the device is illegible or non-existent.
- Malfunctions occur.
-The permitted limit values have been exceeded.
4. Safety regulations
By using the XCRiPadMini it is assumed that the user has observed the generally applicable safety
regulations and that he/she has read the EC Declaration of Conformity to prevent any incorrect
use of the device.
The following must be observed without fail:
- It is prohibited to use a display foil (i.e LCD protection film).
-The iPad should not be removed from the rubber casing.A broken seal indicates that the intrinsic
safety of the device is no longer guaranteed.
-The specially designed nylon case should not be removed in the Ex-area.
-The iPad should not be charged in the Ex-area.
- It must be ensured that the device is not taken into, or used in, hazardous areas classified as zone
0, 1 or 20, 21, 22.
Failure to observe these safety instructions will result in expiration of the C1D2 / ATEX Zone 2
intrinsic safety rating.

7. Repairs
Repairs should only be carried out by ecom instruments GmbH, or by specialist companies and
service centres authorised to do so by ecom instruments GmbH, as the safety of the device needs
to be checked after the repair.
In case of repair a fixed display foil will be removed, disposed of and will not be replaced.
The repair request form can be downloaded under the Service section at www.ecom-ex.com.
Exception:
If the original device needs to be repaired by Apple Inc., remove the casing and send the device to
the original manufacturer. If you intend to use the device again in an ATEX Zone 2 area, send the
device and the protective housing, together with the nylon case, to ecom instruments GmbH so
that unrestricted use can be ensured for the respective area.

8. Cleaning, maintenance and storage
- Only use a suitable cloth or sponge to clean the iPad. Do not use any solvents, cleaning agents
or scouring agents when cleaning.
9. Disposal
Old electrical and electronic devices from ecom instruments GmbH are supplied for disposal at
our expense and disposed of free of charge in accordance with European Directive 2002/96/EC
and the German electrical law of 16.03.2005.The costs associated with returning devices to ecom
instruments GmbH are to be borne by the sender.To dispose of the original Apple iPad, please
follow the safety regulations supplied by the original manufacturer.
10.Warranty and liability
In accordance with our general terms and conditions, ecom instruments GmbH shall provide a
warranty for the material used for a period of two years under the specified and permitted ope-
rating and maintenance conditions.
This warranty does not cover products/materials which have been supplied to ecom instruments
GmbH (in particular the original Apple iPad).The same applies to devices that have been exposed
to abnormal operating conditions or used improperly.
Any claims under the warranty can be invoked by returning the defective product to the manufac-
turer. We reserve the right to repair, alter or exchange the device.The aforementioned warranty
conditions are the sole and only right of the purchaser to compensation, are exclusively valid and
replace all other contract or legal warranty obligations. ecom instruments GmbH assumes no lia-
bility for special, direct, indirect, accompanying or consequential damage as well as losses including
the loss of data, independent of whether it was caused by violation of the warranty obligation,
lawful or unlawful action, action in good faith or any other action.
If the limitation of a legal warranty as well as the exclusion or limitation of accompanying or con-
sequential damage is not permissible in certain countries, it may be that the aforementioned limi-
tations and exclusions are not valid for every purchaser. Should any such clause of these warranty
conditions be declared ineffective or unenforceable by a competent court, then the effectiveness
or enforceability of any of the other conditions of these warranty conditions shall remain unaffec-
ted by such a judgment.
These safety instructions are approved by the manufacturer XCIEL who is responsible for the
content.
