(Figure2),whichmeansCaution,Warning,or
Danger—personalsafetyinstruction.Failureto
complywiththeinstructionmayresultinpersonal
injuryordeath.
SafeOperatingPractices
Training
•ReadtheOperator'sManualandothertraining
material.Iftheoperator(s)ormechanic(s)cannot
readthemanualitistheowner'sresponsibilityto
explainthismaterialtothem.
•Becomefamiliarwiththesafeoperationofthe
equipment,operatorcontrols,andsafetysigns.
•Alloperatorsandmechanicsshouldbetrained.
Theownerisresponsiblefortrainingtheusers.
•Neverletchildrenoruntrainedpeopleoperateor
servicetheequipment.Localregulationsmay
restricttheageoftheoperator.
•Theowner/usercanpreventandisresponsible
foraccidentsorinjuriesoccurringtopeopleor
property.
Preparation
•Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyand
safelyperformthejob.Useonlyaccessoriesand
attachmentsapprovedbythemanufacturer.
•Wearappropriateclothingincludingsubstantial,
slip-resistantfootwear,safetyglasses,andhearing
protection.Tiebacklonghair.Donotwearjewelry.
•Inspecttheareawhereyouwillusetheequipment
andremoveallobjectsthatcouldbethrownbythe
machine,suchasrocks,toys,andwire.
•Checkthatoperatorpresencecontrols,safety
switches,andguardsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperatethemachineunlessthey
arefunctioningproperly.
Operation
•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspace
wheredangerouscarbonmonoxideandother
exhaustgassescancollect.
•Operatethemachineonlyingoodlight,keeping
awayfromholesandhiddenhazards.
•Besurealldrivesareinneutralandtheparking
brakeisengagedbeforethestartingengine.Start
theengineonlyfromtheoperator'sposition.
•Slowdownanduseextracareonhillsides.Turf
conditionscanaffectthemachine'sstability.Use
cautionwhileoperatingneardrop-offs.
•Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturns
andwhenchangingdirectionsonslopes.
•Neveroperatewithoutguardssecurelyinplace.
Besureallinterlocksareattached,adjusted,and
functioningproperly.
•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor
overspeedtheengine.
•Stopthemachineonlevelground,lowerthe
cuttingunits,disengagethedrives,engagethe
parkingbrake,andshutofftheenginebefore
leavingtheoperator'spositionforanyreason,
includingemptyingthegrassbaskets.
•Stopandinspectthemachineafterstriking
objectsorifanabnormalvibrationoccurs.Make
necessaryrepairsbeforeresumingoperations.
•Keephandsandfeetawayfromthecuttingunits.
•Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobe
sureofaclearpath.
•Nevercarrypassengersandkeeppetsand
bystandersaway.
•Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturns
andcrossingroadsandsidewalks.Stopthereels
ifnotmowing.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhentired,ill,or
undertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs.
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.If
lightningisseenorthunderisheardinthearea,do
notoperatethemachine;seekshelter.
•Usecarewhenloadingorunloadingthemachine
intoatrailerortruck.
•Usecarewhenapproachingblindcorners,shrubs,
trees,orotherobjectsthatmayobscurevision.
RolloverProtectionSystem
(ROPS)—UseandMaintenance
•TheROPSisanintegralandeffectivesafety
device.Usetheseatbeltwhenoperatingthe
machine.
•Ensurethatyoucanreleasetheseatbeltquickly
intheeventofanemergency.
•Checkcarefullyforoverheadclearances(i.e.
branches,doorways,electricalwires)before
drivingunderanyobjectsanddonotcontactthem.
